Lumiere's POV
The night was unbearably quiet.
I flipped through the book accounting for past Blood-Hounds that served the kingdom and confirmed for the third time that the line had been discontinued.
The title of Royal General ended with Katherine Lorraine after her death. Her daughter never inherited the wolf, and I could confirm it.
"This is foolish." I slapped the book closed and tossed it onto the other piles. I could recite them word for word with how much I had read them.
I reached for my pillow, gripping the soft fabric lightly. Could I be missing something? I shifted the red curtains over the window and stepped back, watching the room engulf itself in a light red hue.
That made it easier to think. I fell onto the bed.
"If she left for a normal life, why did she engage in martial arts?" I stared at the last book I had read. "Wasn't that Uncle's reason for taking her—because the life of a royal warrior was too dangerous?"
