THE BALL
HAN HOO NAN
Why would both of them ask me to be their date at the ball? Why do I have a feeling that Tae Jun is up to no good, but Gi Tak seemed too good and nice to pull a prank on anyone.
What to do?
Whom should I go with?
" So what are you going to do?" Sandra asked as she sat beside me on the sofa.
"Yeah, what answer are you going to give them?" Ga In added slipping the kitchen mints of and opening the oven to bring out the baked chicken.
" Well… I'm going to go with Gi Tak, besides he was the one to ask me to the dance in person.
It's fair that I agree to go with him. Tae Jun has never been nothing but mean to me. I had everyone throwing insults at me because of him and Yeon Ah nearly defeated me. It's only fair that I agree to go with the one who asked me first. " I replied and they both nodded. I watched as Ga In slice the chicken onto three different plates, placing them on a tray, she walked up to us serving us each a plate.
" Yeah, you making a point." They both said with a chorus.
" Enough about me, what of you two? Who are you going to the dance with?" I asked and they looked at each other before turning to me.
" Yun Ki!" they both said excited and I dropped the fork with a piece of meat.
"Huh?"
" Yeah, we decided to go with Yun Ki, we turned down all our requests from the other guys. He told us about how the other girls are all over him so we decided to go to the ball with him instead." Sandra explained and I looked at her with a smile.
" I have no idea what girls see in him? Aish it's irritating." I whined and they both gave me a deadly glare causing me to focus on the chicken before me .
" I'm sorry I talked against your handsome date." I apologized and they smiled right away.
" The ball is tomorrow and I barely know what I'm going to wear." I said taking a bite.
"Leave all that to us." Ga In and Sandra said to me as they posed like taking a picture for the cover of a magazine.
" Awwn what would I do without you two." I said and pulled them into a very tight hug which they complained of not being able to breathe.
" I'm so sorry, I was over excited." I said excitedly with a grin after disengaging the hug.
" Why don't you call Gi Tak and tell him you're going to be his date for the ball " Sandra suggested and I took my phone from the center table and excused myself while they teased me.
" Hello…please is this Gi Tak?"
" Yeah it's me Hoo Nan." The way he says my name makes me wanna melt.
"Umm… I called to tell you that… I'll be your date for the ball." I said stammering a little.
" Really!!" He said cheerfully.
" Yes please." I replied and he went…
"yes…yes…yes!!...You have no idea how happy I am…you just made my night Hoo Nan." He said to me all excited.
" I'll come and pick you up tomorrow so we go to the ball together." He added.
"Okay, I'll look forward to seeing you then." I replied.
"Bye for now." He said and I was about to hang up when I heard a voice in the background.
"Did she fall for it?" I heard the voice say.
"Yeah, she totally fell for it…and even said yes as well." I overheard Gi Tak reply and they both laughed.
"It was easier than I expected." The other one said in the background.
What the… was all this a prank all along?
I immediately hanged up so I wouldn't hear anything further.
How…why was I so blind to think he's different from his brother…after all they have the same blood running through their veins. I just lost my appetite.
How could I be such a fool?
He tricked me.
why? What did I do wrong to deserve this?
I wiped the tears that escaped my eyes and took in a deep breath before returning to the others.
" Here comes our Princess." Ga In said immediately she saw me return to them.
I can't tell them what I over heard or else Ga In might storm into their lounge. I have to fight this alone. I'm not going to just sit back and say nothing, I'll make sure he knows I'm not some toy they can play around with.
" You are going to get the spotlight with this dress. I can't wait to get you prepared for tomorrow." Ga In said to me as placed her plate of chicken on the bed, she walked to my closet and game out with a gown. That night, I couldn't get those words out of my mind.
I felt uneasy and unable to sleep.
I stayed up all night and played some games on my phone but their conversation wouldn't leave my mind. I then took the gift card Tae Jun sent me, I flipped it and saw his number.
I dialed it and sent him a message.
