(This is Chase, Cora-James, Alpha Kale, Luna Mulan's POV)
The courtyard was pure chaos.
The sudden animosity between the Alpha and his Luna was felt by everyone close by.
It hung in the air like a storm waiting to break. And the impromptu journey to the city capital didn't help matters.
Servants ran in every direction, lugging trunks and satchels and bundles of clothing.
Guards shouted orders to servants.
Horses stamped and snorted like they could feel the tension in their bones themselves.
And carriages waited in a line, their wheels sunk deep in the mud from last night's rain.
It was chaos. Chaos. Chaos.
Except on the face of the person who started the damn doomsday clock— Mulan.
She stood apart from all of it.
Her hands were clasped in front of her. Her spine was straight. Her face was neutral. The only sign of her nervousness was her twitching fingers and her tightening jaw.
And the fact that her eyes kept darting to the side—to the man standing twenty feet away.
