Chapter 113: The Total Annihilation of the Hybrids
BOOM!
Reze pressed her palm against the outer wall of the building, instantly blasting a massive hole into it. However, before she could charge through the gap, the military deployed their own Hybrids to intercept her.
Seeing the Hybrids rushing toward her was exactly what Reze wanted. Her goal was never to storm in and kill the high command herself; she was purely there to draw out the military's "war machines." After all, it was impossible for her to fight through multiple Hybrids and reach the leadership alone.
Now that they were all out in the open, she could leave the rest to Otonashi Chiya.
"Have you lost your mind? You dare to defect?"
"Give up now and it's not too late. The superiors might still show you mercy."
"Think carefully. Don't throw your life away over a moment of impulse."
Seeing that Reze hadn't pushed further into the breach, the other Hybrids didn't rush to attack. They had known each other for a long time and didn't want to see her make a fatal mistake. As for joining her in rebellion—that was out of the question. Not everyone shared Reze's yearning for the freedom of an ordinary person; some had long since had their spirits broken by time.
Furthermore, their roles differed. There were senior Hybrids with higher status, better treatment, and more relative freedom; they were content with the status quo and saw no reason to risk everything against the state. Success wouldn't necessarily benefit them, but failure meant eternal damnation. If the military could turn them into Hybrids, they had ways to turn them back into humans—by surgically extracting the Weapon Devil heart. Once rendered human again, their only fate would be a slow death under torture.
"..."
Reze didn't respond. Instead, she immediately retreated, positioning herself behind Otonashi Chiya.
"I see. Shingetsu, you've defected as well..."
The Hybrids couldn't recognize the man in the red tiger-patterned mask, but they recognized Shingetsu instantly.
"Defected?" Shingetsu let out a contemptuous, cold laugh. "You should call it revenge."
The Hybrids didn't understand what she meant by "revenge," but they weren't in the mood for small talk.
"If you're seeking death, we'll be happy to oblige."
The group of Hybrids lunged simultaneously toward the trio. Chiya scanned them and recognized several: the Flamethrower, the Spear, and the Whip—all individuals he remembered from the original story. It appeared these three were originally Soviet assets before Makima "scavenged" and dominated them later on.
There were also two others he didn't recognize: judging by their appearances, they were likely the Axe and the Hoe Hybrids. A total of five "war machines" were closing in.
"Susanoo!"
Chiya chanted internally, immediately manifesting the second form of Susanoo, shielding both Reze and Shingetsu within its ribcage. A blue-green giant, thirty meters tall and clad in ethereal armor and flesh, materialized instantly.
"A cyan giant? You're that Otonashi Chiya?!"
The five Hybrids had already studied the intelligence reports regarding Otonashi Chiya, so the moment they saw the pale blue giant, they recognized him instantly.
Shingetsu had witnessed the Susanoo's third form before, so she remained relatively composed. Reze, however, was different; it was her first time seeing the Susanoo with her own eyes—especially from such an immersive, first-person perspective. She found it absolutely breathtaking.
The Susanoo acted as an absolute defense, effortlessly blocking the simultaneous assault of the five Hybrids. Even in its second form, the Hybrids failed to cause a single crack in its surface, though they had yet to unleash their full power.
"How can it be this sturdy?!" The Hybrids were stunned by the giant's defensive capabilities.
Immediately afterward, Chiya pushed the Susanoo into its third form, and its height instantly doubled! Standing dozens of meters tall, it didn't quite tower over the military skyscraper, but the sense of dread it radiated was overwhelming.
Simultaneously, the Susanoo-sized Blade of Berserk appeared. Chiya controlled the giant to deliver a casual horizontal slash; a massive wave of energy, large enough to blot out the sky, instantly swallowed the five Hybrids!
Chiya deliberately held back his strength; otherwise, the entire military building would have been leveled by that single strike. He didn't want the high command to die so mercifully, so he stopped the blade's shockwave from consuming the building—that would be letting them off too easy. Furthermore, there were many innocent people inside; he wasn't so depraved as to slaughter everyone on sight.
Thus, the gargantuan energy wave dissipated abruptly, leaving behind only the five motionless corpses of the Hybrids. It was true that Hybrids were immortal, but that was contingent on someone being available to restart them. Now that they had all fallen together, they had no chance of revival.
"That strike...!" Reze's eyes widened in shock. The intelligence reports hadn't mentioned a slash of that magnitude. When Chiya hunted the Typhoon Devil, he had used a relatively ordinary strike, never drawing upon the Berserk Devil's full power.
Reze realized more than ever that she had severely underestimated Chiya's strength! She also noted that with all five Hybrids slain at once, they couldn't help each other resurrect.
Shingetsu's pupils also trembled. Those five Hybrids appeared just as troublesome as Reze, yet they were ended by Chiya in a single blow.
Chiya deactivated the Susanoo and walked toward the bodies, transferring them one by one into the Kamui dimension. This ensured they could never be revived; moreover, immobilized corpses posed no threat to him within his personal space.
"The military Devil Hunters should be arriving soon. Just stay here and hold them off for me. Try not to kill the innocent unless they're bent on seeking death," Chiya instructed Reze and Shingetsu before heading straight into the military building.
He had already learned the names and seen the portraits of every high-ranking official involved in the plot against him thanks to Reze. With his Mangekyo Sharingan, he had etched every face and name into his mind with perfect clarity. He had no intention of a senseless massacre; he was targeting only those who had targeted him, and he would wipe them out to the last man!
He had also obtained a rough layout of the building's interior from Reze and knew the most likely locations of the high command. He now moved toward those targets with singular purpose.
Chiya drew the chain and tachi from the Kamui space, concealing the chain within his left sleeve while gripping the tachi in his right. Utilizing "intangibility" to walk through walls at will, the armed military personnel could do nothing to stop him. They could only watch in terror as the mysterious, eerie masked man delved deeper into the heart of the military headquarters.
