Chapter 10 - An Academy

The voice disappears completely as I start to feel someone shaking me. Everything around me seems to go back to normal as Tess appears in front of me.

"Are you good now? You just started to scream out all of a sudden." She asks with some concern in her voice.

I look down at my arm to see nothing is moving around anymore. "I'm fine." I respond.

"Then we should get going. It would be good for you to at least see what the academy can offer you." Tess says with some relief in her voice.

I didn't really bother arguing with her, so I follow her back down the steps and into the courtyard. A completely different building was in the direction we are heading, one that seems to resemble the gates of an academy.

How the hell could they possibly have something like this here? No one knew anything was going to happen so where did this come from?

I'm not saying a normal academy is impossible to be around but who needs them. The end of the world is basically here now, what's the point?

Everyone here would also be pretty new to this whole system as well.

The world has been in shambles and I doubt anyone has had enough time to get used to these weird awakenings. At least that's what I think about the whole thing.

"I see that a lot of you are gathered here today, it is quite the start to an amazing journey together. The circumstances could have been a lot better but that will change with the help you all can provide the world." A man speaks loud enough for everyone to hear.

He definitely looks like he would be some sort of wizard from a fantasy story. Wearing blue robes, sandals, a hat, and he even has a beard to go along with it all.

The only thing that seems weird about him is the strange red eyes.

Nudge. "That's the main teacher who will show us how to use our magic or powers to fight." Tess says quietly.

Wasting my time here with school is definitely not one of my priorities. Killing the monsters outside of here is all I want to do.

"I don't really want to do any of that." I respond while keeping my voice down.

I could see the look of disappointment on her face. "You won't be able to survive out there without any actual knowledge of fighting." Tess argues.

"Then I'll learn how to fight, that's it though. I don't care for anything else here." I reply while crossing my arms.

I could see the others around us paying attention to the wizard talking at the front. Obviously some people care about what he has to say.

"The board ahead has the names of everyone who has been brought in. Most of you seem to be quite young so I won't stress this enough, we want to help. Find your name and head to your designated classroom." He speaks with a loud, yet serious tone.

With that I walk throughout the crowd with Tess as we slowly make our way to the board. After a couple of moments I can see the board with our names on it.

[Classroom 1C]

• Liam ****

• Tess Verisel

• Claire Evergreen

• Jordan ****

• Lukas Ravencroft

The list went on with a few more names but I didn't really have it in me to keep reading. Most of this wouldn't matter to me soon anyway.

"1C, let's get going." Tess says as she begins to lead the way.

I didn't respond since I wasn't really in the mood for any of this shit. Entering the academy itself was definitely different since everything was lit up inside of the halls.

Lanterns emiting a bright white light were all I could notice lined up along the walls.

It was practically impossible for it to be dark inside of a place like this. Even the inside of my classroom is lit up without a single problem whatsoever.

I hate this already. "You really want to go through this?" I ask quietly.

"Yeah. This place will teach us how to survive with everything we awakened since the end of the world happened." Tess answers without any hesitation.

"Right." I say before taking a seat.

Around the room I could see various people talking with one another as we waited for the teacher to arrive. Most of them didn't seem like anyone I once knew so I kept my eyes forward.

Sitting in a classroom like this isn't going to help the world in the slightest. People are still dying out there while we do nothing.

I don't want to waste the time here. If they would just give me a weapon.... Everything could work out perfectly. I might even be able to kill quite a few of them.

Wriggle. Wriggle. The feeling of this thing in my arm was making it hard for me not move around in my seat.

Creeeek. Close. "Hello everyone! I believe that all the students should be here now. I'll begin to go over what we'll be doing in here now." A woman speaks with a laid back tone to her voice.

Someone completely different from the guy we saw giving the speech. She was wearing some sort of purple dress, it doesn't seem to cover much when it comes to her legs... And even her chest is a bit revealing.

Her long black hair went past her shoulders, bangs almost reaching her eyes, and she seems to be holding some sort of stick in her hand.

"Seems we won't have to deal with the weird wizard guy." Someone says behind me.

"Hehe, we got this hot lady instead." Another person replies to him with a chuckle.

To think that people can't take this seriously is even more of a reason why I don't want to waste my time here. I could never see myself helping them.

"Then kill them." A voice echoes.
