Nora's POV
The demon's eyes turn pitch black as it surfaces again, shoving Vallerie aside with brutal force. She crashes into the armchair leg, her head striking it with a sickening thud.
"Mom!" Zane's terrified cry pierces the air as the demon lunges at him, fangs sinking deep into his bicep. Flesh tears away in a grotesque chunk, blood spurting everywhere.
I thrust my hand forward, telekinetic energy slamming the demon backward, giving Zane precious seconds to scramble to safety.
"The salt," I gasp, maintaining my grip on the writhing creature. Zane stumbles toward the desk, blood streaming down his mangled arm. His elbow catches the salt canister, sending it tumbling to the floor where white crystals scatter uselessly across the hardwood.
"Dammit." I struggle to stand, but that cursed round ligament pain shoots through my abdomen like lightning. My moment of weakness is all the demon needs to break free from my hold, charging forward with renewed fury.
