The crowd parted, making way for Ren and the others as they entered the shabby-looking house.
Ren walked in, his eyes immediately falling on the old woman lying on the bed. She was asleep—or so he thought.
The young lady continued sobbing beside him as Ren gently approached the woman and sat down next to her. The old woman didn't stir as Ren pressed his fingers to her wrist, feeling for a pulse.
Ren tried to sense something—anything—but he couldn't. He wasn't sure if it was because he had lost his powers or because the woman simply had no pulse to find.
He tried again and again, but nothing. The beast babies gathered around, watching him curiously. Zuran stood by the doorway, observing in silence. The young lady stood nearby, her eyes filled with desperate hope.
Ren took his time, but after a long while, he still couldn't do anything. The woman wasn't responding. And then, the truth echoed through his mind: She's dead.
