Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Davin's heart softened a little when he heard Alma's sweet voice.

"Of course I'm here," Davin replied, his voice sounding louder than he intended. "Why did you let yourself get into this state, and why didn't you tell me you were sick? Earlier, you were so brave, wanting to kill yourself?" There was anger in his question, anger at Alma, anger at himself, anger at the circumstances and situation that were complicating their relationship.

Alma turned her face away, tears welling up in her eyes. "I don't know, Davin. I just... feel tired and hurt. You know what I mean."

Tired. That word struck Davin. Tired because of his actions? Tired because of this loveless marriage? The guilt he had managed to bury deep inside him all this time now rose to the surface, mixed with jealousy that was beginning to burn.

"Tired?" Davin snorted, but there was a tremor in his voice. "You think I'm not tired? Seeing you like this..." Davin stopped talking, unable to continue. What was he going to say? That he was worried? That he cared? That would ruin his entire plan for revenge.

Alma looked at him again, this time with a sharper gaze, though still weak. "So, what do you want, Davin? Isn't this what you wanted? Now I'm sick and suffering?"

"In fact, my father is undergoing surgery, and the risks are quite high."

Alma's words were like a dagger piercing Davin's heart. Yes, that was what he wanted. But why did it hurt so much to see it come true? Why did the jealousy feel so real, so burning, when he saw Dr. Bryan touch Alma, even if it was just to insert an IV? It was truly unreasonable jealousy.

"I..." Davin took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm in his chest. "I just don't want to see you like this."

"After all, you are my wife, so don't ever get close to any man. Or I will do something even worse to any man who dares to touch you!"

Alma glanced at him cynically and coldly, amused by Davin's words.

"Wife, on paper, you mean?" Alma hissed softly. She began to feel anxious about Bryan, because she knew Davin was a possessive man.

The dizziness in her head began to subside a little, and she felt she had a little energy to argue with her husband.

Davin realized his own words just now, a lie, or perhaps, a new truth that was beginning to grow.

Alma's tears finally fell, wetting her pale cheeks. "Don't lie, Davin. I know what you really mean, you only care about your ego!"

Davin clenched his hands tightly, resisting the urge to reach for Alma's fingers, which were attached to an IV. "I'm not lying," he whispered, his voice hoarse. "I... I just don't know what I'm feeling."

Under the dim light of the emergency room, amid the beeping of monitors and the drip of IV fluids, Davin felt his world crumbling. His plan for revenge now felt hollow, replaced by an emotional turmoil he had never experienced before. He wanted to hurt Alma, but why did his heart ache when he saw her hurt? And why, among all that, was Dr. Bryan's face constantly haunting him, clearly showing Bryan's interest in his wife, sparking an irrational jealousy?

But once again, Davin's ego reared its head when the image of Vanya's sad face appeared in his mind, reigniting his desire for revenge.

As Davin was caught in the middle of his emotional dilemma, he heard Sofia's soft voice calling his name.

"Davin, where are you, Davin?"

Davin snapped out of his reverie and saw the curtains being opened by Sofia, his lover.

Sofia was wearing an elegant peach-colored long dress, expensive diamond earrings dangling from both ears, her hair flowing long. But her eyes were sharp and sparkling as she saw Davin with Alma.

"So you're here, Davin. I've been looking for you," Sofia whined spoiledly, her arms immediately wrapping around Davin's strong hands. A smile spread across Sofia's face, but the sensitive Davin immediately knew that Sofia was actually angry to find him talking to Alma.

"Sofia, I didn't mean to see her here. Don't worry, I just wanted to know what happened to her," Davin replied flatly.

Davin's face, which had looked troubled, was now flat and cold again, and he didn't even glance at Alma.

"How did your checkup go, honey?"

Davin rubbed Sofia's stomach and seemed very attentive to his lover.

All of Davin's words and actions toward Sofia did not escape Alma's attention, and her heart was instantly torn apart.

Meanwhile, Sofia smiled triumphantly and looked at Alma with contempt.

