It had been six months since the Blue Screen of Rebirth.

To the rest of the world, the Great Harvest was nothing more than a collective hallucination, a Mass Hysteria Event that psychologists and conspiracy theorists would argue over for decades.

People woke up, the towers were gone, and life resumed its mundane, grinding pace.

Han Jin was currently standing in the kitchen of a small, second-floor apartment he had rented with the money from three different part-time jobs.

Retirement, it turned out, was expensive.

"The heat is wrong," Han Jin muttered, staring at a pan of sizzling pork belly.

He didn't have the Emperor's Kitchen interface anymore.

He didn't have the Dragon Bone Cleaver.

He was using a $15 knife from a supermarket and a stove that hummed with a slight gas leak.

He closed his eyes, focusing on the vibration of the pan.

He wasn't looking for a stat boost; he was looking for the intent.

He adjusted the flame by a fraction of a millimeter, his hand moving with a precision that no Mortal should possess.

Sizzle.

The aroma changed.

It wasn't just cooked meat; it was the scent of a memory.

"Better," a voice said from the doorway.

Lin Xi stood there, leaning against the frame. She was wearing a simple oversized sweater and jeans, her hair tied back.

She looked like a normal college student, but the way she moved...silent, balanced, and watchful betrayed her.

"The GAB is being reorganized," she said, walking over to the table.

"They're calling it the Global Strategic Defense Initiative now.

They think they're in charge again."

"They're children playing with wooden swords," Han Jin replied, plating the pork. "Did they find the Residuals?"

Lin Xi nodded gravely.

"In three cities.

Small pockets where the System logic didn't fully uninstall.

In Seattle, a man found a Heal skill that actually works.

In Beijing, a basement is still 10% larger on the inside than the outside."

"The Developer's trash bin," Han Jin mused. "He didn't empty it.

He just hid it."

He sat down across from her.

"And the message?"

Lin Xi pulled out her phone.

It was a standard model, but the screen was currently displaying a flickering, golden icon that didn't belong to any OS.

"It appeared an hour ago.

It's not from the Developer.

The signature is... older."

She tapped the icon.

A single line of text appeared, written in a language that shouldn't exist on Earth...the True Script of the Ninth Heaven.

[THE CROWN IS VACANT.

THE SECOND BETA BEGINS IN 30 DAYS.]

Han Jin's chopsticks paused mid-air.

The gold in his eyes, which had been dormant for months, flared into life.

"They aren't restoring Earth," Han Jin whispered.

"They're Upgrading the players.

The first Harvest was just to clear the server. The Second Beta... that's when the real competition arrives."

"Competitors?" Lin Xi asked.

"From where?"

"Other worlds," Han Jin said.

"The Ninth Heaven wasn't the only universe that got deleted, Lin Xi.

There are other Legacy Files out there. Other Emperors.

Other monsters.

And now, the Administrator is inviting us all to the same map."

Suddenly, the floor of the apartment vibrated.

A soft clink sounded from Han Jin's pocket.

He reached in and pulled out a small, rusted piece of wire.

The Rusty Paperclip.

It wasn't a System item anymore.

It didn't have a blue description box.

But it was glowing with a faint, steady pulse of light.

It was linking to something far above the atmosphere.

[BING!]

The sound was different this time.

It wasn't a digital chime.

It sounded like a bell tolling in a distant temple.

[New Season Initialized: THE MULTIVERSE WAR.]

[Your Rank: Unranked (Legacy Status).]

[First Objective: Survive the Transfer Student.]

There was a knock at the apartment door.

Han Jin stood up, the kitchen knife in his hand feeling suddenly heavier, its edge sharpening through pure willpower.

He walked to the door and looked through the peephole.

Standing in the hallway was a girl.

She looked about sixteen, wearing a foreign school uniform, carrying a violin case.

She looked perfectly normal, except for one thing: her shadow on the hallway floor had eight wings and was holding a flaming sword.

She looked directly into the peephole and smiled.

"Is the God-Emperor home?" she asked, her voice echoing in Han Jin's mind.

"I'm here to audit your reality."

Han Jin turned the lock.

"Lin Xi, put the pork in the fridge.

We're going to have company."
