Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Three Dark

Chapter 29: The Three Dark

They were introduced as best friends.

However, Jennifer's guard against Heather was not like that of a best friend. If she weren't nervous about being alone, she wouldn't have called this woman over.

That's right, Jennifer's possessiveness was that strong, even though the two had barely started dating.

Facts proved Jennifer's precautions were reasonable.

Danny's looks and this estate spanning several hundred acres held a fatal attraction for any woman.

Heather looked at the male owner of this mansion, indeed harboring some interest.

Jennifer asked, "Babe, do you have any plans for Halloween?"

Danny pondered for a moment. He clearly had his own plans.

"I plan to go back near campus to celebrate Halloween."

"Can't we celebrate at the manor?" Jennifer had fallen in love with it the first day she arrived—a private estate, staff, a manager. God knew how much she wanted to be the lady of the house and be with Danny.

"It'll be livelier back there. The manor is too quiet, isn't it?"

Danny's idea was to occasionally return here to stay. He liked lively places.

Jennifer tilted her head, "Another party?"

Danny touched her cheek and said,

"What are you thinking? It's no fun staying home."

After speaking, he looked at Heather and asked, "Do you want to come? It'll be livelier with more people."

"Can I?" Heather glanced at Jennifer, her tone somewhat uncertain.

Although Jennifer was displeased, she wouldn't show it in front of Danny, so she acted gracefully.

"Of course you can! It's more fun with more people, isn't it, babe?"

Danny patted her, "Yes, yes, yes. Come down first, you're acting like a kid."

Jennifer pouted her full lips.

"No, I want a kiss..."

Heather could guarantee Jennifer was absolutely being deliberate, asserting dominance in front of her.

She clearly didn't have those intentions.

Alright, she had a little curiosity, but she was just interested in what kind of person Danny was. She wouldn't go as far as to steal her friend's boyfriend.

Halloween Eve quickly arrived.

Danny, Jennifer, and Heather returned to his house near campus, each calling a few friends to enjoy the two-day holiday.

Danny had specially prepared a lot of candy today.

This preparation was very necessary.

Before it was even dark, kids started knocking on doors, saying,

"Trick or treat!"

Danny patiently gave out candy, but Jennifer found these children truly annoying.

"Knock, knock, knock."

Another knock on the door.

Danny went to open it, expecting children, but instead, it was a man with his daughter, holding a small gift basket.

"Hey, hello, I'm David, and this is my daughter Emma. We just moved in and wanted to meet the neighbors. This is a little something we prepared."

"Hello, I'm Danny. Thank you for the gift, Mr. David."

Danny grabbed a handful of beautifully wrapped candies and gave them to the little girl Emma, considering it a welcome gift and a return gesture.

Emma acted very "surprised," but Danny could tell this carefully composed little girl was faking it.

He really didn't expect the new neighbor to be Emma.

Emma, the little girl with innate sociopathic tendencies from The Bad Seed.

Danny remembered Emma, Esther from Orphan, and the girl from The Good Son, collectively known as the three dark children in American horror.

And she was the manipulative type.

Among these three, Danny's impression of Emma was the deepest. After all, there was a remake of The Bad Seed, and Emma not only didn't grow up plain but became even more striking.

Beauty became Emma's most powerful weapon.

"Thank you, mister." Emma showed a sweet smile.

Danny estimated Emma had practiced this smile countless times, but since David was still alive, it meant she probably hadn't targeted anyone seriously yet.

"You're welcome."

After a brief chat,

Danny bid farewell to the father and daughter. Facing the little girl Emma, he didn't even have the interest to take out his cards to investigate.

However, he was quite interested in the concept.

At the same time, he was curious.

What would be the reaction of a naturally bad seed like Emma if she saw a monster? Would she cry like a normal child?

"Trick or treat!"

Another kid came, and Danny casually gave him a few candies to send him away.

He felt that if Salem had more strange characters, it could officially be renamed something ominous.

As night fell,

Halloween Eve officially began.

The people of Salem loved such festivals, and both adults and children eagerly participated.

So, walking on the street, you could see mummies, zombies, vampires, demons, monsters, slashers, ghosts...

If you didn't like any of the above, there were also various animal costumes.

Mostly cute ones worn by little kids.

Danny was dressed as a vampire. Don't even mention it—after putting on the costume and pale makeup, he really looked like a handsome vampire.

Jennifer was the vampire's bride.

Heather also wanted to match Jennifer, but under the latter's strong protest, she dressed as a victim, with bite marks drawn on her neck in blood-red makeup.

Jessie and Brad also came.

Brad was dressed as a butcher—his build was perfect for it.

Jessie was dressed as a pink cat.

As for poor Mike, he was still receiving treatment at a psychiatric facility.

As they walked down the street, jack-o'-lantern decorations were everywhere, as were various "monsters" passing by.

Danny was truly afraid that one day, a real one would blend in.

Then Halloween would turn into a real-life horror scenario.

Oh!

Look who Danny saw—Pete's son, whose behavior was... eccentric, to say the least.

He really was something, but suddenly acting out on the street was like having an episode.

The nearby bar was also decorated in Halloween style.

All sorts of costumed people were coming and going.

Every type imaginable.

As Danny and his friends entered the bar, many people's eyes focused on them. There was no way around it—among all the strangely dressed people,

their looks were exceptionally outstanding.

Especially Danny in his tailored vampire costume—elegant, striking, and handsome, more like a vampire prince than a count.

Danny didn't really want to go dance, but Jennifer insisted on pulling him up.

As soon as they entered the center of the dance floor,

women who were attracted to Danny came up and danced close, pushing others away.

Jennifer was so angry she wanted to hit someone. A bunch of shameless women—that's my boyfriend!

As captain of the school cheerleading team, Jennifer's athleticism was incomparable to these bar regulars.

She immediately pushed aside two women wearing masks and danced intimately with Danny, displaying her status as his girlfriend.

Danny couldn't dance well, so he just moved with the rhythm, but Jennifer insisted on dancing close to him, her body pressed against him.

Behind him, a woman was also pressing close, not allowing him to move back.

This scene made the guys present incredibly envious.

Some bolder ones wanted to squeeze in.

But Brad, nearly six-foot-five, stood steadily beside Jennifer and her friends, like a bodyguard, refusing these people entry.

Heather sat at the bar, sipping a drink. There were quite a few people who wanted to buy her drinks or ask her to dance.

But Heather politely declined them all. Her eyes remained fixed on Danny in the center of the dance floor. Under the flashing lights, his looks transcended any costume.

After a few drinks, as the saying goes, liquid courage kicked in. She made her way onto the dance floor, moving closer to Danny.
