As soon as I was about to be killed by the remaining six Lava Toads that were all starting to charge up there lava spit at me i heard to distinct shots that were very close, but I did not see what the shots came from.
After the shots were fired two to the Lava Toads onto the ground with holes in their heads. Then just like the ones that I had killed, they started to glow a reddish orange color.
Then the rest of the Lava Toads jumped out of the way which gave me the chance to rise to my feet and quickly run back myself.
When the two dead Lava Toads blew up releasing all of the remaining lava that they had stored in their stomachs, I saw that there were two sphere shaped probes. This meant that I had been saved by my teammate.
As the Lava Toads where still recovering from the explosion?I rushed at them and stabbed two of them in the gut before backing away.
After the two newest corpses detonated , I had rushed at the last three stabbing them all in the neck with a clean strike.
I made my way back to where I had positioned my sniper rifle, and I took a look at what was going on below.
Sophitia head defeated most of the Lava Toads that were present when we started this battle. There were only three Lava Toads left.
I chose to shoot at the enemy that was the furthest from Sophitia so that she did not get caught in the blast of its self detonation.
After I had killed the Lava toad I chose to just watch the battle through my scope.
The last two of the Lava Toads shot their lava spit and Sophitia dodged them with ease by side stepping to the right. Then I saw that she shot a quick burst from her energy rifle at the first of the Lava Toads in the right arm. Next, I saw that she shot at the same lava toad and blew its head off.
In order to secure victory for both myself and Sophitia I shot the last Lava Toad which meant that the battle was now over.
"Check Status" I said as I sat down since I knew that the battle was finally over and I could take the time needed to examine my stats.
My stats read:
Level: 4 Exp 250 of 2000
Strength: 7, Agility: 4, Fortitude: 1, Intelligence: 1, Willpower: 1
100 of 100 health, 0 of 0 power.
Three Atribute points avaliable.
No passive or active skills.
I chose to put my three available atribute points into my strength stat.
Then as I closed the status screen, another screen popped up in its place.
The screen read:
Your strength has evolved enough to get your first strength based passive. Choose your skill wisely.
After I read that the text vanished, and in its place came a list of passive abilities for me to choose between. There were three in total.
The first ability was Reticle Stabilization – Scope sway reduced while crouched or prone. The second ability was Weakpoint Recognition – Structural and biological weak points glow faintly when scoped in. The final passive option was Longshot Acuity – Accuracy increases the farther the target is beyond standard engagement range.
I chose to go with the passive skill of Weakpoint Recognition.
Then the screen closed and I made my way down to the ravine where I met up with Sophitia.
"Thanks for the help. If you were not here I would have died". I said to Sophitia as I made my way to her with my sniper rifle on my back.
"It is the least that I can do for the woman who I owe my life to". Sophitia said to me as she started to examine her rifle.
I started to walk deeper down the ravine, hoping that we would not run into anything else until we made it all the way through.
"It really sucks that there is nothing left over for us to claim when we kill Lava Toads." Sophitia said in a pouty tone.
"Oh come on Sophitia we need to think in an optimistic way , because that might mean that we're going to get a really awesome skill book from defeating the pain mages." I said in an optimistic tone to lift her spirits.
It took me about two hours to make it to the end of the ravine.
At the end of the ravine I saw a large temple that was built into the rock of the end of the ravine.
The temple was very large with walls going at least thirty feet up before making contact with the ceiling. There were two large columns outside of the temple, and a magical barrier that surrounding the entire temple.
This meant that if Sophitia or I where to make it into the temple we would have to find a way to disable this barrier.
There were three individuals left in front of the temple. They were all Agony Hounds. These hounds were all about seven feet in height and had a very rough physique that they most likely used as a type of natural armor.
"Destiny you can stay back here and use your sniper iphone while I pull attention away from you with my energy rifle and probes." Sophitia said to me as she started to rush towards the Agony Hounds.
Then after she started to fire at the first of the Agony Hounds, I set up myself for support shots with my sniper rifle by making use of my new passive skill Weakpoint Recognition.
When I crouched myself down and looked through my scope , I was able to see the heat signatures of everyone in the battle, but the Agony Hounds had glowing light blue dots throughout their body in key vital areas like their ankles, necks, and under their stomachs. This\nMust have been the effect of my new new passive skill Weakpoint Recognition. I knew that this would definitely come in handy with my chosen sytle of combat.
I took a deep breath before firing at the section of the Agony Hound that I was looking at.
With only one shot, I was able to cause the Agony Hound to fall onto the ground. Then I quickly exchanged the cartridge of the bullet that I had fired for the next one. As soon as I had exchanged out the bullet that was in the chamber of my sniper rifle, I took a deep breath and then fired another shot at the Agony Hound that Sophitia was not attacking.
I shot this one directly in the neck and it fell to the ground lifeless. Then I prepared to exchange my bullets out, but as I did , the bodies of the two that I had killed vanished. They turned into red balls of energy that were absorbed by the final Agony Hound.
After that, the final agony hound got three times as large and I was unsure how we were going to defeat this final Agony Hound.
If they could evolve by absorbing the essence of their own species , I knew that taking down this one would not be an easy task.
How could Sophitia with her energy rifle, and me with my sniper rifle and new passive skill defeat such a monster?
