### Chapter 30: 3 Years
"Are you stronger than me?"
Laxus's eyes narrowed slightly.
"I didn't say that. If you want to think that way, I can't help it."
Riku spread his hands. He wouldn't mind being friends with a normal Laxus, but forget the current Laxus.
"Brat, I see you also use Lightning Magic. How about I teach you how to use Lightning Magic?"
Crackle crackle!
Golden arcs of electricity appeared around Laxus's head. Looking at the expression on his face, he obviously wanted to teach Riku a lesson and let him know who the boss of the guild was.
"I don't think I need you to teach me."
Crackle crackle!
Blue arcs of electricity also radiated from Riku's body.
Riku wasn't someone who swallowed insults. He never started trouble, but he wasn't afraid of it. If someone wanted to bully him, he would fight back.
The atmosphere became tense instantly, and the two could start fighting at any moment.
Suddenly!
Makarov's voice rang out:
"Both of you stop!"
Hearing Makarov speak, Laxus stopped.
"Hmph! Kid, consider yourself lucky. You'd better have some self-awareness. S-Class missions aren't something a newly promoted S-Class like you can handle. Be careful not to go and never return."
After saying this, Laxus turned and left.
Riku raised an eyebrow. Laxus really had a foul mouth. He really had the urge to teach this guy a lesson, but for the Master's sake, he let it go.
Riku turned and entered the request room on the second floor. Unlike the densely packed requests downstairs, there was only one request board here, and there were only three requests on it.
Two S-Class missions and one SS-Class mission.
Reading the missions carefully, he found that none of the three were simple; all were extremely dangerous. However, the rewards were correspondingly very generous.
Even the lowest paying one had a reward of 12 million Jewels, equivalent to about 600,000 RMB.
Seeing this reward, Riku was instantly tempted. Just completing one mission would mean he wouldn't have to work for the next year and could live freely.
He immediately tore off the "Exterminate the Spider King" request, then went downstairs to Makarov and showed him the request form.
"Riku, are you going on an S-Class mission right after becoming S-Class? Isn't it a bit too early? The danger of S-Class missions is incomparable to the missions on the first floor."
Becoming an S-Class mage didn't mean one could definitely handle S-Class missions; it was just the minimum threshold for undertaking them.
S-Class missions were life-risking even for S-Class mages. Accepting any one of them required careful consideration.
Riku smiled: "It's fine. I have confidence in my strength."
"Hmm... alright then."
Makarov had witnessed the duel between Riku and Gildarts. The terrifying destructive power of Riku's final move was still fresh in his memory. Gildarts also gave him a very high evaluation, feeling that Riku's strength wasn't far from his own.
With such strength, going on an S-Class mission shouldn't be a problem.
"He really allowed Riku to go?!"
"Erza became an S-Class mage but hasn't been allowed to do S-Class missions yet."
"Let alone Erza, even Laxus was only recently allowed to do S-Class missions."...
The guild members were very surprised to see Riku allowed to do an S-Class mission right after becoming an S-Class mage.
Hearing the voices below, Laxus's face became somewhat ugly, and his fists cracked as he clenched them.
Riku said hello to Mira and the others, then set off.
He had asked Mira if she wanted to team up, but Mira refused. On one hand, Mira worried about her siblings. On the other hand, Mira felt the gap between her current strength and Riku's was too big. Teaming up wouldn't make much sense, and she didn't want to become a burden.
He respected Mira's idea. Besides, working wasn't his main task. Apart from eating, drinking, and having fun, he spent most of his time training.
Although excited about becoming an S-Class mage, he wasn't too arrogant. His current strength might be comparable to an average Wizard Saint.
But what's so great about the Ten Wizard Saints? In the early stages, they seemed powerful, ranked as the top ten mages on the continent of Ishgar.
But in the later stages, when the mages ranked second to fifth joined forces only to be easily crushed by the number one, God Serena, one would realize that the Ten Wizard Saints were nothing special.
And God Serena, ranked first in Ishgar, was merely one of the Spriggan 12 of the Alvarez Empire.
Such a powerful God Serena was instantly killed by Acnologia without even lasting a single move.
Before that, Makarov had said that the fifth-ranked Jura was comparable to Gildarts three years later.
He couldn't defeat the current Gildarts.
Calculating like this, he was actually nothing special right now.
He needed to awaken the Goro Goro no Mi as soon as possible; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to protect himself and everyone in the future crises.
A month passed, and Riku returned to the guild.
He encountered quite a bit of trouble on this mission. It took a month of back-and-forth struggle to complete it. He could only say it was truly worthy of being an S-Class mission.
After returning to the guild, he learned that Gildarts had set off for the 100-Year Quest a week ago.
He had expected this point. Gildarts' personality was just like that; nothing could bind him in one place forever.
Riku could only pray that Gildarts would return safely.
Time flew like an arrow, years passed like a shuttle.
Three years passed quietly.
