Chapter 21 - 21 assassination

On the way back to camp, suddenly, a very subtle vibration came from the air.

[Unknown heat source detected, three people] The chip alerted him. This made Green's expression serious, but he showed no unusual behavior and continued steadily towards the camp.

[Synchronize thermal vision, activate biological field scanning, and analyze enemy vital signs.]

Thanks to the chip, Green's right eye had acquired infrared-like vision, giving him a clear view of the enemy's situation. To Green, the group, hidden in the sand and under the cover of night, were indeed difficult to spot. Unfortunately, this camouflage was meaningless against Green's ability to detect heat sources. On a patch of blue ground, several large red heat sources were clearly visible.

[Thermal vision synchronization complete, biological field scan finished, current enemy status assessed]

[Unknown heat source 1]

[Strength: 3.2]

[Speed: 3.1]

[Constitution: 3.3]

...

[Finally, it was determined that all three were Knight-level beings, and the likelihood of them posing a threat to the main body was extremely low.]

[Is that all? You're not even qualified to let me test your strength.]

Three men were lying in ambush on Green's way back to camp. Green's face grew increasingly grim. The other party had clearly come prepared. Only Old Green knew that he had left the camp. Unless the other party had been watching Green closely, it was impossible for them to know the direction Green had left the camp and to carry out such a precise ambush.

[There's a traitor within the camp.] Green had already made his judgment. The possibility of betrayal from the original members of the caravan was very small; the only possibility was the newly joined Baron Candia's caravan. Even if it wasn't Baron Candia himself, it was probably related to someone in his caravan.

Slowly channeling the energy within his body, Green walked into the encirclement that the three had prepared in advance.

"brush"

The three attackers were incredibly decisive. The instant Grimm entered the encirclement, they launched a surprise attack from the front and left/right. The one in front kicked up a cloud of rocks and dust, aiming directly at Grimm's eyes to obscure his vision. Their coordination was impeccable; if an ordinary knight had fallen into such a trap, they would likely have faced certain death.

[Unfortunately, they were facing me!]

To Green, the movements of the three attackers were like slow motion, utterly posing no threat. Glancing at the approaching assassins on either side, Green casually deflected the daggers aimed at him with his own hands.

With just a casual strike from Green, the hands of the two men holding daggers exploded as if struck by a hammer, and their bodies slammed heavily into the ground from the immense force of the impact. After dealing with the men on both sides, Green slightly turned his body and delivered a whip kick that struck the assassin directly in front of him in the chest.

"Click"

A crisp sound rang out, and the assassin's bones in front of him were crushed into pieces as if they had been run over by several large trucks. When the assassin fell to the ground, he had become a pile of mud.

"ah"

A heart-wrenching scream rang out as the two assassins, their hands shattered by a casual slap from Green, collapsed to the ground, groaning in agony. The injury Green had inflicted on them was not a simple shock. Green had channeled energy into his hands, channeling a sliver of energy into their bodies as he attacked them.

Based on the destructive power of the energy, it must be as if a giant iron hammer is smashing all their organs inside their bodies.

Seeing the two assassins dressed in black, Green pulled off their masks. The two men were around forty or fifty years old, one tall and one short.

"Speak, who sent you?" Green lifted the two men and placed them together. He temporarily stopped the raging energy flowing into their bodies.

The energy within the two assassins temporarily ceased. As if reborn from the ashes, they gasped for air, staring at Green standing beside them with terror in their eyes. They looked at Green as if he were a monster.

In a mere instant, all three of their men were knocked down, two seriously injured and one dead. As for how the two men discovered one was dead, the one lying on the ground had his chest and back pressed together, kicked into a paper-like shape by the monster in front of him.

