I'm Tyler Riggs, and Gol D Roger was my grandfather, dying waaay before I was born. My father and I were flat broke. My dad worked as a fisherman, and I was sold to a pirate crew to work as a chore boy.
Eurghh… that job was really loathsome. I had to wash the dirty laundry, scrub the grimy floors, massage their sore covered feet and clean the stench filled toilets.
The crew, the Alveolar Pirates, were well known in our parts, looting and pillaging islands. It wasn't really the best part of my life… until I met a certain someone.
Junior Shadoworth was a fellow chore boy and we did our work together. Secretly, we devised plans to escape from the ship. His plans were to become a marine soldier, capture Captain Aveola and become an admiral. My dream was to follow in my grandfather's footsteps and become the greatest pirate ever known. I also intend on finding his treasure. Despite our differences, we were friends.
On the planned escape day, the pirate crew stopped at an island while Junior and I cleaned the deck. From the island I heard shouts and whoops. Captain Aveola and her right hand man were holding one small chest each.
After the crew got back on the ship and we were done with our chores, we asked Captain Aveola for our lunch as she promised. But she didn't tell us to get our food as usual; instead she scoffed and said, "There ain't no food for you, scurvy dogs. Look at this measly scrubbing ya did! Get outta m'sight!!"
Just then , out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of the pirates carrying the two small chests to the kitchen belowdecks. I whispered to Junior to help follow the crew mate to the kitchen.
He agreed, and when no one was looking we snuck downstairs. We saw the pirate enter the kitchen and close the door. Half a minute later he came out and eyed us suspiciously. "Just getting our food", I said, and he grunted and went upstairs.
Junior and I hurried into the kitchen. There weren't even any foodstuffs or ingredients! We turned the kitchen upside down but found nothing. Then I started to leave, and a tile creaked under my foot. I knelt down and tapped it with my fingers…
…And it lifted. I saw the two chests in a hollow spot under the tiles. Junior hurried over and knelt beside me. We pulled out the chests and opened them.
Inside lay one fruit each. One was colored sunset orange in the shape of an orange with black leaves. The other was in a pear shaped yellow fruit with golden leaves.
I grabbed the orange one and started munching on it. Junior took the yellow fruit and ate that one as well. "Let's put the chests back and get out of here.
With that, we went above decks.
