Chapter 25 - Chapter 24: A Sudden Accident

Gently shattered…

Bah!

The moment the stone, placed in a transparent control box, was shattered, a strange light, imperceptible to the naked eye of an ordinary person but visible to Hawk, burst forth from the stone.

And at this moment, his Little Universe pulsed.

Clearly.

His Little Universe was telling him one thing.

gamma nium—

He found it.

After absorbing the message transmitted by the Little Universe, Hawk also understood what gamma nium was, and at the same time, he smiled wryly.

The reason was simple.

gamma nium, to put it plainly, was gamma rays that, for an unknown reason, transformed from being fundamentally un-storable into storable gamma rays.

This…

This was gamma nium.

Hmm.

It sounded absurd.

But these were no longer important; what was important was that Hawk now knew where to find the gamma nium he needed.

Quantico!

Bruce Banner's laboratory where the gamma ray explosion occurred.

After leading Hawk in, Gwen, who was temporarily acting as a guide, looked at Hawk, whose eyes were fixed on the shattered stone, and subconsciously nudged him with her elbow.

Hawk snapped back to reality and looked at Gwen.

His eyes were clear…

"Hmm?"

"What are you thinking?"

Gwen frowned, "You don't really want to become a monster like Abomination, do you?"

She thought of Hawk's captivated gaze just now and had a feeling that Hawk didn't intend to be human anymore.

Hawk temporarily suppressed the thought of rushing to Quantico right now and shook his head, "How could that be? I was just wondering if Dr. Connors's experiment is about to succeed."

Gwen was about to speak.

Just then.

Dr. Connors, who had just walked over after seeing Gwen bring someone in, heard this and interjected, "Scientific research is a path of continuous trial and error, but indeed, I feel we are already on the path to success."

Gwen turned to greet Dr. Connors as he approached.

"Dr."

"Curtis, Curtis Connors."

Dr. Connors, also wearing a White coat but missing an arm, smiled and extended his single left hand to Hawk, "You are…"

Hawk looked at Dr. Connors's outstretched left hand and smiled, extending his own left hand, "Hawk, Gwen's classmate, currently a summer intern in the Bioelectric Engineering Department. Oh, I came with Mr. Dillon, and I asked Gwen if she could show me around. I apologize for disturbing you, Dr."

Dr. Connors laughed heartily, "I just heard your conversation with Gwen. Do you really think my experiment can succeed?"

Hawk smiled and said, "I've read Dr.'s papers. It's clear that if Dr.'s experiment succeeds, it will definitely benefit humanity."

This was not flattery, but a fact.

As long as Dr. Connors's regeneration experiment could succeed, then the entire World would no longer have disabled people.

Of course, this referred to people with physical disabilities.

That's why Hawk said "benefit humanity" and not "benefit all humanity."

However, all of this was predicated on Dr. Connors actually being able to produce the regenerative serum, and not concocting the Lizard serum that could turn one into a Lizard.

But…

This was largely unlikely.

The main reason Dr. Connors became Lizard Dr. was due to the warning from Spider-Man.

Although the Dr. Connors in front of him looked like Dr. Connors from the Amazing Spider-Man movie, there was no Spider-Man here.

There was a Spider-Woman here, though.

But she was currently working a summer job at the Daily Bugle, so it was unlikely she would appear here.

So…

The probability of Dr. Connors here becoming Lizard Dr. was truly not as high as the probability of Max Dillon, who was repairing outside, becoming Electro next year.

However, Hawk's words were watertight.

He didn't say whether he believed it or not, only that Dr. Connors's experiment, if successful, could benefit humanity.

Dr. Connors was very pleased by this and laughed heartily, but he didn't say anything more. However, as he left, he said to Gwen, "Gwen, you can introduce our current progress to your classmate."

It was rare for someone to affirm his experiment, and Gwen didn't actually participate in any core technology, and the progress was public, so there was no issue of leaking secrets or anything.

Gwen responded and, after Dr. Connors left, stood side-by-side with Hawk again, whispering, "Do you really think Dr. Connors's experiment can succeed?"

Hawk was watching the experimental staff member who had shattered the gamma stone walk over to the centrifuge nearby. Hearing this, he looked at Gwen beside him.

Just as he was about to shake his head and say he didn't believe it, he seemed to sense something and looked up at the light bulb above his head.

The light bulb on the laboratory ceiling flickered rapidly.

The next moment.

With a bang.

Accompanying the burst of the light bulb, all the lights in the entire laboratory suddenly went out.

"Dong!"

"Oh no…"

"Pfft!"

Accompanied by the sound of an explosion and urgent exclamations from the instant darkness, Hawk instantly felt a sense of oppression heading towards…

Gwen!

Hawk didn't have time to think, almost instinctively extending his right hand to block in front of Gwen.

"Pfft!"

"…"

Hawk felt the pain in his palm and frowned. At the same time, the laboratory's emergency lights quickly came online after the lights went out.

The red emergency lights made the cold laboratory look somewhat frightening.

Especially when everyone saw a body lying in a pool of blood.

A female experimental staff member was clutching her profusely bleeding neck, lying on the ground by the broken centrifuge. Blood oozed through the gaps in her fingers, constantly bubbling out.

Several White mice scurried around on the floor.

"Holy shit!"

"Mia?"

"Jesus Christ."

"Mia!"

Under the red emergency lights, everyone's faces changed drastically at this sight. Some ran out of the laboratory to call for help, while others rushed towards the fallen body.

Gwen's gaze fell on Hawk, who had already withdrawn his right hand and placed it behind his back.

Her eyes flickered as she turned sideways to face Hawk.

"Hand out."

"What?"

Hawk was slightly startled.

Gwen didn't speak; she simply reached out, grabbed Hawk's arm, pulled his right hand out from behind him, and then spread it open.

What she saw.

Hawk's right palm was completely unharmed, except for a mark on the palm that looked exactly like newly grown skin.

Gwen was stunned.

Hawk smiled and withdrew his right hand, "My hand isn't as pretty as yours."

Gwen frowned and said nothing.

Just then, Osborn's medical personnel and security ran in from outside and began to clear the area.

Hawk took advantage of the chaos in the laboratory and, with a somewhat dazed Max, left early.

Gwen stood outside the laboratory, still frowning.

She was certain she hadn't been mistaken just now.

Just a moment ago, the instant the lights dimmed, she also distinctly felt a surge of air pressure coming towards her. However, this pressure came and went quickly, but she saw it clearly: the moment the pressure disappeared, a few drops of blood fell within her sight.

But Hawk's palm was clearly fine.

Wait a minute.

Gwen seemed to realize something, her eyes lit up, and she walked to the laboratory door, looking at where she had just been standing.

On the ground…

On the White floor, a few drops of blood were clearly visible!

A White mouse with a broken tail ran over there and, after sniffing, seemed to brighten up and began to lap up these few drops of blood with its tongue.

Shit!

Gwen snapped back to reality and quickly ran inside.
