Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten

"You know, you can release all the anger and hatred you are carrying inside you to the wind. Let all your worries flow away."

Jane chuckled.

"The wind would probably find my burden too much to bear."

"Fair enough. " Ferguson replied and she smirked.

Silence stretched between them.

"Was taking your life the best option?"

"It wasn't like I had another choice."

"There is always another choice."

"I have nothing to live for."

"Then live for yourself."

"You say it like it's that easy."

"Of course. " Ferguson smiled. "You know, Jane, life is too beautiful for you to cut short. You have to appreciate it. Love it. Only then can you find purpose. "

Jane pondered over what he had said for few minutes.

"My world is void. Everything I cherish and stood for is gone. My father, my sister….. I thought that killing the Mafian Lords would take the pain away. But instead, I'm left with a dull void. My heart aches and there is nothing I can do. "

Ferguson moved closer, making sure there was no space between them. He then held her fingers.

"You are human, Jane. It's normal to hurt. But then sometimes when we cry, it's not because we are weak but because we have been strong for too long. Let it all out...." He pulled her into a warm embrace and all the pain she has been keeping in burst open. She cried loud and hard for a long time.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine. Everything would be fine...…"

Jane and Ferguson became friends. Ferguson was the son of a business tycoon that dealt in Fashion accessories.

Everyday, he would take her out and show her things that she never took notice off. He wanted to give her a new life; away from all the violence. The kind of life he knew her father would have wanted for her. It wasn't an easy task but he knew it was one he would succeed.

Time flew and they both grew inseparable. Their relationship blossomed and they were ready to take it to the next level when tragedy struck. Mrs Giovanni was murdered and all they had as closest to a clue was a note that reads:" we are always watching."

It was then Ferguson decided that the city was no longer safe for them. He wanted Jane to leave with him.

"I can't ," she sobbed. "I can't just run away. I have to avenge my mother's death."

"I know, Jane. But not everything is about vengeance. It won't bring her back. These people would come back for you. Remember that they are watching through the shadows. We have to leave."

Jane sniffed and looked at him.

"That's it? We just run away?"

"It's not running away. It's about surviving."

And that night, Jane took a new identity and vanished from the city along with Ferguson. They later got married and had a baby girl...…"

"I'm so sorry," Jane apologized again.

Jane looked from one woman to another. Surely she wanted to hear the truth but this wasn't what she was preparing for.

"I'm also sorry, Jasmine." Daisy apologized too.

"I'm sorry, Mum. I had no idea." Jasmine said quietly as Jane tried to stifle back her tears.

"Come here," she said as she locked Jasmine into a warm embrace.

From a tall tower in the Hills estate, Mrs Elena sat down brows knotted and fingers crossed waiting for the next piece of information from her lackies.

She was also strategizing her next move. The ringing of her phone distracted her momentarily.

"Yes?" She asked.

"Daisy and Jane went to see her. They are still in there."

"Daisy. Hmmm. Isn't she one of the Davidson crew?"

"Yes, she is. She is married to Davidson's best friend."

"Oh, I see. What else?"

"My informant told me that Jasmine is getting released tomorrow."

"That's great news." She said elated. "Now, I'll have to plan a meeting with my dear daughter in law and dear, very dear unborn grandchild." She hung up with a smirk on her face.

"You underestimated me, Davidson. Don't come crawling back when this is over...….."

The first rays of the morning sun peeped in through the curtains. Jasmine squinted as she tried to dodge the rays. Lazily, she sat up in bed and looked at the window. It was definitely going to be a beautiful day.

The past few days after she had been discharged have been eventful. She and Davidson were putting up residence at his pent house. The security there was top notch. Davidson himself was on high alert. She sighed warily as her stomach grumbled. She was hungry.

She made her way to the kitchen and as usual, Davidson was there, making tea and toast.

"Hey, look who is up."

"Good morning."

"Morning.," he smiled as he pecked her.

"Making breakfast?" She teased.

"Why does that sound like: making an attempt at cooking?"

"I guess it does," she said and they laughed.

"Well love, I may be bad at cooking but definitely, I know how to make toast and tea."

"Effort appreciated."Jasmine smiled as she handed him a plate.

Silence reigned as they ate.

"I would like to go shopping today. It's been a while I actually cooking a meal."

"You can send me the list and I'll gladly do it for you."

"Come on, Davidson. Stop treating me like a prisoner."

"I'm not and you know it. I'm trying to protect you. You know it's not safe out there."

"I know but I'll be careful, okay?"

"I'm coming with you."

"No, you are not."Jasmine quickly replied.

Davidson grunted.

"Fine, but make sure you take guards with you."

"As your highness wishes."

After breakfast, Jasmine had a long and warm bath before getting ready to go shopping. She was dressed in something comfortable and she looked beautiful as usual in it.

Davidson went out for a business meeting after issuing a stern warning to the guards not to let Jasmine out of their sight.

After spraying perfume, she walked out and ten guards escorted her . Trust Davidson not to compromise her safety.

The car drove on for few minutes before stopping at the mart.

It's feels good to finally breathe in some outside air, Jasmine thought as she walked inside. The guards took position outside while two of them followed her in.

She strolled around casually, picking this and buying that. She was almost done when she bumped into someone.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry…."she apologized immediately as the guards rushed forward.

"Well, well. Look who we have here." A voice sneered.

Jasmine turned abruptly and right in front of her was Mrs Elena Bryan-Hills.
