Chapter 11 - Oldest Librarian

Most of Yuri's group went together with Caelix to see the situation she was willing to show. Most people from the other group didn't reject her offer as they also followed behind the other librarians for the same reason.

Leonhart was amongst the few left in the hall with others who decided that they would rather stay than join them. In their group, he and his grandparents were the ones left.

The librarians from the hall approach the small groups. One of them went to Leonhart's group and offered them a place to stay inside the library.

"If you don't mind, we would like you to show you to your rooms."

Leonhart stared at the unknown individual for a moment before nodding once. He assisted both of his grandparents to stand up, followed behind the librarian as they left the hall.

Walking through the vast floor and shelves, Leonhart glanced at his grandparents before posing a question to the librarian.

"Is there a way to get out of this crisis?"

Leonhart immediately went straight to asking the question that should've been the top priority after coming here.

He wasn't in disagreement with any of the librarians about using the library as a shelter that could protect them from the fall. However, if that were the end goal of the crisis, the system would've probably hinted at something related to it.

Yet, it was just the plain name of the library that predicted you.

The librarian didn't stop walking and was silent for a few seconds before answering his question.

"There is. However, since Caelix-nim is afraid of the outsiders who might harm the Library of Fate, she and Aron-nim were the only two people who knew the way out. Librarians like us who have low status aren't allowed to know it."

Leonhart creased his brows. "Does that mean we have to get permission from either of the two? Why would we need permission to leave this place?"

The librarian was silent for a while before answering. "I'm sorry, I can't give you an answer because I don't know. If you want to get answers, just Caelix-nim or Aron-nim directly."

Leonhart wanted to ask more, but they reached their destination in no time as the librarian presented them with the lodging where they'll be staying.

"Here's your room. Don't hesitate to ask any other librarians if you need assistance."

The librarian was about to leave when Leonhart stopped him.

"Where is this Aron-nim?"

The man glanced back and gave him a map of the library before pointing his finger at where the supposed Aron is staying.

"This is your room." The man pointed before sliding his finger into the far side of the map. "This is where Aron-nim is staying."

'This map looks like a maze. And it's insanely big!' Leonhart mused inwardly and couldn't help but be in awe of the map in his hands.

"Well then, I'll take my leave now. Have a good rest in this library. I'm looking forward to working with you."

Leonhart watched the back of the librarian disappear from his sight before clenching the map in his hands. With a tired sigh, he entered the room with his grandparents and decided to take a rest since he would have plenty of time tomorrow.

Feeling pretty exhausted with his grandparents beside him, the library didn't fail to do its job to protect them as Leonhart slept soundly that night.

The Library of Fate didn't fall short on giving individuals living inside of it the impression of its greatness and its huge, domineering presence. One hallway led to different paths that someone who wasn't that diverse in their ways will surely get lost.

However, if someone is holding its map and is very smart, getting lost is the least of its concerns.

'The distance! It's so freaking far!'

Leonhart mused inwardly as he walked through the hallways, clearly exhausted by merely finding the chamber where Aron was staying.

It has been a few hours since he started his journey to find Aron inside the Library of Fate. Thankfully, before moving toward his journey, he had already eaten his fill of the food that the other librarians provided for everyone.

It was a feast of food, though everything that they had eaten came from the monsters of the fall.

What Caelix showed others yesterday is related to it. She was a skilled hunter and knew her way around the monsters of the fall, and even though it sounds grotesque, with the right know-how methods, the food they got from the monsters turned out very well.

Even Leonhart, who was hesitant to eat them and vomit beforehand, ate them and thought the taste of a monster ain't that bad.

'When I get out of here, I'll eat real food! This is only temporary…' Leonhart thought inwardly, feeling helpless that he had to adjust to that kind of lifestyle for a few days.

Leonhart continued on his journey. Along the way, he met with the other librarians overseeing the library and asked if he was in the right direction towards Aron's chamber.

Eventually, after everything he had to go through, the chamber of Aron came into Leonhart's view, and he knew he had come to the right place.

From the outside, the chamber looked plain, designed to blend into the library rather than stand out.

The stone around its entrance was carved with simple, deliberate patterns, worn by time but carefully kept. There were no signs or markings to draw attention to it, yet the heavy door and the unnatural quiet around it made its importance clear to those who noticed.

The doors of the chamber opened as if they were expecting a visitor, before a man walked outside to greet him.

"Good day, guest. May I know who you are?"

Leonhart stared at Aron for a while, gauging the person's face before introducing himself. "My name is Leonhart. I'm actually here to ask questions. You are Aron-nim, right?"

Aron, the Oldest Librarian of the Library of Fate, produced a soft, amiable smile and replied. "Yes, I am. If you have questions, then you've come to the right place."
