Selene spent those days wandering the capital, gathering information, listening to gossip in taverns where castle servants drank after their shifts. She learned more about the kitchen hierarchy, about Berta's temper, about which servants were miserable and which ones loved their jobs despite the hard work.
She also learned that the castle was in complete chaos. Three kitchen maids quitting in one week had thrown everything into disorder. Meals were being served late, mistakes were happening, and the head cook was apparently making everyone's life miserable because of it.
