Chapter 13 - The Demon Zovias

The reincarnation warden appeared in the orbit of Zaya's planet. He looked down onto the land to see if any damage had occurred yet.

"Kaelthyr", he said. An old man in a green cloak appeared before him. He had a staff in his hand and a green cloth covering his eyes.

He was an old man, that looked to be in his late sixties. He had long white hair and a long white beard to match.

He got on one knee and said, "I greet the Warden of the Cosmos, -------." The reincarnation warden's name was unable to leave Kaelthyr's mouth.

Only those that had been told the name by the reincarnation warden could hear it and since there were individuals watching on, the name was silenced.

"Get up" the reincarnation warden said, "We don't have time for greetings, there are more pressing issues."

Kaelthyr got to his feet, "I understand. The situation hasn't changed much, the only issue is that the seal has been broken", he said.

"Well, it has been one thousand years since you sealed the demon and took your post as a protector of this world."

"And I am eternally grateful for what you did for me but it's at times like this when I wish I was still mortal", Kaelthyr said.

"Don't worry, that's why I'm here. Now where is the demon anyway." The reincarnation warden was scanning the surface of the planet but couldn't detect the demon.

"He seems to have set up a barrier, so that he can recover his power. It will still take him years to get to his original strength so it shouldn't be too much of an issue to eliminate him", Kaelthyr said.

"Understood. Set up a barrier around his, so that the rest of the world won't be aware of our fight." The reincarnation warden opened a portal with his staff and went through.

"Understood sir. Good luck in your battle, even though you won't need it." Kaelthyr raise his staff in his hand and started chanting.

The reincarnation warden walked out the other side of the portal and appeared in mid-air above a small island surrounded by crashing waves.

There was a rock formation in the centre of the island that led to underground caverns. A glowing light appeared under the cloth that is covering the reincarnation warden's eyes.

He then looked below the rock formations and could see a figure sitting and gathering energy from the surroundings.

An invisible barrier manifested over the reincarnation warden and the island, "I guess Kaelthyr is finished. I should greet the unwanted guest then."

He raised his staff and chanted, "Ignis Saxum." A giant boulder of molten rock appeared in the sky and came crashing down on the island.

Once the smoke settled, the crater that was left behind started to be filled by the ocean's waves.

"Come on out demon, I know you're not dead." The reincarntaion warden could see the figure floating under the water.

He heard a maniacal laugh as the demon emerged from the water. He had a red skin and horns that came from his forehead.

The horns and all other protection on his body was hardened and purple in colour. His tongue was split at the end and long like a snakes.

He had a crazy smile on his face and dark black eyes. He had taken no damage from the 'greeting' attack from the reincarnation warden.

"It's been so long since I was free and what greets me but a mage, just like the one who put me away."

"I'll be kind and warn you first, I'm nothing like the mage you faced before", the reincarnation warden said.

"Hoh, so you know that old man then. How is Kaelthyr? Does he still have the wounds from or last battle", the demon said while laughing out loud.

Kaelthyr appeared next to the reincarnation warden, "I'm right here Zovias, you bastard." The reincarnation looked to his right, displeased at Kaelthyr' arrival.

"You do know you can't get involved in this fight, right. It goes against you contract with the universe", he looked at Kaelthyr for a response.

"I know, I just wanted to see this guy before he died. We did fight each other for many years, so he's somewhat a rival to me."

"What are you two mumbling to yourselves about. If you want to keep talking, involve me", Zovias said as he launched a beam of purple energy from his hand.

The reincarnation warden raised his hand and stopped the beam of energy, before crushing it by closing his hand into a fist.

"Interesting", Zovias said. He was more intrigued that the reincarnation warden had destroyed his powers than afraid.

Kaelthyr looked at Zovias, "Enjoy the afterlife, if you get there that is", he said as he disappeared just as quickly as he appeared.

"Damn coward!", Zovias shouted. He refocused on the reincarnation warden in front of him, "I'll kill you first", he said.

"You can try", the reincarnation warden replied. He raised his staff into the air and chanted in an unknown language to Zovias.

'What the hell is he doing', Zovias thought to himself. 'It doesn't matter, I'll stop him before he can continue further.

Before Zovias could approach the reincarnation warden a giant cyclone surrounded him. It sucked him into the centre and wouldn't allow him to move.

The force of the air was too strong and make it impossible for Zovias to move freely. The reincarnation warden appeared at the top of the eye and lowered his staff.

He chanted again and a lightning bolt came down from the sky and struck Zovias on the head.

Zovias writhed in pain but then released a wave of energy in anger to break the magic. The reincarnation warden could only use lower-level magic compared to what he could do.

This was so that he didn't destroy the world with his spell. He could easily destroy Zovias right away, but that would negatively affect fate, and he is here to correct fate.

Zovias was patting after releasing the energy wave as he hadn't regained much of his power back yet and now, he had to use most of it to escape the spell.

The reincarnation warden lowered down from the sky and floated in front of Zovias, "If you surrender now, I'll let you go painlessly."

"Surrender. I have never surrendered and I'm not going to start today." Zovias charged at the reincarnation warden as he couldn't use big magical attacks, so he was going for close combat.

The reincarnation warden watched as Zovias approached him in almost slow motion. He lowered his wand and not one, but five lightning bolts came down from the sky.

As they travelled to their intended target, they changed colour from a white light to a dark blue and black light.

Each lightning bolt hit Zovias and he screamed out in pain. Zovias's body crash landed in the shallow waters near land.

He tried to get to his feet, but the reincarnation warden landed on the water in front of him and exerted gravitational pressure on him to lower him to his hands and knees.

Zovias used all his might to look up at the reincarnation warden, "Just kill me and get it over with", he said.

The reincarnation warden opened his free hand, and a giant black scythe appeared. He grabbed it and looked down at Zovias.
