The taxi continued along the deserted road for another few minutes before the driver checked the rearview mirror. Maya remained motionless in the back seat, her breathing steady. He watched her for a moment, then reached for the phone resting beside him and made a call.
The recipient answered almost immediately.
"She's unconscious," the driver reported. "We've left the main road. I'm waiting for your instructions."
Ryker's voice came through the phone, calm and decisive.
"Change direction. Take her to the designated location. Don't return to the city, and don't let anyone see her."
"Understood."
The driver ended the call and turned onto a narrower road leading deeper into the countryside.
The taxi had never been an ordinary taxi.
Ryker's men had positioned it along the road near Ashbourne Estate at precisely the right time, knowing Maya would need transportation once the threatening message pushed her to leave.