" I'll be your date to the ball. Will be looking forward to it." I sent it and tossed my phone on my bed as I laid down with my face to the ceiling, staring at the flowering design of the ceiling, so many thoughts rushed to my mind and slowly I finally fell asleep.
" Wake up already, it's noon! " A voice woke me up and it was Ga In as she opened the window.
" Let me sleep a little longer please." I pleaded but she pulled me off my bed holding my left leg.
" Get up lazy bones, I made lunch…let's eat together." She said as she pulled me along with her to the kitchen and sat me down behind the table in the kitchen.
" Here have some food...(comes to myside and pulled me off the chair.) Go brush your teeth first." She ordered and I walked to the bathroom lazily and brushed my teeth leisurely.
" Hey!! Hurry and come eat!" I heard Ga In's piercing voice from the kitchen. I hurried back and sat behind the food she had prepared and it was delicious.
"How come you are such a good cook. I thought you have maids doing all the chores and cooking."
"Well we do have maids but then, which kind of wife would I be if I can't even cook for my husband. I learnt how to cook very well so you wouldn't have to worry about Yun Ki when he and I get married." She said adorably and winked an eyes with cuteness.
"Ya! What kind of things have you being imagining doing with my brother?"
"You can imagine" she replied with a mischievous grin.
" I regret asking." I said shaking off the perverted thoughts that crept in and returned to my food and consumed it all before going to shower.
" Where's Sandra?" I asked as I walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my hair.
" Oh she said she had some errands to run so she'll return this evening before the ball. " Ga In replied and I nodded as I unwrapped the towel and plucked in the hair drier to dry my wet hair.
" It's past three already, the ball will be starting soon!!" A voice said loudly and we all turned to find Sandra standing in the doorway with two bags in her hand.
"says the person who hasn't taken her evening bath." Ga in teased and I rolled my eye.
" Where have you been?" I asked and she cat walked towards us. It was almost time for the ball and "I" hadn't even taken my bath yet.
" I went shopping with Daddy…this is yours(hand over one bag to Ga In) and this is yours(hands over the other bag to me.) You two should get ready it's getting late!!" she looked so excited.
Ga In and I thanked her for the gift and she went
"Oh it's nothing, what are sisters For?"
They sat me behind the mirror after my bath and began my make up as I just sat down ideal, thoughts of yesterday's incident came crawling into my mind but then I shook the thoughts out and focused on what they were doing.
They had me facing in the opposite direction of the mirror so they turned me around after they were done.
" Oh my God, you look gorgeous girl!!!" Ga In said excitedly.
" Thanks to you two…thanks for making me this beautiful."
"Of course not, you're gorgeous already, we just added some little touch." Sandra said pecking my cheeks.
They both got ready too and we wore our gowns together and you should've seen us. We looked stunning in it.
Ga In wore a cream sparkling gown with peacock feathers design on the tip of the sleeves, Sandra wore a light green gown with sparkling gems on the contour of her gown with a silver lining at the tip of the gown and I wore a red gown with black flowering designs in it.
Sandra wore her silver heels with glittering sparks at the edge of the heels.
Ga In wore her matching cream heels with diamonds (real diamonds) on it while I wore black heels with a red rose flower design on the sides.
" Are you not coming with us?" Ga In asked when I paused on our way out of the dorm.
" No…you two should go ahead. I'll join you soon. Besides Gi Tak will be dropping me at the ball. I'll come together with him."
" Lucky you, look how she's blushing."
" We'll take our leave now." They both said as they walked towards Ga In's limousine which was waiting for them.
I watched as the chauffeur opened the door for them to get into the car. I waved at them and watch the car drive off. I hurried back into the room only to find ten missed calls all by Gi Tak and five missed calls from Tae Jun as well. I took my phone and sent them both a message.
" I'm very sorry, but I can't make it to the ball. Have a wonderful evening." My phone began to ring immediately after the message was sent and it was Gi Tak.
I ignored his call and heaved a sigh as I fell on my bed.
