(3rd Person POV)
Now, you might be wondering, how Kai became friends with Tsuyu? Before that I think some context is needed (not really).
Tsuyu Asui is one of the future heroes who graduated from Class 1-A (The protagonists you uncultured swine), in other words she's important to the story later on.
Now, contrary to what everyone expect this to be the knight in shining armor saving the princess from quirk bullying, you're wrong.
(Months back to Kai's first week.)
'I'm bored.' Kai thought as he "attentively" heard the story of the Rabbit and the Turtle.
These past few days he's been playing a lot and enjoying his friendship with the other kids, but sometimes he would feel a little too disinterested in these sorts of lessons of empathy and discipline and whatnot.
He had those engraved in his DNA, metaphorically speaking.
'Huh?' Kai felt a tug on his sleeve and looked who it was.
It was Tsuyu with some crayons and several blank drawings of several reptiles and frogs.
"Want me to help you color those?" Kai asked Tsuyu.
The shy girl nodded and they both "sneakily" left the space and went to the back of the room. Just to be clear they only have either this classroom or the playground, they're still in the room they just left far enough to not disturb the readings, which the caretakers allow.
They sat in a nearby table and started coloring, Kai is quite "popular" due to how well he can color and draw but that's mostly because all other kids only doodle with their pencils and crayons and also he doesn't go outside the freaking line!!!!!
Sorry, I lost my composure. That shit of coloring outside the lines really irks me up.
Anyhow, the two of them started spending their time drawing and painting together for these past months and a beautiful friendship blossomed from it. Sometimes they would play animal-related games, Kai would find intrigue on how Tsuyu's quirk works and Tsuyu was amazed at how Kai was sometimes better at hopping than her.
Overall a very niche friendship that's been consistent throughout this past month.
(Back to the present.)
"Tsu-chan, mornin'!" Kai greeted.
"Good morning Kai-chan." Tsuyu greeted back with a smile.
"What do you think today's story will be?" Kai asked.
"I hope it's Franklin the Turtle." Tsuyu.
"We're getting a lot of American stories, huh?" Kai muttered aloud.
"My mom says it's because of All-Might." Tsuyu.
"All-Might?"
"My mom said something about popularity and merchandise, I can't pronounce well most of her words but it has something to do with that." Tsuyu.
'Hm…All-Might, Japan's #1 Hero…he's a graduated student from UA Highschool, Japanese but for some reason did most of his work in the USA before returning to Japan, he quickly climbed the ranks as a pro-hero faster than any rookie before him and is now considered "the symbol of peace" by all Japan if not worldwide.' Kai thought about what he knew about All-Might.
He recognized him fairly easily since he's literally in the first volume's cover, the suit he uses is fairly different though.
Kai has seen various videos about the hero over and over again, the way he moved, the way he fought, the way he laughed amidst danger while reassuring civilians.
What other words were fitting of him other than GOAT?
Greatest
Of
All
Time
GOAT.
In Kai's book, almost no one could compare, at least in this universe though.
"Kai-chan…" Tsuyu tugged Kai's shirt a little, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"Sorry. Got too caught up again." Kai sheepishly scratched the back of his head.
"Kero. You always lose focus when it comes to All-Might." Tsuyu.
"Hehe…I think all kids do, you like All-Might too, don't Cha?" Kai boops Tsuyu in the nose with his index finger.
It's something he does for fun each time Tsuyu says "Kero" out loud.
Tsuyu blushes a little and just walks inside the classroom.
"You're a bit too dumb Kai-chan." She says before going to her seat.
"You're too mean and blunt Tsu-chan~" Kai smiled and sat beside her.
The morning wasn't anything new, rinse and repeat of listening, learning and playing until it was time for lunch. They all got some cookies with milk and Kai sat in his friend group alongside Tsuyu.
"Yo~" Kai greeted his friends.
It was a small group of 4, 3 boys and 1 girl not including Kai and Tsu, these are the kids who Kai play with most of the time during recess.
"Kai, let's trade cookies, I wanted vanilla flavor." Han extended his cookie pack to Kai.
Suzuki Han, a kid from a normal family with black hair and black eyes, his quirk gives him X-ray vision, the issue with that is that he can't turn it off and always sees everyone as skeletons, which he's scared of. Reason as to why he wears special glasses that allow him to see normally.
