Esme's POV
I had a short nap on Ruby's bed after our argument.
My fear and confusion had completely faded. Truly, I had to solve everything with a nap.
Sanya hadn't reacted when Ruby got mad, so he wasn't going to hurt me. As I should've expected.
I looked into the cage.
"He is gone!" I sat up on the bed. Had Ruby taken him to the Duke? Or to a worse fate? "Eidr—" I stopped myself. I shouldn't let the rest know what happened or that the Duke could be in danger.
"Finally, you're beginning to understand your impact on the balance that needs to be maintained."
"Please, speak clearly. I help the brothers remain stable, but I don't owe the Disciples balance. I just don't want the brothers hurt."
"That is what I say. If the brothers are stable, then they will keep the balance between the Disciples. The Disciples have more to lose than the brothers do."