No… I can't just stay here, they'll think they won, but I just stood them up? My phone rang again and it was Ga In.
"Hey, where are you? The ball is about to begin." She said to me after I answered the phone.
" I'll be there in a few, don't worry." I said to her and hanged up.
Hoo Nan, you have to go to the ball. Sandra and Ga In are going to get really worried if you don't make it.
I stood up and wore my heels, stormed out of the room, locked the door, rushed out of the dorm and walked to the entrance of the ball room. All eyes were on me as I stepped foot at the entrance and walked majestically into the ball room. I heard them gasp with surprise and murmured among themselves. I looked forward and my eyes met his, it was Tae Jun, his eyes grew wide with shock as he saw me. I turned to his right and saw Hyang Jun (Ga In's Oppa) who smiled when our eyes met. I looked around but no sign of Gi Tak… did he not come to the ball? Where is he?
...YOUNG GI TAK....
I couldn't believe it when she told me she wasn't going to make it. Was it because Tae Jun asked her to be his date? She wasn't picking up my calls or replying my messages either. I was dead worried and wondered what might be wrong with her so I hurried to her dorm and asked one of the first years to call for her but then she told me Hoo Nan had left for the ball.
I sat in my car and was about to start the engine when my phone began to ring, it was Hyang Jun.
" Hey…where are you?"
" I'm on my way to the Ball room."
" Hurry because she just made a grand entrance and she looks too stunning for someone who said she wouldn't be able to make it to the ball."
" Really?"
"Yeah, hurry…come and take a look for yourself. She even ignored Tae Jun when their eyes met and he was stunned to see her." " I'm almost there…Bye for now." I said as I hanged up the call and started the car's engine.
I slammed the car door after getting off the car. I walked through the entrance of the ball room, everyone just turned to my direction upon my arrival and I smiled at them.
" You're finally here brother. Now let the ball begin!" Tae Jun ordered and everyone was happy as the ball officially began.
I looked around, searching for her but it was hard to find her because the room was filled with people, besides the ball room is huge.
" Are you looking for me?" I only turned to find a very stunning young lady in a red gown standing before me.
" Hoo Nan?" I asked and she smiled.
" I thought you said…"
"Yeah, I told you I wouldn't be able to make it but then I did."
" I'm relieved… I thought something happened to you." I said with a smile but she then she frowned.
" Did you think I would fall for it that easily? Do you think you could fool me with your sweetness and lure me into your game?" She asked getting me totally confused.
" What are you talking about?" I asked her with a puzzled expression.
" Did you and your brother think I was a toy that you could play around with? For the first time I thought I could believe you and I even thought you were different from him but then I was wrong. You both have the same cold blood running through you." She added.
That was when I recalled I didn't end the call yesterday evening.
I think she overheard Hyang Jun and I. But she got it all wrong.
" Hoo Nan… you got it all wrong. It's just a misunderstanding."
" Don't Hoo Nan me… it's over, I will never fall for your games. I respect you a lot that's why I didn't cause a scene so I'm asking politely, please stay away from me." She said to me and stormed out through the side door leading to the washroom.
I tried to go after her but someone held me back. It was Hyang Jun.
" What happened…what's wrong with her?" He asked me immediately Hoo Nan stomped out and Ga In went after her. I just shrugged and shook my head sideways, brushing my fingers trough my hair totally frustrated.
She got it all wrong, it's not what you think Hoo Nan.
Just allow me to explain.
" She got it all wrong Hyang Jun-ah, she thinks Tae Jun and I planned to toy around with her. She didn't even give me a chance to explain myself."
" Don't be too hard on yourself, she's having a hard time now. I think you should stay calm for now and when she's calm too...then you explain everything to her. Okay?" Hyang Jun advised and I nodded. I saw Tae Jun stare at me in the distance and I looked away and walked out of the ball room.
I hope she gives me the chance to make things right and clear thus misunderstanding. I can't loose the friendship developing between us.
