Pierre van Flanders appeared to be around thirty-five or thirty-six years old. He had the dark hair and Mediterranean features common in the southern regions of the continent, though his face showed more signs of aging than his actual age might suggest. Deep lines had formed beside his nose, making him look as though he had spent years worrying about things beyond his control. His clothes were clean and neatly arranged, but the fabric was ordinary, and his shoes were of noticeably poor quality. Clearly, his family had noble blood but little money to support the status that came with it.
Nevertheless, Lina didn't find him particularly unpleasant to look at. His mannerisms were restrained, and despite his current poverty, he didn't carry himself like a vulgar opportunist. The way he spoke and conducted himself suggested that he had received a reasonable education, even if life had never given him many opportunities to put it to use.
