Chapter 26: The Threat Letter

"He seems to be enjoying himself," Uvogin muttered, clenching his fist.

"No, remove the 'seems'," Nobunaga's eyes flashed with ruthlessness, but then a smirk curled his lips.

If he could kill the brat right when he was most smug, that would be its own kind of enjoyment.

"You look like you're coveting my prey," Uvogin looked down at Nobunaga with a hint of hostility.

"This isn't the place to fight," Shalnark stepped in as the peacemaker. "Are you planning to finish him off in the ring?"

"Didn't we decide we don't need his Scarlet Eyes anymore?" Uvogin countered.

"Yeah, we don't," Shalnark nodded. "But meeting him in the ring might be troublesome to arrange."

Uvogin turned and walked toward the exit of the arena. "Then let's put some pressure on the prey. If he dares to run, we can kill him outside."

"Just don't overdo it," Shalnark followed nonchalantly. "His abilities are tricky."

"If Uvogin can't handle it, I'll step in," Nobunaga tightened his grip on his katana, looking dutiful.

But before he could finish his sentence, Uvogin's killing intent exploded ahead of him.

Bam!

Nobunaga was sent flying backward.

The arena stands fell into chaos, and security personnel rushed in.

But by then, Ronin was long gone from the ring.

...

"The publicity campaign was effective, but after beating Sidney, no one is going to challenge you for a while," Milia said, waiting for Ronin in the tunnel beneath the stage.

"It doesn't matter. I can challenge others," Ronin replied indifferently.

The 200th floor was packed with fighters. There were seasoned veterans who preyed on rookies, and fearless strongmen waiting for a challenge.

In his last two matches, Ronin had been the one chosen.

Now that no one dared pick him, he could choose his next opponent.

"Good. I have a list here. They're all strong, and beating them makes for good headlines," Milia handed him a prepared file. "Of course, if you have a specific target in mind, we'll do it your way."

Ronin took the file, noticing the commotion coming from the stands outside the tunnel.

"Let's go to the restaurant first," Ronin ignored the noise. Whatever it was, it didn't matter.

However, just as he stepped out of the lounge, a staff member handed him a letter.

The waiter said a blonde teenager asked him to deliver it.

Ronin looked around but saw no familiar faces. His mind immediately went to one specific blonde teenager.

Kurapika.

Did he find me?

With that thought, he examined the envelope carefully before opening it with Milia by his side.

The message was simple.

"I will throw you off Heaven's Arena so you can experience the same freefall I did. Hope you don't die!

—The man who crushed your father's skull."

Ronin's pupils constricted slightly.

Obviously, Uvogin wrote this letter. But the one who handed it to the waiter wasn't Uvogin—it was Shalnark, the Spider with blonde hair.

"They're finally here," Ronin felt some pressure, but not much.

Instead, excitement bubbled up from the bottom of his heart.

Perhaps he was born for battle. Just like when he first transmigrated and dared to challenge Uvogin, now that he had some strength, he looked forward to fighting opponents who were his equal or stronger.

Uvogin was the perfect opponent.

But fighting Uvogin meant he couldn't hold back like he did with Sidney. He would have to use Ninjutsu.

Yet, he didn't want to expose his Ninjutsu to the public. So the best solution was...

Ronin looked seriously at Milia.

Milia didn't understand his meaning at first, but she noticed the expectation in his eyes.

"What is it?" She wanted to push up her glasses, but realizing Ronin was staring at her, she quietly hid her hands behind her back.

"The Phantom Troupe is here," Ronin said, putting away the letter and walking toward the elevator. "I need power. It's time for you to tell me what your ability is. You've been waiting for this too, haven't you?"

Watching Ronin turn around, Milia pushed her glasses up, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.

The smile on her usually cold face was surprisingly stunning, catching Ronin's eye as he glanced back.

"I'll tell you the details over dinner," Milia said, not rushing.

...

Hidden in the crowd, Shalnark watched the two leave. He didn't sense nervousness from Ronin, only calmness.

Uvogin's evaluation of Ronin was proving accurate—this kid was truly arrogant.

"Well? Did you give him the letter?" Uvogin appeared behind Shalnark. Ronin and Milia had already entered the elevator.

"I did," Shalnark nodded.

"And? And? Was he scared?" Uvogin asked expectantly.

He had spent a long time composing that threat during the match, hoping to see fear or anger from Ronin.

Ideally, Ronin would get so angry his eyes would turn red, exposing his identity as a Kurta. That would be perfect.

Shalnark shook his head. "You're going to be disappointed. He was very calm. Before getting into the elevator, he casually lit the letter on fire and tossed it in the trash."

Shalnark pointed to a smoking trash can near the elevator. Security guards were running toward it.

"That uncivilized brat!" Uvogin punched the stone pillar beside him, leaving a deep fist imprint.

"Let's just go to his face and warn him. Or I can just chop him up," Nobunaga said, having shaken off the security guards. He glared at Uvogin unhappily. The guy was a powder keg, exploding at the slightest touch.

"You want to fight again?" Uvogin looked at him unkindly.

"You think I'm scared of you?"

Shalnark facepalmed.

...

At the same time, on the first-floor arena.

"Kurapika, you may proceed directly to the 50th floor."

After Kurapika defeated his opponent in one move, the referee gave his verdict.

Kurapika nodded and walked off the stage, leaving behind the unconscious burly man.
