Chapter 1 - Redo it.

(First Person POV)

My first memory comes from a fair, it was a big fair and I was just a little kid. My parents took me there to enjoy the spectacles and games and all the other things a fair has, which I did.

But the best part of it all was when I looked at the play, it was your typical run-down cliché play where the hero defeats the villain and everyone's happy in the end. I don't remember much of the play to be honest, and I doubt it was that good to begin with…but it meant something to me.

The way people cheered as the hero defeated the villain and saved the hostage…I don't know… something just clicked within me.

Oh, where are my manners? My name's Watanabe Kai, I'm a 16 year-old Japanese-student who used to live a normal life, I had a father that was as hardworking as he was firm and a mother that loved both of us with all her heart.

Yeah…both of them were taken from me when I was 10, car crash, I survived and they didn't, the scar on my hand is a constant reminder of their absence.

Both of them were single-children so I bounced from adoption center one to another until I landed on a decent foster family…not that they could ever replace them.

Now, you would think that this would make me some edgy teenager brooding and sulking about how hard life is, right? Well, you're wrong!

I happen to be a singularity of optimism, I've always been able to bounce back from detrimental issues such as these ones. Don't misunderstand, I cried my eyes out for weeks when it happened and I do get some sensible moments here and there but I still persist to following my dream…becoming a police officer.

Abrupt change let's go back to the childhood part, what clicked in me was the idea of helping others, one after another I started helping people, whether it was just by picking something for them to helping them cross the street.

It didn't mattered, there was this good fuzzy feeling I had whenever I helped someone, it was refreshing yet not forced, words fail me to describe such happiness it brought me helping others.

Not only that but I also got a bonus that my parents seemed to approve of such a kind lifestyle that I developed, so it was something like this:

I help others = I feel good.

My parents like = I feel good.

I feel good = I help others even more!

Talk about perpetual motivation eh? It was the best, honestly. Helping others became the sole purpose of my life, to spread compassion and care just felt right to me, no matter the situation.

Perhaps I was a bit "Obsessed" with it but I don't know, I just couldn't ignore anyone in need, it didn't felt right. Even though it DID bring me some troubles from time to time like unwanted fights and such but…it was still worth it.

...…even as I lie in this puddle of my own blood…it was worthy.

(Flashback, 3rd POV)

Kai was just taking a walk, a normal walk, no purpose no direction, just him walking through the streets of Odaiba without a care. His smile was shining without an issue as he enjoyed his free time.

*GRUMBLE*

His stomach started grumbling, which meant that it was time for a snack. He looked around and saw a convenience store at the end of the street, and I don't meant a small one, this one was a big convenience store. He walked towards it while whistling and was hoping they had some tuna-mayo onigiri.

He entered the store but the atmosphere felt…weird. The kids were quiet, the cashier looked tense and for some reason there was almost no movement whatsoever, like, a guy was standing still over the freezer with a lost gaze.

Also, for some reason 3 guys have very big backpacks but not the physique of someone who would use such a thing.

Kai decided to not dwell on it and simply looked for his food, he looked for his tuna-mayo and took 2 of those and a bottle of water. When he was about to pay the cashier he noticed the tension on his look, something more akin to fear plagued his mind.

Kai shifted his eyes to the side of the store, the glass door was reflective enough for him to see what was happening, he saw a gun aiming at the cashier. It was barely noticeable but thanks to his studies on firearms Kai managed to see the barrel.

"I-I-It'll be 370¥." The cashier stuttered a little.

"Thanks." Kai smiled and paid for his food.

It didn't take a genius to know what was happening, the store was getting robbed, a single armed individual wouldn't be enough for the entirety of it, so there must be at least 3 or 4 others around.

Kai reached for his phone and dialed the police, unfortunately, it would take over 20 minutes to get there, why? Because there's a lot of illegals making shit of Japan and the police force is working overtime.

(A/N: Sad that I'm not exactly making this shit up.)

