Chapter 1 - Prologue: Don't fear the Reaper. But don't mock him either.

"You Died." Proclaimed the ethereal voice coming out of the ball of darkness in front of me.

I looked down at my body, which was currently penetrated by three machetes, and looked back up.

"No shit. How'd you know? And what the fuck are you? A Dark Souls death screen here to state the obvious?" I asked.

Was I coming off as an asshole?

Sure I was. But I'd just been stabbed by three hobos looking to rob me of my rent money to buy crack or fent. So my social graces weren't as good as it usually was. Which actually wasn't a high bar to cross.

How the hell they even gotten those machetes? They had looked brand new. Was it possible that some maniac was going around handing out free machetes to hobos?

What am I saying? This is America. Of course its possible.

"You seem to be talking a lot of shit for someone in smiting distance. Want to rephrase that in a politer way?" Asked the voice.

"I'm dead dumbass, what are you going to smite? My rotting corpse? And who the hell are you anyway? Where am I?" I asked angrily.

"I'm the guy who's going to decide what happens to your shitstained soul in the afterlife dumbass. Whether you go somewhere pleasant or interesting is decided by me. And right now? You're looking at a very interesting afterlife asshole."

"Oh!" I replied, dumbly.

"Oh! Indeed. You know I was just gonna inform you about how you had managed to escape hell with your barely eligible amount of good deeds and then provide you with a list of options for the afterlife. A power fantasy in your choice of fictional world, reunion with your deceased loved one, the standard heaven package with angels and the pearly gates, the list goes on."

The orb of darkness got closer to me and I tried to take a step back only to discover that I could not move. The orb got close to my face and the voice resumed speaking.

"But you just had to open your mouth and talk some shit. So guess what? You just volunteered to be part of something special I've been working on. You see the guys who pass through here take the most busted powers possible to go to their isekai afterlife adventures and they turn boring really quick. There's no adventure, no risk and specially no gambling. And boy do I like gambling."

"And what is this thing that I've been volunteered to do?" I asked trying to keep my voice steady.

The ball moved away from my face and the voice answered in a sly tone.

"Well, why tell you when I can show you."

And with that the ball rushed forward again and went through my chest.

Pain surged through me and I wondered how I could feel pain when I was dead before my consciousness faded.

(AN: The next section contains information about the Chaos Gacha and how it works, for readers already aware of this feel free to skip to chapter 1.)

My consciousness returned when I felt my thoughts get bombarded my information.

Information about a system designed by the asshole I'd just met called the Chaos Gacha.

Chaos Gacha is a randomized "gacha" system designed for isekai, self-insert (SI), or power fantasy stories with you as the protagonist.

It draws from a massive database of over 1,900 entries (totaling ~80,000 words) pulled from countless fictional universes—think powers from anime, games, comics, books, and more—to generate chaotic, unpredictable rewards for characters. This adds excitement and risk to isekai, self-insert (SI), or power fantasy stories, where protagonists "roll" for abilities, items, or companions that can make them godlike... or hilariously doomed. LOL

How It Works

You can earn tickets through "feats" (impressive actions scaled to their power level, like slaying a god for high-rarity pulls). Each ticket specifies:

Prefix (e.g., "Advantage" for multiple rolls, pick the best). Rarity (determines the quality pool). Category (or "Random" for 1-in-5 chance per category).

One ticket = one roll.

The Chaos Gacha system features several distinct categories that determine the type of reward you receive on a pull. These categories define the pool from which the random entry is drawn.

Abilities — These are active or passive supernatural powers that typically occupy ability slots and often require energy, focus, or some other resource to use or maintain. They can range from simple enhancements (like boosting strength or shooting fire) to complex reality-warping effects, and they are often further classified in sub-types like Enhancer, Emitter, or Tinker-style powers in some implementations.

Items — These cover physical or magical objects, gear, weapons, consumables, tools, or artifacts. Examples include weapons with special properties, potions, trinkets with cooldowns or restock timers, or utility devices that provide ongoing benefits or one-time effects.

Traits — These are permanent or toggleable passive modifiers that alter your character in fundamental ways. They do not usually consume slots like abilities do, and they can include things like stat boosts, resistances, curses, race/species changes (which might permanently transform you into a new form with an option to toggle), personality quirks, or other inherent characteristics.

Skills — These represent learned or downloaded knowledge and proficiencies. They grant expertise in fields like combat styles, crafting, magic, performance, languages, or other disciplines, often scaled by mastery level (e.g., basic familiarity up to centuries-equivalent divine-level mastery).

Familiars — These are loyal companion creatures, summons, or beings that fight alongside you or provide support. They can be animals, monsters, spirits, intelligent entities, or mystical beasts, often with their own abilities, personalities, and growth potential. Random — This category acts as a wildcard. When you pull a Random ticket, it has an equal chance (typically around 1 in 5 or 20%) to draw from any of the other five categories above, making it unpredictable.

Regarding ranks (also called rarities or tiers), every pull result is assigned a rarity score (internally often a floating-point value from roughly 0.1 to 9.9), which determines its overall power, uniqueness, and impressiveness. These rarities are usually grouped into named tiers that correspond to ticket types (like Bronze for low-end pulls or Diamond for high-end ones). Higher rarities mean stronger, more broken, or more exotic rewards, while lower ones tend to be mundane or underwhelming.

The tiers generally progress like this, from weakest to strongest:

Trash or Common — The lowest tier, delivering very basic, everyday, or minimally useful results (think ordinary objects or weak minor perks).

Uncommon or Rare — Slightly better than baseline, providing noticeable but still modest advantages (decent gear, useful but limited powers, or solid foundational skills).

Elite or Epic — Solid mid-to-high power level, where things start getting exciting and impactful (strong abilities, rare items with good utility, or powerful traits that meaningfully change how you operate).

Legendary or Mythical — Very strong and often game-changing rewards that stand out even among peers (exceptional powers, legendary artifacts, or familiars with serious combat potential).

Divine, Transcendent, or similar top tiers — The absolute peak, frequently god-like, reality-bending, or outright broken in scope (world-altering abilities, ultimate weapons, immortal-level traits, or familiars on par with deities or cosmic entities).
