Chapter 13 - Avians.

I finished gathering my thoughts just ar the sun began to ride. "Tenka, its time to switch, I'm tired." I said whilst yawning. "Okay." He said while walking to the front of the wagon. I slept next to the eggs and I got some good rest, because I now know what I need to do. "I need to find out my origins." I thought to myself. "This can help me realize if I can truly gain more power." I thought as I rode.

After about 6 hours had passed, we had finally reached the gate to the capital.

"We're finally here!" The caravan leader yelled excitedly, relieved to finally have safety. "Tenka, it's time to wake up." I said. He awoke and sat next to me. After the merchant group got through, it was our turn to enter.

I gave the guard our papers and he asked to see our baggage. I didn't want to reveal the cockatoo eggs, so I paid him 50 silver. "We only have luggage." I said with a scheming smile whilst handing him the money. "I see. All clear!" He yelled to the inside.

The gate was opened and we finally entered the capital. Tenka and I rode around for a bit just looking around at all of the city streets. We found a house to rent for 20 silver a month, which is definitely pricey. I paid for the first month and then we unloaded our gear into the house. We put our wagon and horses in the back and then we unloaded the eggs and put them inside of the house.

We lit the fireplace and put the eggs near them, so that they could stay warm. About 2 eggs had fallen off of the wagon, but shockingly there was no cracks on them. "The shell must be hard." I thought as I recalled that memory. I went inside of the slave market once again, and Tenka stayed at the house. "I need someone to guard the eggs." I said to Tenka as my reasoning to buy another slave.

I looked around their slave market and I found another slave that caught my eye. They have darker skin and they also had pointed ears. "A dark elf?!" The surrounding people said in surprise. I guess that subspecies of elf isn't common. The bid started at 1 gold, and it shot up quickly. "5 gold!" Someone shouted. "15 gold" another yelled. "50 gold!" A wealthy man said. "1 platinum." I said with a plotting smile. "I'm going to drive the price up a notch for this wealthy man." I thought. What is didn't expect was for him to not bid any higher. "Sold!" The auctioner said as I stood in shock. I was interested in the slave I won't lie, but 1 platinum?! That's almost 20% of my total wealth?

I took her after I paid and I asked for her name. "Arwen." She said weakly. "My name is Arwen." We went back into the house and I introduced her to Tenka. "Hello." Tenka said awkwardly. "Hi." Arwen said shyly. "Arwen, do you know how to care for animals?" I asked, getting straight to the point. "No." She said. This made my face dropped uncontrollably. "Okay." I said whilst sighing. "Tenka, take her to a local library and have her learn about care for avians, judt buy the book if possible." I said. "Really? Now?" He said unhappy. It was almost night, so I understood his worries.

"Fine. You both can go tomorrow morning after breakfast." I said to both of them. She was shocked, because getting breakfast was a luxury for a slave, especially a dark elf which is the lowest of the elves. Purebred elves are easily worth 50 platinum, but obviously none are slaves.

We all slept, with each of us having our own separate room. When I awoke, I smelled a very delightful smell. I went to the kitchen to see Arwen cooking some pancakes with bacon. "Where did you get ingredients?" I said with surprise. "Tenka took me in the morning before you awoke. Tenka was asleep in the couch in the corner of the room.

"Tenka, it's time to eat." I said as I received a generous player of food. I knew it was safe because Arwen can't hurt me because of the slave contract that I received when I bought her. We all ate and then Tenka and Arwen left for the library. "Make sure to also but a blank book!" I called out to them as I left.

I stayed at the house and I watched over the eggs. I was writing in my journal when all of a sudden, I heard one of the eggs begin to twitch. I stood up immediately and moved to the egg. It started to shake wildly and then the shell broke. The fluid leaked all around the wood, and then a cockatoo chick hatched. The baby, as big as my torso, looked up at me like I was it's mother. "Imprinting" I thought when I saw it. I got a cloth out of my black box and then I put the chick on it. It cooed and slept, tired from breaking the tough shell.

When Tenka and Arwen returned, I told them of the news. "That's incredible!" Tenka said with joy. "Mabye we really can ride a bird of our own!" Tenka said happily. Arwen seemed focused of the book however. "They need vegetables." Arwen said looking at the book. "Or atleast the normal sized ones do." Arwen continued. We bought some vegetables and tried to feed it to the cockatoo. "It needs to be mashed up so its safer to consume." Arwen said when Tenka and I tried shoving a carrot in the birds mouth.

I bought a food mallet to grind the food. We fed it to the cockatoo and they ate it. Just as we shared a moment of joy, the other eggs all began to shake and thrash wildly.