So, like any aspiring police officer with a little too much of a justice complex Kai tried to help, he knew that going guns blazing was a bad idea for several reasons, mainly the hostages, so he decided to play smart with this.

He took out his trusty childhood slingshot and some scraps that he found on the trash from an alleyway and ran behind the store to have a better vantage point to shoot.

As expected, the scene quickly devolved into the cliché armed robbery, they took all the valuables in their backpacks, including some products, as they kept aiming their guns at them. The window of opportunity for Kai was small, 1 shot for each of them to the eyes, that's the best way to incapacitate them.

The four robbers started leaving and that's when Kai took his shots.

*CLANG, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG*

4 pieces of scrap were shot at the robber's eyes, they all dropped their guns and this is when Kai took his chance. Running from the alleyway Kai jumped and delivered a downwards punch to one of the robber's jaw.

The impact stuns him and he falls, the other three take notice Kai's presence so he buys some more time by poking the closest one's eyes with his fingers before rushing to the furthest.

He didn't know how much the initial stun would last so he had to break the gentleman's oath, he kicked that robber's balls with the tip of his shoe.

RIP.

With two down he had to deal with the remaining two, one of them tried to reach for one of the guns so you leaped from your spot and stomped his hand, as he screamed in pain Kai rotated his body and delivered an elbow strike to the robber's chin, knocking him out.

*CLICK*

Kai heard the infamous clicking of a gun, he looked back and caught the glimpse of the robber aiming his gun at him.

He didn't hesitate.

*BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG*

6 shots, from a Glock 43 (9mm, slimline), the bullets pierced Kai's chest and teared apart his lungs. Kai didn't even felt the pain at the moment, he only felt the air literally escape from within.

He couldn't breathe anymore, he was bleeding, his lungs were slowly filling with his own blood, choking him ever so agonizingly slowly. He looked at the robber who was about to run past him and sharpened his gaze.

Mustering the last of his strength he managed to grab the robber's back of the head and slammed him face front into the asphalt, knocking him out.

The people from the store came out and all called for different services while others confiscated the weapons and beat up some of the robbers.

Kai looked at the sky, it was an unusually clear day and the blueness of the sky was particularly beautiful.

'Why didn't I leave? They wouldn't have shot anyone anyway for those things. Snacks, cash, phones, what's that compared to one's life, right?' Kai asked himself.

'No…I could never do that…I can't see people suffering and stand by when I can do something about it…it's who I am...who I wanted to be...…' Kai's consciousness fades as he heard sirens coming.

'I...really…wanted...to...be…a......hero......…' And with that, Watanabe Kai breathed his last breath.

.

.

.

.

"Wow...that was…intense." ???

"Yeah, it was a real bummer." Kai apologized.

He's currently sitting on a beanbag drinking in some sort of "room" of sorts, across a small living room table sits a man, or at least someone who looks like a man, wearing a set of white clothes, he has white hair, white eyes with silver pupils and also white-skinned.

"To think that you life ended that shortly." The man in white sighed as he played with his hair.

"I died doing what I wanted, stopping bad guys, although it was pretty reckless from my part wasn't it?" Kai let out a tired laugh.

He didn't "lamented" his actions, more like he was incredibly stupid with them.

"Shame, real shame here." The man in white commented as he spawned a can of soda from thin air and drank it.

"By the way…I know you kinda asked me to tell you how I died but…aren't you God or something?" Kai asked the man.

"Uh? Well, oh, it's the clothes, right? The white attire is giving those "holy" vibes isn't it? Well, you can think of me as a God if you want to but the correct answer is a bit more complex." The man stood up and clapped his hands.

The entire room disappeared and now they were both floating in a dark void.

"My name is Wexof, I'm the supreme being that transcends time, space and all that follows. The reason as to why you're here is because you've been deemed as worthy." Wexof introduced himself.

"Worthy how?" Kai.

"Your selflessness have aided A LOT of people and I deemed you worthy of giving you a second chance at life." Wexof explained.

