James traces gentle patterns along my forearm, his touch both soothing and electrifying. "Werewolves possess far greater strength than ordinary humans," he murmurs against my ear. "The boy will survive until we find a solution."
My voice comes out smaller than I intend. "Do you truly believe that?"
His honesty has always been one of his most devastating qualities, which is exactly what I need right now. "With alchemy, witchcraft, and your devastatingly clever immortal husband working together, we'll crack this puzzle. It's what we excel at."
I tilt my face toward his, warmth flooding my chest as my lips curve upward. "You're absolutely right. That is our specialty." I allow myself a precious moment to melt into James's strong embrace before forcing myself to stand and approach Alonzo. "How are you managing right now?"
