What made the Errata Beast successfully attack them, even proclaiming Leonhart as its first victim?
It was because it was smart enough to target the backlines, somewhere around the place where Caelix's full prowess couldn't fully show, and she was probably worried that they are going to be hurt in the process if she released her full power.
"Quick, formation!"
Leonhart then looked at one of the Holders from his group and quickly called out.
"Ma'am Lily, activate your barrier now."
One of the Holders from the other group, Lily, immediately followed Leonhart's words and activated her ability, Gray Wall.
A narrow, gray barrier formed around the group's backlines enough to be seen with the naked eye.
However, due to how delicate the wall is that the beast can definitely destroy it in just a few hits, Leonhart immediately called out the people who can help strengthen the wall's surface.
"Sir Jake and Cain, enhance the walls now."
The same as Lily, neither Jake nor Cain didn't belonged to Leonhart's group, but they were willing to join on this journey, having a reason for leaving the crisis as fast as possible.
Jake holds the power of Reinforcement Surge, an enhancement-type ability that can directly strengthen a living or non-living thing he touches.
Jake slightly bent down, touching the surface of the wall that protected the group, as the frail wall that looked like it was breaking just a moment earlier began to harden.
However, because Jake needed to put his focus on maintaining that support for the wall, he was left vulnerable for the rest of the time, a major setback to his reinforcement ability.
Cain, the other Holder, is also the type of enhancer, holding the ability Directed Fortification. His enhancement is different, as there's no need for any direct contact.
Cain just needed to direct his attention to receiving the enhancement, in this case, Jake. However, its drawback is that Cain's focus narrows dangerously and more significantly.
Tunnel vision sets in as the only thing that he can see is Jake. Prolonged use can cause headaches or temporary loss of visual awareness.
Leonhart was the one who designed the defensive formation after hearing how the abilities of each one of them work, something he deliberately put importance on before leaving the safe area.
It is a defensive formation where an enhancement is applied that enhances the wall's capability of keeping them safe.
It didn't even take ten seconds till the wall formed.
But the Errata Beast was already running toward their direction, at the same time it did from Leonhart's previous regression.
The stark difference from then is that the wall is protecting them.
"Inferno's Veil."
Aldi also prepared himself, triggering his ability where he was cloaked in flames, in any case that wall wasn't enough to hold itself.
The same as before, it ignored Caelix and went straight to the backlines, smart enough to put pressure at the vanguard.
The beast used the shelves to lunge forward, but was met with an impenetrable wall blocking its way to instill chaos at the backlines.
The Errata Beast growled, hit the wall once, but was stopped when it tried to do it again as Caelix met its sword.
The destructiveness that wasn't shown before appeared as Caelix didn't have to worry about the people from the group.
Her blade intensely burned as some of its residual energy was making the wall tremble, yet not a single flame that had befallen touched even a single strand of hair from the group.
In the aerial battle, which was balanced before, turned into Caelix's advantage, her sword continued hammering down onto the beast.
The Errata Beast angrily growled, trashing its claws towards Caelix, only for it to be defended with ease. The monster seemed not to be expecting to be put in a position where it was forced to defend.
Thud—!
Both Caelix and the Errata Beast landed at the top of the wall, resuming their fight over it.
Each of their steps brought tremors, and the weight of those two carried made Lily and Jake struggle to maintain the wall from breaking apart.
'Exchange one minute of my memory.' Leonhart traded a part of his memory from his ability as he watched the ongoing fight just happening above their head.
Rumble—!
Leonhart gazed on the side and saw Lily cough out blood from her mouth as Jake struggled with the same feeling. Cain, who continued enforcing the wall, started feeling a headache from using his ability.
The defense that Leonhart designed will soon crumble. Every second these two traded devastating blows, the wall became weaker and fragile as it couldn't handle the pressure it was emanating from those two.
Leonhart was the first one to notice the problem. Caelix, who felt the change in the wall's structure, was second.
The third to feel the wall's surface dwindling was no other than the Errata Beast.
The smart beast backed away from confronting Caelix before unleashing another ability by roaring out loud.
After it vociferously roared, shadows with strange and indescribable writings were released underneath its feet and swiftly extended towards the whole wall, fully covering everything in black.
'Shit… what do we do with that?!' Leonhart couldn't help but curse inwardly, feeling the situation becoming hopeless.
The shadow that enveloped the wall didn't appear harmless at first, before the strange writings started glowing more and more intensely.
Soon, the strange writings exploded and bled out on what seemed to be an ink, entering the gray wall like water entering a cracked space.
'Ah shit… shit. What the hell is going on?! How many abilities does that beast even have?' Leonhart thought inwardly that the ink continued to pour inside the wall, soaking his legs.
The view outside the wall was blocked. Leonhart was hesitant to cancel the wall, as it could be another trick that the beast was pulling through.
But due to how fast the ink was filling the wall from inside, the ink level already reaching the chest, Leonhart clicked his tongue and called out to Lily.
"Deactivate your wall—"
Just as Leonhart was about to speak, a huge explosion could be heard by everyone from the wall.
The ink that was just there a moment ago disappeared instantly as if everything they had just witnessed was an illusion. The soaking feeling also vanished, leaving Leonhart confused.
The shadow covering the wall gradually dispersed from the air and there, everyone witnessed Caelix's burning hands choking the Errata Beast.
However, her whole attire changed.
The Caelix they were witnessing didn't appear on her usual librarian attire. Instead, everything around her that even herself weren't an exception was burning.
And with a slight motion from her hands, the Errata Beast died from her hands.
"Ahhhhh!"
Even so, Caelix screamed, her voice filled with grief.
She looked at the Errata Beast, tears of flames sliding from her burning cheeks.
Caelix couldn't understand her feelings but she feel deep remorse on killing the Errata Beast, a weird scene for the people looking at her direction.
