Oscar wanted to type, but the message never went through.
It was not a surprise that the internet connection got cut off. Fortunately, it was quite late and they had enough time to go over and check what went on outside their vision.
But the major problem existed that it was a world wide of a change; a change they could never life their lives like before.
Ethan turned off his phone as he looked at them.
While his sisters' eyes concerned him, he stared at Oscar from the possibility as though welcoming the idea.
Right now, he looked around to look for ways to survive.
Rations, food, or whatever he could get his hands on.
Everything was real at this point, and to get away from this place with his family was his number one priority.
He rummaged his messenger bag once more, and took notice of the red velvet box he had. The twins eyed each other then nodded in unison.
Now that Eleanor could move better than ever.
"Elle mentioned that we wanted to surprise you, and about the end of the day..." He shifted his gaze towards the other twin for the signal once more. "... But I don't think that's the case."
"Sis, it might not be the right time, but we will never know when will be, either..."
Arlene turned around, looking at the twins as they extended their palms with the gift box they had to her.
Once thing for certain, her eyes welled up with tears as she hugged the twins tight.
It was her birthday, but it was a chaos all throughout; and they had no choice but to rely on her if not for Damian to come around and help her as well.
"Really, you two..." She pinched their cheeks before opening it. There she opened, and pair of satin gloves with gold bracelet and ring perched atop it. The twins helped her wear, Ethan was most careful as the satin cloth brush past the thick, cracked palms of hers. She let out a hearty laugh to both of them. "Thank you. This means a lot."
Afterwhich, they looked up when they noticed a subtle shake of the ceiling.
There had never been a sudden shake ever since they entered the hotel building.
Though it never crossed to be complacent.
"We must move now." They all snapped out of it as soon as Damian stood up and rolled his sleeves up to his elbow. All of them gulped, remained their positions as he reached for the door knob. "Get ready."
The hallway was rather clear, and the silence too eerie. No signs of commotion, item breakages nor blood splattered on both walls and floors.
"Its' clear... Let's go." With Damian at the vanguard, he trekked enough to muffle his footsteps, and the rest followed.
He stopped his tracks, noticing the more splatters of blood by the corner of the hallway. His back now pressed against the wall.
Ethan winced when his twin's nails dug quite in his skin. Urged her to get a grip. Their eldest brother only mouthed, "Stay here. I'll finish this quick."
The moment his sword gleamed from the unsheathe, his figure vanished into thin air and left nothing but wave that soothed their tensed legs and arms.
The cries and whimpers of monsters echoed the hallway. To Ethan's curiosity, he slipped past Arlene's and peeked. Shimmers from his ash brown eyes reflected of what Damian made rounds and rhythm from the sword strikes.
It was like a dance; a shadow that moved in between the pack of wolves and only when he stopped a second can they all see his figure and then before he vanished in thin air.
The hotel lobby smeared with his art, drawn from theirs bled dry.
All of them are in awe until he stood at the end. Blood smothered the area along with the fresh carcasses. He then walked away from the scene, paced towards his siblings. Up close, the blood smeared about few areas of his pants and knitted shirt but not that it mattered to him.
Ethan urged to clap but promised to be at his best behavior and be quiet as not to draw any attention. However, their smiles brought their eldest brother a scratch on his nape, looking away.
The hallway shook, albeit tad as it was then. "Few meters ahead and its the exit of the building."
Taking their time, around them had dividers dilapidated, hanging pictures either broken or torn apart, and large claws and etches on the wall became the new mural of this horror place.
The breeze brushed their faces, turning right; they saw beyond what beyond the broken glass frames had to offer: raging flames from toppled cars, chipped off buildings, and pack of wolves roaming in a far distance.
Ethan scrunched his face, remembering the recent videos.
'Why am I seeing only wolves at this point?'
The air around them became stifling, and cold. Reeking of rancid rust, and any longer would have them collapsed. If not for the wonders Damian's sword wielded, they might've not come this far.
Without delay, they scurried their way out of the building.
'Where are the people here?' He scoured with neck leaning over and around him. 'Are there really no survivors at this time?'
Right now, the smoke wafted through his nose from the nearby fire, which he trailed off. But he couldn't stay away as they followed their eldest brother's back.
Ethan seemed to be lost in his train of thoughts when he ended up smashing his face on Damian's Back. For he wanted to complain; however, even the latter froze from what a sight to behold.
Damian cursed under his breath. "Why is it here?"
All of them stood in their stance. On top of toppled cars found a large build of a wolf. With the sky only cast a shadow of its silhouette and left its eyes gleamed with green. Even brighter and it all brought them to their knees.
Ethan gagged as he propped in all fours. While eyeing on the asphalted road, he gasped for air. 'That is the boss monster, no doubt!'
Damian remained still, but he kept stealing a glance towards us.
The ground tremored when it howled, and what seemed the from the corners loomed more wolves on every cast of shadow therein.
