Kade had expected to find the person responsible for Cooper's suffering. He had not expected both of Dakota's parents to react to the test.
His expression hardened as the implications settled over him.
Outside the window, Victor and the others had watched the scene unfold. They could not hear every word, but they saw Richard and Luna convulse in their chairs, and the shock on their faces was unmistakable.
"What did he do to them?" Ronan murmured asking as his eyes watched intently.
Victor did not answer. His gaze remained fixed on Kade, who was now standing before the family with the needles in his hand.
Inside, Kade turned toward Maya.
She stared at him with wide eyes, her face pale.
"No," she whispered. "I didn't do anything."
Kade applied the next needle and Maya went rigid, her eyes widening further as she waited for the reaction she had seen in her parents. But nothing happened. She did not convulse, foam at the mouth, or lose control of her body.
