Chapter 8 - An Imminent Danger

It took quite a while they gained composure but the great fear loomed within their chest still remained.

'Something is wrong...' Ethan's mind now started in motion, yet it was easy how it turned to a worse possibilities forged inside his head.

Damian's sword drew, and brought their minds clear, steering away from discord. Once they all regained their balance. He click his hilt. "When I give you a signal, all of you tread with caution."

Eleanor tugged his shirt. "Brother, we can't leave you—"

"Don't worry. Just make sure they shouldn't go near all of you." A corner on his mouth perked up. "Am I clear?" He then pointed the sword at the towering figure of the monster.

Later on, the shadow stature revealed how the monster; unbothered in front of him, it now licked near his paw. About enough to wipe off the blood bathed on his silver fur.

Seemingly grooming itself.

It locked its gaze towards them before giving out a snarl.

Which then opted a unison of growls, enough to vibrate the toppled cars and bent post lamps.

Arlene gulped hard, as she gripped on the handles of Oscar's wheelchair. "... Then, we will leave it to you."

Noticing how their eldest brother bended his knees, Ethan grabbed his twin away from him.

"Go!"

Damian moved about a single slash: on what seemed he marked the ground all the way up. Now erupted a tremor separated them and the monsters. Yet it didn't end there as raging flames shot up, forming as high as the big monster perched atop of the toppled cars.

He then jumped higher than the wall and dove towards the crowded wolves.

A loud impact almost caught them out of balance.

With nothing but a perfect chance for them to escape, Oscar drew the youngest close to him. "We need to go."

"Bro Oz, where to?"

"Back to hotel lobby. We wait there until it's over." He then looked around. "Sis, I can handle this, take care of yourself and watch our backs."

Arlene then nod as soon as Oscar nudged his wheelchair.

Everyone flinched from a sudden explosion of a nearby car engulfed by the fire wall.

Series of growls of wolves charging and whimpers as their bodies sent flying— either slammed to the chipped edifice or against the ground.

They backtracked. The best and possible solution they agreed upon was the hotel lobby.

Not once, since fight began, did the noise faded away.

Perhaps not any time soon.

But they knew they had to make haste, seeing how the wall of fire would trail off any minute.

Unbeknownst to him, the rest of his siblings hid behind the column of the nearby entrance building. Arlene could only waved her arms at him but turned out rather futile.

He paced but then snapped out of it when he noticed a wolf hurled midair might land near him. In a nick of time, he rolled away from the impact and eyes closed as the dust cloud and blood splattered him once more.

Stomach churned for worse, and the want to barf unfolded to imminent with his back and head— this time around— drenched with blood and innards.

In that split moment, a resounding blare erupted from a smashed car.

They all froze in their stead.

Ethan, now propped in all fours, mustered up his courage.

Fist curled as he looked ahead only to see it about several meters above.

Despite the wolf drenched his blood, right eye wounded and chipped horn, it bounced from the side of the edifice, and pounced his way.

The boss monster aimed at him— mouth wide and claws stretching out.

Oscar, with eyes and lips sealed shut, pulled her sisters close. Before they could even scream on top of their lungs, he did a dauntless choice to cover them with his palms with such tightness as he placed his arm over their frail shoulders.

Closing in their distance had Damian appeared and block his raging claws headed to Ethan's way.

With a swift change on his hilt he parried the attack, and went straight for a counterattack, slashing him with such force, enough to crackle the air.

Seemingly a relief, his face darkened when it was but an afterimage.

From the corner of Damian's eyes loomed the actual figure of the monstrous monster. With him midair and back exposed, it let out a quick snarl.

His claw tore his shirt with ease, revealing a large claw strike etched his back. Blood gushed out his back.

It never aimed at Ethan to begin with, it was a great opening for the monster to deal quite a blow to Damian.

They all screamed in unison as their brother groaned on top of his lungs.

Damian crashed to the still-blaring car. It never take much time for him to stand for he stabbed the road with the remaining strength. He waved his hand to Ethan. "Move—!" urged him to move out of the way but began to fumble when he started coughing a mouthful of blood as well.

The danger still loomed around.

With it now growled once more, his legs began to lower as though he would pounce at any minute.

It bounced in several directions, trying to confuse them; however, one thing for sure it pursued to close the gap.

Once more, Damian braced the impact— despite the power surrounding his sword flickered with intensity— as the monster leapt one last time at him.

Soon as it reached on top of the car, the smell of gas and oil had Damian grabbed Ethan rolled away from it.

A sudden blast of flame— a vibrant red engulfed the monster whole, vanishing its entirety of the shape. A sharp cry trailed off when flames turned white.

Ethan's head rang from the impact but he never took his eyes off from the direction he took his glimpse.

Arlene raised her hands, a magical symbol formed around her feet and hand. Both her hair and coat fluttered and her tears boiled to a steam as she seethed through her incantation.

No whimpers...

No ashes...

The flames devoured and left no stone unturned.

She made sure.

Not to mess with her.

Thus another awakened, forged from hatred and despair, was born.
