Chapter 14 - Mana (1)

Zovias looked at the giant scythe in the reincarnation warden's hand and lowered his head accepting his fate.

The reincarnation warden put the scythe against Zovias's neck. "Hear me demon, today I relieve you of your sins and past discretions."

"I will allow to be born a new in the cycle of life and for you to have a life shy of misfortune and tragedy."

The reincarnation warden raised up the scythe and then lowered with great speed and force towards Zovias's neck.

Before Zovias could even close his eyes, his head was lying in the water. The reincarnation warden shook the blood off the blade and then it disappeared.

Zovias's body started to turn to dust as his being was destroyed and his soul cleansed to go back into the reincarnation cycle.

Kaelthyr appeared before the reincarnation warden and released the barrier around the area. He raised his arms and the waves calmed, the land returned to the way it was and the island was restored.

"I'll be leaving then. Do try and take better care of this world. I can't keep having to come clean up the mess", the reincarnation warden said.

"I understand sir." Kaelthyr didn't know whether to take the reincarnation warden's words as humorous or serious.

A portal appeared in front of the reincarnation warden and he left. Kaelthyr looked out at the island, "Goodbye Zovias", he said before disappearing.

Back at Sienna's house, Zaya was lying down and resting after learning and performing the elemental spells.

She lay down gazing at the ceiling thinking about the magic and how it felt using it. She thought about all the other spells se could use in the future.

"Zaya, food is ready", Sienna shouted. Zaya jumped up and went to eat. Their daily life together was getting more fulfilling.

It used to be just getting food and necessities and playing with some friends in the village, but now Zaya's extra time in the afternoon's would be dedicated to magic practice and learning.

After playing with Willow and James, Zaya would come home and practice the spells with Sienna.

Sienna had made her practice them one at a time, so she wouldn't get tired from overexertion.

Zaya practiced for 2 hours a day, for the next couple weeks before Sienna decided it was time to teach her more.

After practice, Sienna sat Zaya down, "Well done, Zaya. You have been practicing diligently these past few weeks."

"I've decided it time to teach you about how you are manifesting magic and the mana we use to create magic", Sienna said.

Zaya sat up straight and focused. "The way us mages use magic is by utilising the mana, that we store in our bodies naturally, and manifesting the magic into reality."

"We get mana from nature and the world around us on a daily basis. We can naturally absorb it but there are also methods that mages use to absorb it forcefully."

"The problem with natural absorption is that we can only hold as much many as we were born with, but with forceful absorption we can change that", Sienna explained.

"Lucky for you Zaya, you already have a big natural pool of mana and are able to use many spells before tiring."

"But for some mages, they only have a limited natural mana pool and need to expand it to use bigger and more powerful spells."

"Natural mana is stored in your heart, but forced mana is stored in pockets in your body that orbit your heart." Sienna raised her hand and a 3D diagram showed up in front of her.

It showed the heart of a person and then spheres rotating around it. In the diagram there were five spheres.

"These spheres are the pockets that mages create to store mana. Instead of allowing the mana to flow into their hearts they force it into these spheres which are made of mana."

"Theoretically the more spheres one has the more mana they have and therefore the stronger they are but that isn't necessarily true as one's natural capacity needs to be taking into account along with their proficiency in magic."

Zaya sat in her chair looking at the diagram and processing the information that was being given to her by Sienna.

Sienna noticed that Zaya was still trying to wrap her head around everything, "I know it's a lot to take in but as you continue down the path of magic you will need to know about all of this, so it's better to know now, then find out later", she said.

"I'll now show you how mages create these spheres and how they force the natural mana into the spheres."

Sienna got up and walked around to behind Zaya. "Now close your eyes and imagine the mana that is in your heart."

Zaya closed her eyes and focused on where she thought the mana was in her heart. She saw a white and blue light floating in her body, "I found it", she said.

"Good, now focus on the mana I am going to flow into your body. Follow it as it flows throughout your body and goes into your heart."

Zaya focused and saw a light enter her shoulder, go down both sides of her chest and then turn and become part of the light in her heart.

As she was focusing, she saw small particles of light entering all parts of her body and flow in the same direction.

All the particles made there way to her heart and made the light in her heart slightly bigger and brighter.

"I saw the light that you put in but I also saw some other particles flowing into my body", Zaya said, while opening her eyes and turning to look at Sienna.

"Good. That was the natural mana that exists in the world, naturally entering your body and increasing your mana", Sienna said.

"Now you need to keep sensing that mana and focus on it and try and force it onto a different path that doesn't go to your heart but a small open space around your heart."

Zaya closed her eyes again and focused on the particles. "You won't be able to get it first try but just try and see what you can do", Sienna said.

Zaya watched the particles flow from all directions and decided to focuses on the ones entering her hand.

They would all go up her arm and then down her chest towards her heart, but she tried to block the path to the heart and force them into a different route.

The particles resisted against her blockade and broke through and continued their journey to the heart.

Zaya opened her eyes, huffing and puffing and covered in sweat. Sienna handed her a cloth to wipe the sweat away.

"Don't worry, it takes time to get the hang of it. Why don't you take a break and try again later", Sienna said.

Zaya nodded and got up to get some water to drink and cool herself down and rehydrate herself.
