Sharath wanted to know whether Dakota was resting enough, whether she was eating properly, and how she was managing with both children around her.
Dakota answered honestly, admitting that she was still tired but feeling better now that Cooper was recovering and the family had settled into a more comfortable routine.
She also asked after the others, and Sharath filled her in on how everyone was doing in Nightfall. They exchanged news about the household, discussed a few ordinary family matters, and laughed over some of the things that had happened.
For a little while, Dakota found herself enjoying the familiarity of the conversation without thinking about the troubles that still awaited them.
Eventually, Sharath's tone brightened again.
"Actually, there's someone here who has been asking about Takoda. She's been missing her terribly."
Dakota glanced at her daughter. "Who is it?"
"Lily, of course. She's been asking when she'll get to speak to Takoda again."