[Chip enables micro-expression capture]

"We'll talk, we'll talk." These kinds of assassins aren't like the ones in the movies, with unwavering beliefs who would never betray their organization, even to the death. These are the kind of assassins who live on the edge, working only for money. Once captured, their first instinct is to betray their organization. If they don't confess, they'll suffer torture, and their organization might not even seek revenge. If they confess, maybe the person in front of them will be in a good mood and spare their lives. As for whether they'll be held accountable afterward, if they die now, there won't even be a future consequence.

"We are assassins from the Shadow Organization, specializing in all kinds of assassination missions. Your mission was issued by the Kingdom of Saladin. The Kingdom of Saladin didn't have the resources to hunt you down, so they asked our Shadow Organization to send assassins to kill you." The assassin's answer was exceptionally clear, betraying the organization behind him and his client.

[The Kingdom of Saladin? That's normal. Five knights died at his hands, and another was someone who had the potential to become a Grand Knight. It's not unusual for him to issue such a bounty.] Knowing who his enemy was, Grimm continued to question the assassin.

"How did you know I left the camp?" Green continued to press.

"It was Baron Candia. Since you had been staying with the caravan, we didn't have many opportunities to assassinate you. So we bribed Baron Candia to team up with you and have him keep an eye on your movements. When you left the camp, he contacted us and told us the direction you went, so we deliberately lay in ambush here."

Listening to their words, a dangerous glint appeared in Green's eyes. During the chip analysis, the two men's micro-expressions remained unchanged, meaning that they were telling the truth and had not deceived Green.

The two also sensed the killing intent emanating from Green. Green's powerful life essence released a killing intent like a chilling wind, causing the two lying on the ground to tremble uncontrollably. This was the suppression of ordinary life by a higher-level being.

Green quickly withdrew his murderous aura, and seeing that the two of them had urinated all over the ground, he couldn't help but show disgust.

Green squatted down in front of the two men and patted their faces. "Do you want to live or die?"

"We want to live, we want to live! What do you need us to do, sir?" Hearing that Green was willing to spare their lives, the two men's pale faces, due to blood loss, suddenly regained some color. They quickly got up from the ground and knelt down to kowtow to Green.

What are your names?

"Sir, my name is Wade, and this one next to me is called Dila," one of the younger boys quickly replied to Green.

"What kind of structure does your so-called Shadow Organization have? Will it continue to cause me trouble after this assassination attempt failed?" Green asked the crucial question. If his life was to continue to be harassed by this Shadow Organization, Green would have to consider how to destroy it.

"No, no, sir. The Shadow Organization is just a platform, responsible only for posting bounties. Assassins choose their own missions. If successful, the Shadow Organization takes a cut of the referral fee; if unsuccessful, they simply repost the bounty. Our assassination team of three knights is already top-tier. Anything above that would only be more knights, and even a Grand Knight would be a piece of cake for you, sir!" Wade immediately answered Green's question, a fawning smile on his face as he praised Green's martial prowess.

Green listened to Wade's explanation and nodded. Since it was unlikely that the other side would continue to send assassins, there was no need to eliminate them for the time being. Besides, the Shadow Organization was just a loosely structured platform; even if he destroyed it, a new Shadow Organization would emerge, and when the bounty was placed, he would still face assassins. To truly solve this problem, the Kingdom of Saladin needed to withdraw the assassination attempt.

"I'm giving you a task: after you return to the camp, identify Baron Candia for me. Once you complete the task, you can leave."

"Yes, yes, yes, sir." After seeing that the two agreed, Green turned around and continued walking towards the camp.

Seeing Green's exposed back, Wade and Dilla exchanged a glance, then silently took out some medicine powder from their pockets and sprinkled it on their wounds. They didn't attack Green despite his obvious weakness.

Green was so terrifying that the two of them had completely lost the courage to fight him. Now they just wanted to complete Green's mission so they could leave this horrible place and get away from Green.

Green certainly wouldn't expose his back casually. With the chip, Green could scan the surrounding environment from all angles. If the two of them started fighting, death would be the only outcome.
