Cherreads

Chapter 14 - Caretaker.

All at once, the eggs hatched, and out came 19 more cockatoo chicks. "Separate them now!" Arwen yelled with slight panic. "Okay." I said even thought I didn't understand why. "They tend to bite playfully, but if they bite eachother they can be a real issue." Arwen said after the eggs got separated.

"So what do we do now?" Tenka asked curiously. "Cockatoo chicks will stick to their family like glue, so they are very attached to their owner which they see as their mother." Arwen replied. I took 4 chick's and put them in my pockets. "Tenka, take 4 chick's with you." I said. I wanted to lessen the burden on Arwen, since she will have to care for the other 12 chucks by herself.

"Okay." Tenka said slightly displeased. He took 4 and then we went out to buy some new clothes. I was the only person with proper clothes, so Tenka and I went to buy clothes for himself and Arwen. Tenka picked a nice black dress shirt and sleek black pants. We also went and bought a new black cane looking staff for Tenka to use.

"You look like a magician." I said. "I've always been one?" Tenka replied confused. I forgot that they don't know about magicians from Earth, who used cheap parlor tricks compared to the real magic of this world.

We then went into a nearby store to buy clothes for Arwen. When we walked in, we saw many feminine clothes like bras and undergarments. "Let's have Arwen pick something out later." I said trying to leave the store hastily. Tenka nodded in agreement.

Tenka then left back to the house. I went to the main castle, since I need to find out my true origins. After about 20 minutes of walking, I saw a spectacular sight. A massive castle walls hundreds of feet high which left me stunned. I went up to the gate and I asked to enter. "You need a proper letter to enter." The guard said.

"I need to find out about my family, if I have any." I said confidently. "Meet with the royal scribe." He replied. "You can meet him of you pay a fee." He said. "How much?" I asked. "10 gold." He said with a smirk. "Done." I said as I pulled out 10 gold from my box. He looked stunned. He still called out people from inside to open the gate. I entered and he walked me to the waiting room.

After about an hour of waiting, the man I had been waiting for entered. "I am the royal scribe." He said arrogantly. "Okay." I replied unamused. "Can you tell me about my family?" I asked getting to the point. "Sure." He said. "Which family are you from?" He asked withna slight hint of curiosity. "I am Centi van Ince of the Ince family." I said confidently. He looked at his scrolls and found the one labeled Ince and he opened it.

When he opened it, his facial expression quicklyturnedinto one of surprise. "The INCE family? He said flabbergasted. "Yes." I said, shocked at his expression. "That family has fallen a decade ago. Only their son was left alive!" He said shocked. "That's me" I said, acting like I knew this all along. "You need land I presume?" He asked frustratedly. "Not particularly, but it would be greatly appreciated." I said with slight shock.

"It will cost you about 3 platinum to even get started on making a new territory." He said. "I see. I'll come back when I have at least 29 platinum." I replied with a clear goal in my mind. As I was about to leave, he stopped me. "Take my card." He said with curiosity. "If you don't end up making that money, let me know, I have some connections to get you the land you need." He continued.

"Will do." I said whilst taking his card. He probably wants to get brownie points for the offchance that I succeed. I went back to the house and I told them the news. "That's not too surprising." Tenka said. "I thought it was odd that you were a noble but you had nobody as a servant." He continued. "So what do we need to do?" Arwen said. "We need money. Lots of it." I said. "We need 20 platinum by the time the cockatoo chicks mature." I said boldly. "That gives us about 3 years." Tenka said with worry in his eyes. "You only made like 20 gold within 7 years!" Tenka said with anxiety. How can we get 100 times that in 5 years?!" Tenka said with fear.

"We will do what we can." I said. As I tried to think of a plan, night fell. Arwen and Tenka went to a local tavern to eat as I made a plan. I let them go so I could watch the cockatoo chicks. When they came back, I left to eat myself. As I ate, I remembered what that guild receptionist told me years ago. That war gives many rewards. I steeled my mind. Tenka and I were going to war.
