Chapter 112: The Night of the Massacre Begins
It wasn't just Reze; Shingetsu's reflexes were equally sharp, and she had already dropped into a combat stance. Their reactions were quick, but they were aimed at the wrong target; in that first instant, neither could tell that the mysterious masked man before them was actually Otonashi Chiya.
"Don't get excited. It's me, Otonashi Chiya. You'll know if you look at my eyes," Chiya explained immediately, seeing how wary they were.
Hearing Chiya's voice, Reze froze. She looked closely at the blood-red pupils behind the mask; they indeed bore the unique pattern exclusive to Otonashi Chiya. Heterochromia was rare enough, but eyes with such distinct internal shapes were unheard of. Reze felt certain that Chiya's eyes were one of a kind.
"Phew~ So it's you, Master. I thought an enemy had found us; you really gave me a fright." Reze let out a sigh of relief and lowered her guard.
Shingetsu also confirmed it was Chiya's eyes. She couldn't help but ask, "Why the sudden change in clothes? And your hair... it's grown so long."
"Just think of it as a wig," Chiya explained.
In reality, it wasn't a wig. Upon equipping the Massacre Night skin, the system had directly transformed his hair. He simply didn't want to explain the mechanics, so he called it a wig for convenience.
"I'll be using this look for tomorrow night's operation. I'm just checking the effect for now."
Chiya went into the bathroom to look in the mirror. It looked exactly as he had imagined, leaving him quite satisfied. Furthermore, inside his Kamui space, there was now a chain and a tachi—the exact weapons used by Obito during the Uchiha massacre.
However, he assumed they were just ordinary weapons; for him, they were mostly decorative. Obito had used the chain to increase his attack range since having only a right eye made him far less versatile than someone with Double Kamui; the chain was a supplement to the single-eye Kamui. As for the blade, it appeared to be a standard tachi—legendary artifacts in the Naruto world were few and far between.
Simply put, if the "Massacre Night" skin had included special or legendary weapons, it wouldn't have cost a mere 10 attribute points. Providing ordinary gear was more reasonable.
Actually, I was thinking of changing swords anyway. My old tachi was getting a bit worn... Chiya thought. He didn't know yet if the system-provided blade was any good, but he'd find out during the Night of the Massacre.
"To be honest, Master looks quite handsome like this," Reze said, walking over to him.
"Really? Then it seems it was a good choice." Chiya wasn't sure if Reze was just flattering him, but he felt good about the look himself.
"Why not ask Miss Shingetsu? Shingetsu, what do you think?" Reze looked back at Shingetsu.
"..." Shingetsu remained silent for a moment before speaking candidly. "I find the outfit a bit intimidating, though I suppose it is handsome in its own way."
Intimidating and handsome weren't mutually exclusive; she had genuinely felt a surge of tension when she first laid eyes on this version of Chiya.
"That works," Chiya said. He felt the more mysterious and frightening he looked, the better. He wouldn't let those high-ranking officials die a quick or painless death—he wanted them to perish in utter despair.
"In that case, we leave for Moscow tomorrow morning to arrive early and prepare," Reze said. As she spoke, her gaze sharpened significantly.
The next day.
Chiya and the others traveled directly to Moscow by car. Although the distance between Moscow and Leningrad was significant, their current situation wasn't suited for planes or subways, as that would alert the military to their movements prematurely. A car ride took about ten hours, which was enough to get them into Moscow before nightfall.
"We'll stick to the plan we set yesterday," Chiya emphasized to Reze and Shingetsu once more. "Reze, you're responsible for causing a commotion to draw out the other Hybrids. After that, you'll work with Shingetsu to deal with the military's Devil Hunters, while I handle the Hybrids."
Aside from Chiya simply unleashing Susanoo, Reze's nature as the Bomb Hybrid made her the best candidate for causing a distraction. Ideally, she would lure all the Hybrids out at once so he could resolve everything in one fell swoop. The Moscow military's Devil Hunters would then be left to Reze and Shingetsu.
With Reze's guidance, they soon located the Moscow military base.
"Take my hands. I'm taking us in," Chiya said.
Approaching the base normally would invite immediate detection, but things were different if he shared his "intangibility" with Reze and Shingetsu.
"Okay~" Reze grabbed Chiya's hand without a second thought. Had the atmosphere not been so serious with battle looming, she likely would have hugged his entire arm. Shingetsu was initially a bit shy and hesitant, but seeing Reze move so decisively, she refused to back down and followed suit.
Chiya sensed the subtle competition between them even at a time like this and let out a helpless, faint smile. As they each gripped one of his hands, he immediately pulled them into an "intangible" state and dove underground.
In this state, they couldn't be detected by radar or similar devices because their physical bodies were technically inside the Kamui dimension. Of course, Reze and Shingetsu had no idea where their physical forms actually were; they only knew that Chiya made them feel like ghosts passing through the earth.
Watching Chiya ferry them through the ground, Reze was filled with wonder. She hadn't expected him to be able to extend his "ghost-like" state to others. While Soviet records included the Ghost Devil, its powers didn't work like this—and considering Chiya had so many other abilities, she couldn't even begin to imagine which devil he had a contract with.
Soon, the trio had successfully and silently infiltrated the base. It was now deep into the night—the perfect time to strike.
"Operation start!"
At Chiya's command, Reze reached up and pulled the pin on her neck. With a soft "Bang!" from her lips, her head exploded like a bomb.
BOOM—!
The massive explosion was exceptionally loud in the dead of night. It instantly triggered the base's alarms, filling the air with a sharp, ear-piercing wail. Military personnel spotted her immediately; the noise was too great and her appearance too striking to miss.
"Bomb, are you attempting to defect?" a voice boomed over the intercom.
Both the military and Reze herself referred to her as "Bomb," as humanity's memory of the word "bomb" had long since been erased from this world.
Reze didn't reply.
BOOM!
An explosion beneath her feet carved a crater into the ground, providing her with the explosive force of a missile as she charged fiercely toward the main military building.
