Billy was stunned when he read the message from his boss, Davin. He replied quickly.
[Okay, boss. So, what should we do with him?]
Billy asked this because he knew that the man Davin wanted to investigate must have had problems with his boss. Usually, men with problems like that didn't last long.
Davin: [Just investigate his background and how Alma's relationship with him seems so close?]
Billy: [Yes, Mr. Davin]
Billy frowned. He clearly knew about the complicated relationship between his boss, Mrs. Alma, and Sofia. He even knew that Davin was very resentful and wanted to hurt Alma.
"Does Mr. Davin feel that the doctor is a romantic rival?"
Billy furrowed his brow as he talked to himself, thinking about several possibilities.
Alma was now in a fairly luxurious hospital room. Bryan had provided the room for Alma. Apparently, Alma's fever had not subsided even though she had been given antibiotics. Due to the effects of the medication, the beautiful woman was now fast asleep. Even so, Alma's eyelids twitched and her head moved slightly from side to side. Sometimes a slight smile appeared on her small lips.
Alma dreamed that she was with Davin, and her heart felt happy.
Under the soft evening sky, Alma and Davin walked side by side in the flower garden. The scent of roses and jasmine mixed together, creating an intoxicating romantic atmosphere. Davin, with a loving gaze, held Alma's hand tightly. They were a couple intoxicated with love, as if the world belonged only to them. Alma's cheerful laughter echoed among the rustling leaves, while Davin gazed at her admiringly.
Davin's strong arm picked a red rose, which he gave to his beloved. "For you, Alma. As beautiful as you are."
Alma accepted the flower with a sweet smile on her red lips.
"Thank you, Davin. You always know how to make me happy."
"You never forget that red roses are my favorite flowers," Alma whispered affectionately.
Davin smiled, his fingers smoothing the strands of hair that covered Alma's beautiful face.
"Of course I'll always remember. Your happiness is my priority, Alma. I want to always be with you, forever."
Then Alma rested her head on Davin's shoulder.
"Me too, Davin. I can't imagine my life without you."
The steps of the very affectionate couple stopped in front of a dancing fountain. "Look, Alma. The fountain is like our love, always moving and never stopping."
Alma nodded in agreement, "It's beautiful. Like a dream."
"A dream that we will make come true together, Alma. I promise to always protect you, love you, and make you happy."
Alma looked into Davin's eyes with love, "I believe in you, Davin. I love you."
Davin leaned forward and gently kissed Alma's forehead, "I love you more, Alma."
Slowly, Davin gave a light kiss on Alma's full lips. Both of them were lost in the moment. Then they both fell silent for a moment, enjoying the beauty of the garden and the warmth of love that enveloped them. However, suddenly, the garden began to fade, the flowers wilted, and Davin disappeared. Alma woke up with tears streaming down her cheeks, realizing that it was all just a dream.
"Oh God, my heart hurts so much, everything has changed, Davin no longer loves me."
Alma sobbed softly, even now remembering her mother who had passed away long ago.
At that moment, the nurse came to check the IV fluid and also measure Alma's body temperature.
"Miss, don't think too much, and try to sleep so you can recover quickly. Your fever is still high; it seems we need to do another blood test."
Alma could only nod slowly, but then she remembered her father who was undergoing surgery. She wanted to know how he was doing now.
"Nurse, could you please check on a patient named Mr. Ricky? He had heart surgery today. I'm his daughter."
The nurse looked at Alma's pale and sad face, then nodded in agreement.
"I'll find out and let you know as soon as possible."
"Thank you."
After a ten-minute pause, the nurse returned and said to Alma with a gloomy face.
"I'm sorry to bring you bad news, Miss Alma."
Alma, who was staring at the nurse's complicated face, could at least guess what had happened to her father.
"My father, is he...?"
"Mr. Riky's surgery was successful, but he h
as not regained consciousness yet."
Alma was stunned and felt very sad.
After hearing the information from the nurse, Alma wanted to see her father in the intensive care unit immediately.
"Nurse, please help me. I want to see my father in the room where he is being treated now," Alma pleaded hopefully.
The nurse frowned. Alma should not get up and move around too much. Dr. Bryan had said that the patient named 'Alma Miller' must rest completely in bed.
"But Miss Alma, you are not allowed to get out of bed while you still have a fever like this."
"Nurse, please. I just want to see my father."
Alma was impatient to see her father, even though she was still dizzy, she tried to get up.
"Wait, miss, don't!"
The nurse looked panicked and tried to stop Alma. But then the door opened and Bryan entered.
"Alma, what are you doing?!"
Bryan was startled to see Alma crying and trying to get out of bed.
"I want to see my father. He just had surgery and hasn't regained consciousness yet."
After arguing for a few minutes, Bryan finally allowed Alma to get out of bed. Dr. Bryan himself took Alma to the intensive care unit. Alma was in a wheelchair, while Bryan pushed her from behind.
Before Alma entered the room, Bryan gave her some advice.
"Alma, you can only talk to your father. Even though he is unconscious, his subconscious memory can hear everything you say."
"Just talk about happy and optimistic things. I will pray that your father recovers quickly."
Now Alma was at her father's bedside, staring sadly at Riky, her father, who looked very pitiful.
The pain pierced Alma's heart, more painful than a cut. Her father lay helplessly in a hospital bed, in a coma. The medical equipment made a monotonous sound, the only companion in the silence of the night. Alma's tears fell, wetting her hands as she clutched her father's fingers tightly. In the midst of her deep sorrow, memories of Irvan, her brother, suddenly came flooding back. It had been years since they had last spoken. Irvan used to be her brother, her protector, and her friend, the one Alma turned to for support. However, everything changed since Davin's hatred towards him. Davin, her husband, always accused Irvan of being responsible for the tragic death of his sister. An accusation that Alma still wanted to prove true. Alma missed his presence. At times like this, she really wished her brother was by her side, giving her strength and comfort. But is that even possible? The wounds of the past are too deep, and prejudice has taken root. Alma can only hold on to her longing and hope for a miracle to heal her father and reunite her long-broken family.
