After hearing some sort of voice speak to me I manage to focus back on the woman in front of me. I definitely didn't want to act like some sort of crazy person all of a sudden.
"Nothing is bothering you?" She questions with a curious look on her face.
"N-No." I nervously answer.
My arm definitely feels different in a lot of ways but it isn't bothering me. The weird wiggling feeling going throughout it will take some adjusting.
I move my left arm without any issues, so it does work properly again too.
"It seems we don't have any real reason to hold you hostage in here. You don't seem to be a threat and are fully are of everything around you." She says with a look of relief.
I still don't know who this woman is or how I am alive in the first place. I lost so much blood. Any normal person would've been dead at that point so I'm a little lost there.
"What next?" I ask with a bit of curiosity.
"We'll show you what it is like here. I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Alice." She answers with a smile.
Alice? That's a nice name. I don't really know what to expect from anything after the world went to shit. And now I don't really know what to do since my whole family died before my eyes...
Killing those things might be the only way I can feel better about anything.
"Liam. I'm Liam. Thank you for uh... Saving my life." I say with a grateful tone.
She extends a hand towards me. "Anytime. Come with me." Alice replies while waiting for me to take her hand.
I take her hand with my right hand so that I don't accidentally do something to her with this weird infection thing. It is definitely messing with me in some weird ways.
But I go with her outside of the room as I watch the guards closely since they don't seem to happy about this. It felt kind of comforting to have a girl like Alice guiding me through this place.
The halls were lit with lanterns for light and I could just barely see a big courtyard in the distance.
It appears to be where she is taking me, a place where other people look like they are talking. All of this around some sort of giant campfire.
The chatter all around is all I can hear as I enter the courtyard with Alice.
"Don't worry, everyone here is special in some way. When the sun disappeared, everyone kind of awakened something within them. Not all people made it through the process which is why more monsters formed." Alice assures me right before she explains.
Awakened? I don't really know what that means yet. I definitely don't think I had some sort of awakening or else I could've saved my family from those monsters.
"What exactly does this awakened stuff mean?" I ask with a bit of confusion in my voice.
Before she could answer, I begin to see people doing various things in the courtyard. Some had fire in their hands, ice, wind pushing things, and some stuff that I couldn't even explain.
A bunch of magic awakened people? That was what I could say was right in front of me this whole time. But something seems odd about the ones who aren't doing anything special.
The ones who are just sitting there silently or who aren't really doing anything period.
"People found out they could use magic or some have these special powers. The power side of things is a little more of a mystery since we haven't gotten to see it much. But this is how we fight back." Alice responds with some excitement in her voice.
"Nothing about this seems right. These people just awakened with the ability to use magic or to use these special powers... Whatever that means." I say while looking at each of them.
Magic has never been a real thought before so this is a lot to try to take in. Not that it would be that shocking when monsters exist in this world now.
It makes me wonder if any of my friends survived during the last few weeks... Maybe they got lucky enough to have this awakening as well.
I don't really know since we've had no communication.
This whole situation is a load of shit though. I don't think I've had any awakenings and I have this weird ass arm now. What could this thing possibly do for me?
I'm partially a monster with this infection coursing through my entire arm.
"It is a lot to take in Liam, but this is the best way for our world to try to come back. It is also the best opportunity we'll get to try to find the people who will restore the light." Alice replies with a bit of optimism in her voice.
"People that will restore light?" I question with some confusion.
"Light bearers. The only people we haven't found since these awakenings occured. We haven't found a single one but I know they are out there. Rumors of small light sanctuarys exist." Alice answers with some hope in her voice.
Light bearers. I guess none of this is too crazy to believe anymore. It really doesn't mean much to me though... Because I don't care about restoring anything.
I just want to figure out how to kill these assholes. Killing them is the only way I'm ever going to feel better about anything in this damn world now.
I clench my fist as I look towards the darkness in the skies. "I'll kill them." I say quietly to myself.
Just barely it felt like someone was staring right at me, it wasn't Alice either. My eyes shift from the skies down towards the tree ahead of me.
A girl with short messy purple hair that just barely reaches her shoulders seems to be looking right at me. Her eyes are also purple, she is wearing a hoodie and sweatpants with some rough looking sneakers.
I wonder why she is staring at me like that.
