Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Salvation

"What the fuck is going on, why am I back here?!" Shouted Emilia

"I was about to start my car, and I'm back here? H… How?? Why?? How is this even possible? Sebastian, what happened? Followed Kat while also screaming.

Matthew stopped screaming, went completely silent and felt a little embarrassed for screaming, thinking he somehow imagined leaving Sebastian's room since he didn't get far from his room before getting sent back.

He then heard everyone else shouting and confused, so he resumed screaming.

Sebastian was the most confused of all. His friends who had left his room had seemingly appeared out of thin air right next to him.

After a minute of incoherent rambling and the group pacing back and forth around the room, the hospital staff came into the room and told them rather rudely to knock it off.

That seemed to calm the group down and they just sat there in silence without speaking a word to each other.

In this silence Sebastian collected his thoughts and tried to figure out what had just happened.

He remembered having thought to himself that he was happy his friends were with him, and he grew even more confused.

"Did that make them come back? I can't be dreaming, this is real, and they're back in my room." He thought in a frenzy.

Suddenly his mind went back to the weird dream he had.

"Did it have anything to do with that dream?" He kept thinking. "What did that thing mean by seeing the truth?" What even is the truth? Are they telling the truth?" He kept thinking to no avail.

He thought for a moment about what had led him to the hospital then dropped it because of how outrageous it would be.

His thoughts were interrupted by Emilia breaking the silence.

"Sebastian, tell us how we're back in this place." she said in a serious voice.

"I don't know," he answered.

"Bullshit!" She shouted back at him.

"How the hell am I supposed to know?!" He screamed at her.

"Calm down, please." said Kat.

"Do you not understand what just happened?!" Emily shouted at Kat, getting angrier.

Kat flinched at Emily's aggression, then with a defeated expression on her face, looked to the floor.

Matthew was staring blankly at the wall in front of him as he tried to make heads or tails of the whole situation.

Then Sebastian had a sudden idea.

"Go back to where you were." He thought as he looked at his friends.

Nothing happened.

He felt relieved, yet confused as to how they got there in the first place.

Still, he kept trying to make them go away with his mind, however all of his attempts were futile.

All the while Emily was still shouting at him, demanding answers that Sebastian didn't have.

"Where were you, Sebastian?" Interrupted Matthew.

"You said you were in some sort of field before you blacked out. What kind of field was it?"

"It was completely empty aside from this one tree." He answered truthfully.

Matthew went pale after hearing that.

"Okay… now tell me, how long did you walk after you left the apartment complex?"

"I don't remember. All I remember was looking out to the sunset."

"S- Sebastian… you walked out at roughly 4:30." He said with a shaking voice.

"So? What about it?" Sebastian answered, genuinely intrigued as to where Matthew was getting to.

"You couldn't have walked for more than 3 hours yet you say you were in an empty field..?"

"Yeah, I was completely lost, I couldn't even see any buildings either."

"Sebastian." He paused for a moment, shaking even more.

"Sebastian, there isn't any possible way for you to find a field so far away from here that you get lost."

"Well I did, and I got lost."

"Are you stupid?!" He shouted at Sebastian while bending down towards him.

"Do you not understand what I'm saying, Sebastian? That field you were in, it can't exist. There aren't any empty fields for miles, and even so you can still see buildings from that distance."

"What does that mean then?" Sebastian asked, now even more curious.

"You idiot! That "field" you were in doesn't even exist. It's physically impossible to be where you were. Are you sure you weren't drunk or on drugs or something?"

Sebastian went pale as soon as he heard that.

"Do you understand it now? First you go somewhere that can't even be real, then you're found passed out nowhere near the place you mentioned, you said you got sick from eating something and nearly died. Sebastian, something happened to you. I have no idea what, but you, or something related to you managed to take us back here."

"Matthew, that doesn't make any sense. How can anyone walk into a place that doesn't exist?" Kat chimed in.

"Then how on earth can you explain what just happened? All three of us got sent back into this room at the same time. I don't know about you but that doesn't just happen to people. Ever." Said Matthew in a calm yet imposing voice.

"I.. I don't know."

While all of this happened, Sebastian's body began to fill with dread, just as he had felt when he sat by the tree in the field.

As his friends argued and theorized how this seemingly impossible event just happened, Sebasian felt the edges of his vision grow black and his body become heavier.

"This can't be happening." He thought as he looked at his trembling hands once more.

"This isn't real, I must be dreaming, that's it. The field, the tree, this hospital, none of it is real. My friends are probably sleeping right now and I'm in my apartment too."

The second he thought of that, he found himself in the living room of his apartment.

It took a moment for him to process what had just happened, and when he understood his situation, he sat down on his chair and broke down.

"This isn't real. This can't be real. I did that. I brought my friends back to the hospital room. I brought myself here. It was me. I did this."

He started to laugh, he laughed uncontrollably, he laughed like a mad man, alone in his living room as the reality of what was happening set in.

It took nearly half an hour for him to calm down, but when he did, he simply stood up and looked out at the sky.

A single tear ran down his face as he saw the moon. It was a full moon that night, and the beauty of it moved Sebastian to tears.

After staring at the sky for a while, Sebastian filled himself with courage then looked at his hands again.

Time seemed to freeze for Sebastian as though he was the only important thing in the entire world at that moment.

He started shaking, took a deep breath, and fully convinced of knowing what was going to happen next, he said out loud: "I am in the hospital room."

Before he could realize it, he was standing in the room he had left nearly an hour earlier, with Emilia and Matthew still there, looking at him as if they were looking at a strange animal or an alien.

Sebastian couldn't help but laugh a bit more when he saw he actually did get sent into that room.

He saw his friends looking at him in utter disbelief and asked where Kat was.

Emilia, still in shock, told Sebastian that she went to look for him after he suddenly disappeared from his bed.

"It's okay." He said in an unusually calm voice.

"You don't have to worry about me anymore."

He looked at his hands again and said confidently: "Me and my friends are in my apartment."

He came back to where he was a moment before, however without his friends.

This made him panic, thinking he had made his friends somehow disappear, so he immediately went back to the hospital and calmed down once he saw them.

Not knowing what was happening to him anymore made Sebastian become anxious once again.

"Please, go back home." He said to his friends, in a serious tone. He felt mad at himself now.

"The hell we are! You need to tell us what's happening right now!" Matthew told him.

"I don't know. I'm going home, I'll tell you tomorrow." He answered, then disappeared a final time.

Back in his apartment, Sebastian felt unnaturally exhausted, so much so that he immediately threw himself on his couch and fell into a deep sleep.
