As Sebastian stood atop the highest building in the city, he felt nothing but ecstasy and a certain feeling of delirium.
He stood with his still crying eyes, watching the city and everyone below. Everyone that stood below himself.
He thought of the lives of everyone in the world, thought about how insignificant they were when seen through the perspective of every living human being.
"I thank you for this." He whispered to the sky. His voice started to shake as the silent tears kept coming from him
"I can finally live," he got on his knees and knelt down to everything below. "I bow down to you, to all the suffering of humanity."
Sebastian flew one last time towards the sky as far as he could before leaving the confines of Earth, he saw the sky disappearing and turning into a black void, then he let himself fall.
What he felt then was a high that not even the strongest substances could replicate on a human. The wind brushing through every part of him as he fell from the heavens back down into the world of men made him feel truly free.
The ground approached him quickly, every passing second he could see the bustling city and its lights grow closer. He saw people and cars grow bigger and bigger as he fell to certain death and as if testing the limits of his own mortality, he let himself go until he barely touched the ground.
The people walking on the street gasped in awe as they saw a human being fall from above the clouds and shoot up in a flash the very second he was about to be splattered on the ground.
Before they could process or react to what happened, the mysterious figure, Sebastian, had already disappeared far beyond what their eyes could see.
Sebastian disappeared into the clouds again where no one on earth could even come to close him. He then spoke and found himself back in his apartment.
As soon as he got back, he let go of his flight and his feet touched the ground once more.
Sebastian looked around and as if nothing happened, calmly and quietly started to make food for himself and got ready to go to bed.
He took out some frozen food from his fridge and went to reheat it. He found the food he had left behind when he went back to the hospital. He had forgotten it there.
Disgust coursed through his body as he saw the food, finding it horrible to throw it away even if it was slightly unappetizing.
Sebastian heated it up again and ate it, not feeling much of anything while doing so, he then brushed his teeth and went to bed after fiddling around on his phone again.
Some time after Sebastian fell asleep, he suddenly woke up, he wasn't in his bed however, not the one in his apartment at least.
He gained consciousness and immediately knew what was happening, he felt his face go pale even though it hadn't really happened.
His heart sank into his stomach as he looked at where he was. It was a room he knew all too well.
It wasn't big nor was it small either, it was covered in white paint and had a colorful desk made for a child with a window next to it and a bed that would be best used for two people placed to the left of a closet.
In that bed laid Sebastian, staring blankly at the ceiling after finding out he was there.
"Out of everywhere it had to be here, of course it is, of course I'm in this damn place."
He stood up and looked at the ceiling and stared out into the void, however he didn't feel anything stare back.
Recalling his previous lucid dream, he tried grabbing something to break the window and get out of that place, except when he tried to break it, his body felt as if he were under water and couldn't move properly.
"This is just great, trapping me in my own mind again is just wonderful." He said spitefully and loud enough to try and get the attention of anyone who might be nearby.
He took a deep breath and signed, then reluctantly walked out of that room.
Sebastian found himself in a hallway with 2 connecting rooms to it, but he didn't pay attention to any of them, instead he decisively walked to the end and found an empty living room.
He felt angry at the sight of it, knowing he swore never to come back to that wretched place ever again.
He then opened the door that would've led to the outside, however he was met with a familiar face. It was his own.
"What the hell do you want now, you damn demon?" Sebastian cried.
"Mind yourself, that's a harsh word you know?" Answered the reflection in a slightly angered tone.
"Shut up. Why am I here?"
"You let your anger consume you that easily? You can ask anything else you would most definitely want to know yet you choose to insult me, or yourself."
"Screw you, just cut to the chase, what are you going to say to me?"
"I wanted to ask you if you were enjoying your life, now that the truth is yours."
"The truth?" Sebastian felt his heart sink even deeper.
"I told you, didn't I? The last time we spoke. Now answer my question. I asked first after all.
"You mean.. that ability I have. You gave it to me didn't you?"
The reflection stared blankly at him, neither confirming nor denying his question.
Sebastian clicked his tongue in anger and stared back at it for a moment, then spoke.
"Why didn't my friends come back with me to my apartment? I spoke the words correctly, didn't I?"
"To find the truth within someone, your soul must connect with them, open a window for it and their truths will be your own.
"Oh my God, what does that even mean? Do I look in the mood for solving your damn puzzles right now?"
The reflection gave Sebastian a serious look which made him freeze.
Sebastian was about to insult the reflection again but fearing losing control of his body like last time he decided to ask more questions.
"Well, what can I use this power for? Will you take it away from me if I piss you off?"
"You can do anything, Sebastian. You could do good or evil, you could change the world if you so please or do nothing at all. That power is yours and yours alone, I trust that you'll do what's right."
"What about that place, the empty field where I was, is it true that it doesn't exist? How did I end up there?"
The reflection simply shrugged and gave Sebastian an arrogant look.
It was a look that Sebastian knew all too well, it was his after all, and that seemed to throw Sebastian into a rage.
Before he could say anything he lost control of his body once again, then the reflection spoke.
"Sebastian, you have been given something precious and dangerous for you and everyone you decide to pull into this ordeal."
"You said you were free, you wanted the whole world to know it. But are you? Are you really?"
"I wonder if someone like you can truly be happy if the entire world is given to him at the palm of his hands."
Sebastian stared daggers into his own eyes.
The reflection sighed then continued.
"Your time is limited, and when the time comes, I really do hope that you meet my expectations, Sebastian."
"You never answered my question, but I suppose our time here is over. The next time we meet, I'd be happy if you had an answer for me, because like I said, the truth is yours, Sebastian, make good use of it.
The world vanished before Sebastian, then he woke up.
"That damn demon." He muttered.
It was 10:00 AM, his alarm clock had been beeping for 10 minutes yet Sebastian just noticed it.
Despite how he felt before going to bed, he was as unfeeling as any other day.
Sebastian looked at his phone then closed his eyes in frustration. He had another job to do that day.
He carried himself around his house as he ate, took a shower and got himself ready to go outside.
It was 10:30 when he turned on his T.V and saw the news.
His eyes lit up as he saw something he was not at all expecting to see.
What he saw surprised him so much that it nearly made him jump out of his seat.
"Holy shit!" He blurted out.
The news story showed street surveillance footage about an unknown human-like object falling from the sky and flying off before it could hit the ground.
There was also some testimony from witnesses that they heard someone screaming from the top of a building shortly before the object fell.
The footage captured was too blurry to truly make anything out , but Sebastian knew exactly what it was.
As soon as he saw it, Sebastian knew that "thing" was him, and felt somewhat proud.
He looked around on his phone to see if there was anything about it on social media and was pleasantly surprised to see some videos of the previous night floating around with people theorizing as to what it was.
Before Sebastian knew it, time had flown by so fast that it was nearly time for him to start working. He sprung out and frantically searched for his keys and equipment then hurried for the door.
The second his hand reached the handle he stopped, then smiled at himself.
He took out his phone and found the address of the place he needed to go, it was a new building that needed some pictures taken of it.
Sebastian let go of the door handle and looked at his hands, then it clicked.
"Open a window for your soul… this has to be some sort of joke. That thing really does think it's funny making me guess its stupid riddles.
He decided to stop being angry at the version of himself in his dreams, knowing that it would accomplish nothing at the moment.
He began to smile again and decisively looked at his right hand then he spoke.
And once he did, he disappeared once more.
