Nora's POV
The question hangs in the air between Kevin and me, heavy with implications I'm not sure I want to explore.
Kevin's response comes quietly, his voice carrying that familiar weight of centuries. "Why does Hugo do half the things he does? Don't put too much stock in him, Nora. I understand your desire to have a connection with your family, but Hugo isn't the answer you're looking for."
Deep down, I know he's speaking the truth. The rational part of my brain recognizes the wisdom in his words, but there's this desperate ache in my chest that refuses to listen to reason. I'm so starved for any connection to my father's bloodline that I'm willing to ignore red flags the size of billboards. The evidence is right there in my recent actions. I just cast a cloaking spell on the literal devil himself, for crying out loud.