"Didn't you trade with Tei?" Kai asked him.
"Nah, I got the only blueberry pack this time, no way I'm trading." Tei answered as he ate with delight his cookies.
Long Tei, a Chinese-born kid that moved into Japan for economic reasons, he's red-eyed with orange hair and always has a lazy smile, his quirk lets him breathe fire, which is why he's not allowed to sigh like normal people, though the flame from a sigh could barely lit up something.
"Tei-chan sure is lax." Tsuyu commented.
"Tsu-chan, do you think I should paint my nails red?" Milia asked her friend.
Kasimir Milia, a pink haired with flower pattern pupils, her parents were from Russia but Japan's less cold so they moved there, her quirk allows her to make flowers bloom ANYWHERE yes, even in inorganic materials, but the flowers are somehow just normal flowers, the species varies according to where they sprouted.
"I don't know, I think they're pretty enough." Tsu.
"That's why Tsu's my favorite!" Milia hugged Tsu.
"And there they go, talking about nails and girly things." Han commented as he opened Kai's cookie pack.
"Cut them some slack, a group without women can get pretty boring." Kai.
"My dad said the same thing once as he looked at my mom with some funny eyes. I don't know what he meant but I heard some squeaking from their room at night." Tei shuddered a little.
"Could it be a ghost?" Han.
"Don't say that! I can't lit ghosts on fire…" Tei shuddered again.
"They were probably just bouncing on the bed." Kai coughed a little as he focused on his milk.
"Like a trampoline?" Tei.
"Yeah, adults sometimes do that." Kai blushes a little.
"Well, next time I'll ask them if I can join them!" Tei beamed up.
'Sorry, sorry for this Tei!' Kai apologized in his mind.
"Guys…keep it down...I want to sleep." Soma spoke while he tried to sleep.
Shuji Soma is your normal fat kid, he was born here in Japan and loves to be lazy. His quirk actually makes him capable of staying awake for over a week's worth of time without rest, but he also has chronic narcolepsy so…yeah. He's also a foodie so don't leave your bag of chips unattended when he's around.
"Right, right, sorry Soma." Kai apologized.
"By the way, Kai, what's your quirk?" Tei asked.
There was a pause.
"Right, yesterday was your quirk exam, right?" Milia asked expectingly.
Kai sighs and eats a cookie.
"I don't have one." Kai says nonchalantly as he sips his milk.
There was another pause.
"What?" Han.
"The doctor said I don't have a pinky joint or something, meaning that I don't have a quirk." Kai explained.
"Aww man, I wanted to see what your quirk was going to be." Tei said a bit dissatisfied.
"Bummer…" Milia.
"(sad)Kero…" Tsuyu.
"Welp, it's not like I'm planning to give up y'know." Kai finished his snacks and lies on the floor.
"Huh? You're still planning to become a hero?" Tei.
"Of course, being a hero's my dream, how can I give up when I haven't even started?" Kai.
"But dad told me that without a good quirk, becoming a hero is hard." Han pushed back his glasses.
"So? I'm not afraid of the hard route, I'll do everything I can to become a hero, and if I don't then at least I gave it my all." Kai.
"Kero~" Tsuyu smiled at Kai as she finished her snacks.
"But how will you be a hero then? With no quirk I just don't see it, sorry." Milia.
"Well, I once read in a manga that the main character must train hard to become stronger, so I'll do that." Kai.
"A manga like "The Seven Crosses of Great Maryland" or "Strike-Strike Rangers of Powers?" huh?" Some suddenly woke up and asked.
"Either or?" Kai genuinely didn't know what the fat kid was talking about.
"Meh, if you don't know about them then don't fake it." Soma went back to sleep.
"So, you're planning to train like an anime character huh, neat." Tei.
"Tei, my friend, we live in a world where people fly, breathe fire and can bench-press entire buildings, this is what you would call an anime scenario." Kai.
"Stop using words I don't understand." Tei pouted.
Milia rolled her eyes.
"Anything else to add to our snack dynamic?" Kai asked around.
No one answered, except Tei.
"How are you going to become a hero without a quirk?" Tei asked him.
"Well, with a lot of push-ups, sit-ups and a lot of orange juice." Kai answered excitedly as his breathing picked up.
Yeah baby, time for a fucking training montage bitches!!!!!!
