Nora's POV
"You did it, sweetheart." Hugo straightens his expensive suit and surveys our surroundings before flashing me a proud smile. "You brought us back. Your mother would have been so proud."
The world spins around me for several heartbeats as I fight to regain my balance. "James," I breathe out, my voice barely audible as I stumble toward the front door. "James," I call again, this time louder, my heels clicking against the stone pathway.
I haven't even reached the porch when the door swings open. James stands there, his deep blue eyes wide with shock and relief as he stares at me. The afternoon sun immediately begins burning his vampire skin.
"Nora."
My heel catches on our custom doormat with its large letter K, and I trip forward into James's waiting arms.
"Nora," he says again, crushing me against his chest.
"You're burning," I whisper, feeling the heat radiating from his skin as it sears under the sunlight.
