(This is Chase, Cora-James, Alpha Kale, Luna Mulan's POV)
Kale found Chase in the east wing.
The boy—no, the man, but he was a boy now, wasn't he?—was running from room to room looking for what Kale hoped wasn't an imaginary friend named Muffins.
Because that would simply break his heart. If Chase's accident caused him to lose touch with reality.
Chase threw open doors. He peered inside. He called out.
"Muffins? Muffins!"
Kale watched him for a moment. His chest ached.
He started in the east wing.
It was the oldest part of the castle. The walls were thick stone, cold and so damp.
The corridors was twisted and turned like a maze. Most of the rooms were empty. Abandoned. Dust covered the furniture. Cobwebs hung from the ceilings. But Chase didn't care.
He opened every door.
"Muffins?"
His voice echoed off the stone. No answer.
He moved faster. His feet slapped against the floor. His breath came in short, quick bursts.
"Muffins!"