"Dad, please wake up so we can talk like we used to. I miss your advice."
Alma then gently rubbed her father's hand, "Father, it's Alma. You remember our promise, right? We'll go fishing at the lake again like we used to. You have to wake up, okay? I know you're strong. I'm here, Father."
After feeling she had said enough, Alma decided to leave the room. Her own body felt weak. Upon reflection, she realized she hadn't eaten anything since earlier.
Outside the room, Bryan quickly approached Alma and pushed her wheelchair. The two of them walked down the brightly lit hospital corridor.
Bryan looked intently at her and smiled softly.
"Are you done? Have you seen enough of your father?"
Alma smiled and nodded slowly, "There's nothing else I can do in there, only a miracle can heal my father."
"Calm down, I'm sure your father will wake up soon," Bryan replied optimistically and unconsciously patted Alma's shoulder gently.
Meanwhile, on the street in front of them, there were three people walking together, all of them looking familiar. But as they got closer, Alma could see that they were Davin, Sofia, and a little girl about three years old.
The cute child called out to Sofia as they passed a shop selling food.
"Mom... Mom, I want to buy ice cream there."
The child's tiny fingers also pulled Davin's arm and said.
"Dad, let's go there."
The child pulled one of Davin's arms and one of Sofia's arms.
But Davin caught sight of Alma with Bryan. His gaze was cold and piercing.
Meanwhile, Alma assumed that Davin and Sofia's relationship had progressed so far that they had a little girl.
Davin, who saw Alma with Bryan, looked angry, his handsome gaze fixed sharply on Alma. But he didn't approach his wife. After the child called Davin again for the second time, Davin finally shifted his gaze away from Alma.
"Dad, let's buy ice cream first."
"Alright, let's go," Davin followed the child's tiny footsteps, with Sofia behind him.
Sofia shot Alma a sarcastic glance but said nothing.
While Alma felt her heart breaking, various prejudices arose in her mind. She muttered softly, after taking a deep breath.
"Are you now open about your relationship? Do you really not consider me to exist anymore?"
"It turns out that I really don't know you, Davin. All this time, I thought you had made me the center of your world, but it turns out I was wrong."
"Would it be better if I gave up on you and asked for a divorce?"
Tears welled up in Alma's eyes, while Bryan could hear Alma's words even though she spoke very softly.
"Alma, are you okay?"
"What exactly is your relationship with them?"
Bryan asked sincerely. Actually, Bryan had just returned from abroad, so he didn't know the latest domestic news. Besides, Bryan was a quiet person who didn't like crowds.
"That man is my husband," Alma replied briefly.
Bryan was stunned by Alma's answer.
A husband... What kind of husband abandons his sick wife and is with another woman instead? And he did it so openly.
Bryan felt sorry for Alma when he saw her sad face, so he didn't dare to ask any more questions. The man calmly pushed the wheelchair to the hospital room.
"Alma, listen to me, your illness requires complete rest, otherwise you will continue to be weak and dizzy. Above all, don't worry too much, it can affect your recovery process."
"To be honest, I'm a little worried because your fever is unusual, I think I should do a thorough examination of you tomorrow morning."
Bryan gently gave her important medical advice. Bryan was a smart doctor; he had earned high marks while studying abroad. His family in this city was also quite well-respected and wealthy. In short, he was the kind of bachelor that single women dreamed of.
Alma nodded slightly, feeling a little embarrassed by Bryan's attention. She remembered that Bryan used to be a quiet and shy boy, but now he was different, more mature and authoritative.
"Okay, Dr. Bryan, I'll do as you say," Alma replied jokingly. A small smile appeared on Alma's lips.
Seeing that Alma was no longer so sad, Bryan felt a little relieved. Then he helped Alma lie down on the bed. After giving instructions on how to take her medicine, he asked the nurse to bring her some porridge and warm water.
"After you eat, don't forget to take your medicine and then rest."
Alma could only nod without arguing, her body feeling very weak. The fever and dizziness made her uncomfortable. How could she not be depressed? Her husband had left her on their wedding night, Davin had married her only to get revenge, and her father was in a coma. And finally, Irvan, her own brother, was accused of murdering Davin's sister. All of these things almost made Alma despair.
Meanwhile, Bryan entered his office, taking off the white doctor's coat that had been clinging to his tall frame, hanging it on a coat rack.
Bryan sat down in a large, expensive leather chair, turned on his computer screen, and began searching for information about Alma Miller.
Bryan had just returned from abroad, so he was unaware of the latest domestic news.
After typing Alma Miller's name, Bryan was stunned to read an article reviewed by one of the leading online medical platforms, which revealed that Alma had indeed married Davin Vargas.
News of their grand and luxurious wedding spread across various online platforms.
"So it's true that Alma has married that man, but... why does Alma look unhappy and I see her husband with another woman, and there was even a small child with them, is that their child?"
Bryan paused for a moment, feeling confused and trying to make assumptions about the romantic relationship between Alma and Davin.
Bryan thought Alma was the one who was disadvantaged in her marriage. But he planned to ask Alma about it later.
Bryan then decided to go home and was now in his luxury car, a latest model Audi.
Bryan drove slowly out of the hospital parking lot, but unbeknownst to Bryan, a
black SUV was steadily following his sedan from behind.
