The vanguard of the army took charge of the current situation. Any monster that turned on their cohort was cut down by Caelix's fiery blade, the group's front and leading damage dealer.
"We didn't even need to do anything at all." Aldi, who was amazed at Caelix's insane battle prowess, blurted out loud with admiration.
The group that heard that statement couldn't help but agree.
The rest of them didn't even get to raise their weapons yet, as the vanguard was handling the matters related to the monsters at the moment.
However, the strength of its threat isn't related to its overpowered control but its endless numbers.
Fall monsters that the vanguard killed are either alone or in a group of two or three. The only reason they haven't posed a threat yet is because of how synchronized the vanguard ways of killing them, giving no problem for Caelix to deal the finishing blows.
"Don't let your guard down."
Leonhart calmly reminded the group, not giving them any reason to act complacent just because everything was going smoothly.
What they were seeing were small fries.
They haven't met the guardians in the center of the library yet, something that Aron reminded them to worry about before leaving the safe area.
But as if the low-level monsters that appeared in the area were already dead in the hands of the group's vanguard, a new contender appeared at the very edge of the hallway.
"Grr…"
Caelix immediately signaled the group to stop as she clicked her tongue.
"Incoming Guardian."
Aron specifically told them that there are four strong monsters dwelling in the middle part of the library, and he called them Library Guardians.
The Guardian approaching the group looked wrong in every way.
The beast has a tall, thin body with uneven limbs that bend at odd angles. Its skin is dark and rough, marked with lines that look like smudged ink. Its face is unclear and distorted, with shallow hollows where the eyes and mouth should be.
It was walking on all fours at first before it slowly stood, its shape looked awfully abnormal, as if it was formed incorrectly.
"The Guardian, Errata Beast."
Leonhart's eyes shook.
He couldn't forget the time of his first-ever encounter with the monster that massacred his classmates from a distant, lost past.
Yet the Errata Beast that was currently staring at them was nothing like the monster that killed him.
It was on a different level.
Whoosh—!
The beast ran towards them before transitioning into all fours, using the library shelves as part of its movement, confusing the army on its first attack.
"Inferno's Veil."
The holders staying behind the vanguard began activating their abilities. Aldi, who sees the urgency of the situation firsthand, activated his ability.
Flames curled around him like a burning cloak, smoke trailing at the edge of the ember's tips. His hair lifted as if caught in a sudden wind, ashes falling from it.
The other holders whose abilities are active, like Aldi, also manifest them into reality and prepare themselves for the incoming attack.
The beast roared loudly and was smart enough to target the group behind first.
First, it swiftly dodged the vanguard by making it think it would foolishly face them, but it was witty to use the shelves for last-second, and lunged forward towards the backlines.
The Errata Beast growled as it extended its limbs to make first contact. Its actions were stopped once the blade of Caelix met it with the monster mid-air, its claws and the sword of the librarian making a huge metallic sound.
Caelix and the Errata Beast exchanged blows while falling in the air, trying to get a direct hit on their opponent.
Caelix swerved her sword to the right, only to meet with a limb that defended her target point.
In less than a second, the Errata Beast tried to counterattack by using its feet to stab Caelix at her abdomen, but she defended it by slightly moving her sword near it, the claws sliding onto its blade, leaving an erratic noise.
Caelix counterattacked, not willing to give a chance for her opponent to think, but if she failed, Errata Beast would find a chance to do the same thing.
It was just a few seconds of exchange, but the two adversaries already did a series of movements faster than the people from below could process while remaining in the air as they fell.
The onlookers below dispersed at their current position, afraid of being flattened out by the huge beast.
The librarians from the vanguard went to assist Caelix, waiting for the two of them to fall and entrap the Errata Beast.
However, the Errata Beast hasn't used its ability yet.
Its tail, which didn't pose a threat at first, grew longer before hitting the librarians from below, fully pushing them all back as the beast landed on the floor safely.
The worst part of it all, it managed to grab someone unbeknownst to the person falling victim to its clutches.
'Fuck!'
The unlucky person to be caught by its tail was no other than Leonhart, who was just helping a man who tripped when escaping from the landing point of the falling beast.
"Leonhart!"
Aldi shouted as he darted forward while Mark and Yuri tried to rescue Leonhart by following behind the huge firefighter.
Yet the Errata Beast was unforgiving and didn't let any mishaps happen during its ongoing fight with the army.
Hence, with a quick maneuver, Errata Beast's tail coiled around Leonhart, choking him in the process before killing him in just a few seconds.
His blood spattered around the air as the calls from the other people and their strange faces were the last thing he had seen before dying.
Tick-Tock!
His second death arrived, and he returned one minute before the Errata Beast came hunting them.
"We didn't even need to do anything at all."
Leonhart heard Aldi's voice, a minute before they were attacked by the Errata Beast, him claiming to be its first victim.
Cold sweats appeared on Leonhart's forehead as a quick realization dawned upon him.
'A minute just passed…'
Leonhart clicked his tongue as he quickly shouted.
"Ma'am Caelix!"
Caelix turned her head around and saw Leonhart pointing at the end of the hallway.
"The Errata Beast is there! Quick, formation!"
