Chapter 6 - Ugly Trap

Why does Yujin feel dread every time he even tries to think about bringing the thief up?

"Okay, I love you so much." Mr. Gigi gushes into the receiver of his phone. There's a pause. "No, I do. I love you most."

Yujin rolls his eyes and even Xavier huffs. Are they a new couple who is still in their honeymoon phase? Or is he really just like this all the time? Talk about clingy, Yujin shudders.

"No, I do." Another pause, "I love you more than anything in this -"

"Oh my gods, just hang up already." Yujin snaps. This torture interrogation thing is turning out to be more of a romance than anything with the way he smothers his 'pookie'.

There's a moment of silence and then a beep.

"She hung up on me." Mr. Gigi murmurs. He turns and glares at Yujin, his hand squeezing his phone so hard he swears he hears a crack in the screen. "You made my pookie hang up on me." He sniffs, his eyes turning red.

Is he . . . Yujin squints up at him, is he going to cry?

"Oh, I bet she's mad at me now, too." Mr. Gigi sniffles, and stomps up to him. He leans down, grabs the back of Yujin's chair and hoists it up so he's sitting properly. "Didn't I tell you to keep your ugly trap shut?!"

His face is red now as he huffs and glares down at him. Yujin cringes back into the seat, expecting another hit to the face.

The door to the room opens, forcing Mr. Gigi's hand to pause midway. Yujin peaks through his dark lashes and sighs in relief, silently thanking the esper that entered. At this rate, his swelling will never go down.

The other man whispers into Mr. Gigi's ear, all the while he glares at Yujin.

"Oh really?" Mr. Gigi frowns as the messenger pulls back. "How convenient. You may go, thank you, Miguel." Miguel nods and leaves the room, all the while avoiding getting too close to the draeven still perched on the floor.

Xavier doesn't acknowledge him, as if he's not even in the room.

"The camera at the facility malfunctioned." Mr. Gigi continues, holding his hands behind his back as he taps a black shoed foot. "You wouldn't happen to know about that, would you?"

Yujin furrows his eyebrows, wait, what did he say? The camera at the facility malfunctioned?

There were cameras!? Wow, if it had been working he would've been totally screwed. Not that he isn't screwed now, but he would've been screwed way before the other thief had appeared.

Does that mean the bastard disabled them?

Before anything else can happen, Miguel comes back in and whispers once more.

"Lots of secrets around here, huh?" Yujin mumbles half heartedly, the taste of copper still lingering in his mouth.

"And daddy is here to the rescue." Mr. Gigi mutters bitterly. Miguel steps out of the room, and the older man glowers at him before turning his angry stare on Yujin. "Let's see how easy you'll get off because the High Lord is also here."

Yujin's face pales. The High Lord himself is here?

Damn, he groans and drops his head, his black bangs shielding the majority of his face. How is he going to explain this? All he has to do is mention the other thief that showed up, but every time he opens his mouth something stops the words from coming out.

Did he have a skill that forces his silence about him? Is there even such a skill? Or maybe it's an item? He's never heard of one though. . .

Gah! Maybe he can plead his way out of this?

"I'll talk to him alone thank you." There's a familiar voice out in the hall and Yujin shrinks into his chair. There are two figures in the hallway, yet he already knows who they are.

However, when Mr. Guan steps out, only one of them steps inside. An older man with black hair styled back takes the seat opposite him. He places his hands palm down on the table and narrows his matching purple eyes at him.

He looks tired, and maybe it's Yujin's fault that he's here when he should be at work. His garments are formal, with a maroon long coat over his dress shirt, and a pendant of the High Lord's emblem stitched to the center of his collar.

"Yujin, why am I here?" He asks, his mouth pressing firmly together. He can see that familiar vein in his forehead that only pops out when he's stressed or pissed off.

Yujin clenches his jaw and forces a nonchalant smile, "Hi, dad." He can see his father's eyebrows twitch but doesn't stop trying the innocent act. "That Mr. Gigi man hit me." He tilts his head to show the evidence, his dark hair falling away from his face. The corner of his lip leaks red, blood slightly dry along his chin, and the side of his face swollen and discolored.

Versance pinches the bridge of his nose, "Drop the puppy eyes, Yujin. Answer my question."

The younger man huffs out in annoyance as he presses his head to the table between them. Damn it.

Yujin lifts his head up and the sweetness that once oozed from his every pore is replaced with regret and annoyance. Annoyance because he failed to get the item and for getting caught. If he had just left when he had them none of this would have happened. And regret, because now he has to answer to his father, and the High Lord. Ugh.

"I notice mother isn't here." Yujin says instead. "How expected of her." The words sting even coming from himself. He shouldn't be disappointed, it's not like she'll ever be more concerned for her son rather than her work.

Versance doesn't say anything at first. He links his hands together over the table and sighs, his shoulders dropping. "You know your mother is busy." He says with a sound of frustration. He leans back and runs a hand through his hair. "Lessons are about to start. It's your first year too, you should be more understanding." He cocks an eyebrow at him.
