I blinked, half a second of darkness, and I was in the sky. Last I remembered, I was surrounded by birds. Pheonixes, to be exact. I looked around and realized we were going East. Toward mountains. The Appalachian Mountains were just barely in sight.
"Why do you want me?" I asked the Pheonix, carrying me. "And why me?"
Somewhere in my head, I heard a female voice respond.
"I am Dayla of the Eastern clan. We have taken you to be our Goddess while you finish your transformation. You will grow bright red angel wings from your back, but until then, we must carry you."
"What! I'm growing wings? Is that why I'm all, well, this?" I yelled with fright.
"You are turning into Lady Alyssa, goddess of all pheonix, but you will stay here in the East until you have fully transformed, and we will train you to learn to control your emense power."
"Why me?"
"Because you have the gift. I just unlocked it for you. Your powers have been concealed by your great great grandmother to protect you from the burden of protecting so many others. She could sense your power decades before you were even born."
"What about Gavin? He is worried about me!"
"He will be taken care of. You will reunite when he comes for you in three days' time. You will be fully transformed by sunrise tomorrow. That gives us two days to teach you about your power and how to use it."
"When I learn how to use it, can I go home forever? Back to my normal life?"
"You will be transformed, and you will learn how to conceal your new appearance, but your old normal and your new normal are two totally different things. When you close your eyes and call attention pheonixes, you will be heard by all across the globe. You can command their assistance whenever, but in return, you protect their existence and prevent extinction."
"So I can go back to being me, but I'll be a goddess and protect the pheonix race, but they will also help me protect myself, and what's important to me? That sounds okay."
"You aren't just any goddess, lady, Alyssa. You are the Fire Goddess, protector of Pheonix, Gardian of the sun."
Then we arrived. To the place I would stay for three days, until Gavin came to save me.
Dayla flew me down to the entrance of a cave and let go of me. I walked into a cave with a beautiful waterfall, seen as soon as you entered, about forty feet in front of us. There were pheonixes everywhere. Some were perched on pillars of rock, and others were gliding gracefully through the air. I walked carefully, as if the ground would fall under my weight.
"This is home of the pheonixes Eastern clan, where you will be staying, and training." Dayla guided me to the waterfall, and it split, allowing us to enter. "This is where you will be staying, Lady Alyssa."
The room had a bed, surprisingly, with shimmering red covers and way too many pillows. There was a desk carved into the cave, rough and uneven, but clearly a desk. Their was a stool made of fire under it, and Dayla pushed it out for me.
"Sit." She offered, perching on the desk. "Your human body is exhausted from the transformation."
I wearlity approached, and put my hand near the stool. It was neither hot nor cold, but not there at all. I sat, and it felt as though I were floating on a cloud.
"Why is it so light?" I asked, finally speaking. "It doesn't feel like it's there."
"That is because you are the goddess of Fire now. Your body has accepted the fire, as the fire has accepted you." She replied. "Now you need rest. Get to sleep, and I will come for you in three hours."
