Chapter 96 - The Cease and Desist

[The Vault of User 001 - Inside the Dyson Sphere]

The air inside the Dyson Sphere smelled like ozone and fresh rain. Elena stood on the diamond pedestal, looking down at her own hands. She was breathing. Her heart was beating. She looked from her hands to the towering, 7-foot-tall synthetic Praetorian Guards, and finally to the man standing in front of her.

Alex was wearing a bespoke midnight-blue suit, radiating an aura of absolute authority. But his eyes were exactly the same as they were five years ago in that cramped hospital room.

"Alex..." Elena whispered, stepping off the pedestal. "How long was I asleep?"

"Five years," Alex caught her as her legs wobbled, wrapping his arms around her tightly. "A lot has changed. I got a promotion."

"I can see that," she laughed softly, tears stinging her eyes as she looked at the silver-haired assassin (Luna) and the scarred alien Admiral (Valerius) bowing respectfully in the background. "Are we... in space?"

"I'll explain everything," Alex promised, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "But right now, we need to leave. Management is coming."

[The Cease and Desist]

Before Alex could turn toward the Revenant, the captive white dwarf star at the center of the Dyson Sphere violently flickered. The serene, blue artificial sky above them shattered. It didn't break like glass; it dissolved into jagged pixels.

A massive, crimson holographic projection covered the entire heavens . [ERROR 404: SECTOR OVERRIDE.] [TIER-4 HOSTILE TAKEOVER INITIATED.]

"Boss!" Valerius shouted, grabbing his plasma rifle. "Dawn is offline! The ship's engines are dead!"

Alex opened his System Interface. It was completely frozen, locked behind a flashing red padlock icon.

[Account Frozen Pending Audit by The Board of Directors.]

From the pixelated sky, three figures descended. They didn't fly; they simply stepped down through the air as if the laws of gravity were just suggestions. They wore featureless, glowing white suits that hurt the eyes to look at.

[Designation: The Cosmic Auditors.]

The lead Auditor landed on the diamond plaza. He had no face, just a smooth visor of white light. "User 009," The Auditor's voice was a flat, synthetic drone that vibrated in Alex's teeth. "You have committed gross capital violations. You utilized an unauthorized 1 Quadrillion GC transaction, disrupting the Sector 0 economy. Your account is hereby seized."

"I paid the market price," Alex stepped in front of Elena, his Tycoon's Aura flaring gold.

"You are a rogue asset," The Auditor stated coldly. "The Board of Directors has issued a Cease and Desist order on your existence. Liquidation will commence immediately."

The Auditor raised a hand and snapped its fingers.

[The Freeze]

A wave of absolute, terrifying silence washed over the Dyson Sphere. Alex turned to his left. Valerius was frozen mid-shout, his plasma rifle hovering an inch out of his hands. Luna was frozen mid-dash, her silver hair suspended in the air.

Even the wind had stopped. The Auditors hadn't paused time; they had paused physics. It was a literal Cease and Desist.

Alex tried to move, but his limbs felt like they were encased in concrete. His Tycoon's Aura was the only thing keeping his mind awake, but his physical body was completely locked by the Tier-4 command.

"Your System privileges are revoked," The Auditor walked slowly toward Alex, raising a hand glowing with deletion-energy. "Goodbye, User 009."

Alex gritted his teeth, his muscles tearing as he tried to force his arm up. It was useless. He had 0 GC. He couldn't buy a countermeasure.

[The Anomaly]

Suddenly, a soft hand reached past Alex. Elena stepped forward.

The Auditor froze. The featureless white visor tilted in confusion.

Elena wasn't frozen. She walked normally, her bare feet padding softly against the diamond floor. She looked at the frozen world, then at the Auditor, her brow furrowed in anger.

"I don't know who you are," Elena said, her voice echoing loudly in the silent, paused universe. "But you are not touching him."

Elena raised her hand and shoved the Auditor squarely in the chest.

CRACK.

The moment her skin made contact with the glowing white suit, the Auditor's form violently glitched. Red static erupted from its chest. The Tier-4 entity was thrown backward, crashing into the pedestal of the Genesis Crucible.

[SYSTEM ERROR: UNRECOGNIZED BIOLOGICAL DATA DETECTED.] [Target 'Elena' not found in Universal Database.]

"What... is that?" The damaged Auditor rasped, its voice skipping like a broken record. "It possesses no System ID. It has no digital footprint. It is... an Anomaly."

Alex gasped as the physical freeze around him shattered. He fell to one knee, panting heavily. He looked at Elena, and then at the Genesis Crucible.

She was resurrected by a Tier-4 Precursor Forge, Alex realized, a predatory grin spreading across his face. The System didn't build her. It has no record of her existence. To the Board's algorithms... she doesn't exist.

"Elena," Alex stood up, straightening his tie.

"Yeah?" she looked at him, slightly panicked by what she had just done.

"You always said you wanted to help me run the business," Alex's eyes flashed with Tycoon gold. "How do you feel about a Hostile Takeover?"