In the emergency room, where the temperature was quite cold, Sofia stood beside Davin, while Alma lay weakly on the treatment bed.

Sofia felt very happy. Davin treated her affectionately, even in front of his own wife who was sick. Sofia felt she had control over the situation.

Sofia then spoke in a worried tone, "I'm still waiting for the results of the blood test regarding the condition of my uterus, let's wait together there, dear."

Then Sofia grimaced softly while holding her stomach, as if she were the one suffering the most here. Of course, Davin looked at her with great concern.

Davin was about to speak when his cell phone rang. He thought it was an important work call that only he needed to know about.

"I'll answer the phone first," Davin said softly to Sofia.

"Of course, take your time for important matters. No need to deal with useless things," Sofia nodded, glancing cynically at Alma.

Davin took the call and left the emergency room for a moment.

Alma glanced at Sofia, feeling like she wanted to respond to Sofia's words that had belittled her earlier. Alma felt hurt because Sofia considered her useless.

But the intense headache returned.

Meanwhile, Sofia approached the edge of the bed where Alma was lying.

Her eyes were sharp and flashed with anger as Sofia began to pull Alma's hair forcefully.

"You damn bitch, you think marrying David will give you control over him? You know very well that he doesn't really love you!"

Alma was shocked by Sofia's sudden attack and immediately whimpered in pain. Sofia pulled her hair so hard that it felt like her scalp was being torn off.

"Ouch... that hurts!"

"I don't mean to control Davin, please let go, it hurts so much," Alma begged.

Her head had been dizzy since earlier, and now it was even worse because Sofia was pulling her hair.

"Then remember, this is a warning from me. Don't you ever try to seduce Davin again, or you'll know the consequences!"

Sofia grinned coldly, she had a certain plan in mind.

"Now I'll bet on who Davin will save first if both of us are injured?"

Sofia released her grip on Alma's hair, but then...

Sofia took advantage of this opportunity to carry out her plan. Quickly, she pushed Alma off the bed, causing her IV to come loose, and the needle mark on Alma's arm began to bleed.

Alma immediately cried out in pain.

"Ouch... it hurts!"

Sofia shouted for Davin.

"DAVIN!"

Then, without hesitation, Sofia hurt herself. She scratched her arm with a syringe until it bled, then she threw herself on the floor and lay there weak and helpless.

Sofia screamed hysterically, her screams were very loud.

"Aaa! Davin! Help! Alma pushed me! I don't know why she's so angry at me!"

Davin, who had just finished his phone call, heard Sofia's voice.

Davin ran inside, panicking at the sight of Sofia bleeding and lying on the floor, then looked at Alma, who was also lying on the floor.

Davin seemed about to approach Alma, but then, with steady steps, the handsome man hurried toward Sofia.

Sofia looked at Alma with a triumphant gaze.

Davin was now beside Sofia, his strong arms wrapped around his girlfriend's waist.

"Sofia! Oh my God, what happened to you? What happened here?"

Then Davin suddenly turned to Alma, who was also lying weakly on the floor.

"Alma, what the hell is this!?"

Alma could only freeze in silence, realizing that Davin had chosen to approach Sofia instead of her. This made her immediately lose all feeling for Davin.

Sofia held her arm, trying to look like she was in pain.

"I... I just said, let's wait for the test results together. Suddenly he got angry and pushed me like this."

Sofia showed the wound on her arm, and Davin looked at it with a mix of concern and confusion.

He grabbed Sofia's arm and cleaned the blood with a small handkerchief he took from his pocket.

Davin looked at Alma and said coldly, "Alma, can you explain what really happened? Why is Sofia injured?"

"Alma! What have you done? Why did you hurt Sofia? She didn't do anything wrong!"

Davin confronted and accused Alma of something she didn't do.

"Oh, right, I forgot you have a sister who's also cruel. Your nature must have come from her!"

Davin's words were like a sharp knife piercing Alma's heart.