Kai was taken aback by it, he didn't expected for something like this in his death. Normally, it would've been great but...

"I…I'd like to see my parents." Kai.

*VINIL DISC SCRATCH*

"What?" Wexof.

"I want to see my parents again…I don't want a second chance in life." Kai begged in his knees with tears in his eyes.

The pain of losing a parent, at a young age which is worse, is something no child should experience, specially if you got the jackpot and your parents were the perfect combination of strict yet kind.

Wexof looked at Kai and sighed in sadness.

"I expected as much from you…however…that won't be possible." Wexof shakes his head.

"Why?"

"How much do you know about heaven?" Wexof.

"Less than I'd like, memorized the 10 testaments." Kai sat.

"Right, when you die, those who go to heaven are "purified" all their memories, experiences and identity of self are erased, leaving them as pure souls that live in the promised land for all eternity." Wexof started to explain.

"Which means that even if I do meet them…they wouldn't remember me." Kai concluded as he lays on the void.

He looked at the vast nothingness and took a deep breath.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Kai screamed from the top of his lungs in anger, he had to accept the fact that he would never see his parents again, not even in death.

*HUFF, HUFF, HUFF*

Kai took some more breaths as Wexof gave him a cup of honey tea.

"Sorry, rules are rules and I better not mess with the ones in Heaven, that usually leads to issues." Wexof apologize.

Kai didn't answered but just took the cup of tea and gulped it in one go.

"AH! MUCH BETTER!" Kai smiled again and looked at Wexof.

"You better? Need 5?"

"Nope, I just needed to vent out a little bit, sorry for the outburst. Are my parent living nicely in heaven?" Kai.

"Like capitalism when everyone's working right and there's no corruption of funds." Wexof confirmed.

"Alright, what's this proposal of yours?" Kai asked.

"Glad you asked, I'll send you to another world-" Wexof.

"Isekai, got it." Kai interrupted.

"Anyway…ever read any of those self-insert fanfics?" Wexof.

"I only read original novels, not fanfics." Kai.

"Ever read My Hero Academia?" Wexof.

"Isn't that the anime that ended recently? Honestly, I was planning of binge-watch it after it ended, that's how I see all my anime and manga." Kai.

Wexof pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Ok, long story short, you're going there." Wexof.

"Why?" Kai.

"Because there were some "inadequacies" that I found with the ending." Wexof.

"Like what?" Kai.

"Spoilers. I'll send you there and see what you can accomplish, hard chance it can be worse that the original ending." Wexof.

"Ok, I've always wanted to be a hero anyways and now I'll be able to be one in a HERO WORLD? Count me in!" Kai smiled.

'Ah! The purity of that smile is blinding me!' Wexof thought.

"Ahem! Are you ready to go?" Wexof asked Kai.

Kai took a deep breath and smiled.

"Let's go!" Kai.

A portal opened and Kai immediately jumped inside it.

"Whew! All's well in today's job. Now no one will notice the blunder I did last time." Wexof.

In reality, Wexof did this very same trope years ago but fucked it up, and when the proverbial shit hit the fan he had to pause the universe trying to figure out a solution.

The solution? Remake it!

"And now to place all the information about the breathing techniques in his body as a quirk, now no one will complain about it!" Wexof cheered in his success.

What Wexof forgot was that if he wanted Kai to have a quirk that would complement the breathing techniques he should've implanted it within his soul BEFORE he entered the portal.

Now all that information will only be useful once Kai works hard to perfect his techniques, worst part is that since Wexof was responsible for giving Kai a quirk, which he didn't, that means that Kai will never awaken a quirk of his own.

The exact "science" include some soul shenanigans so I won't dwell on it but basically Wexof sent Kai to a world of superheroes with no superpowers but a lot of peak human physical condition techniques.

And now, Kai is utterly fucked...…

Or is he?

Afterall, that kid's best quality has always been never giving up throughout adversity.
