Chapter 20 - Chapter 19: Spider-Man Talks A Lot, But Spider-Woman Doesn't

Soon.

After they finished talking, the three rose from the sofa, said goodbye to Mrs. Snow, and then walked out of Mrs. Snow's office.

Gwen looked at Hawk.

"Do you need me to take you to the Bio-Electric Department then?"

"No need, I'll go by myself."

Hawk said, and without stopping, he slung his bag over his shoulder and walked out of the office building.

He didn't have much time left.

Afternoon classes were about to begin, and he needed to shower at the gym first.

Peter, who had walked out of Mrs. Snow's office with the two, watched Hawk's departing back.

Hmm.

He was staring intently.

Gwen, who had been observing in secret, suddenly spoke.

"Peter!"

"…Ah!"

Peter looked at Gwen, who had called him, his eyes somewhat dazed, his pupils quickly focusing, and then he came to his senses: "Gwen?"

Gwen smiled slightly: "Nothing, by the way, are you attending this year's grade dance?"

Peter smiled awkwardly: "Sorry, I probably can't make it."

If Hawk wasn't attending the dance because he had no money and no female companion, then Peter was simply not attending because he had no female companion.

But the reason Hawk had no female companion was because he was too lazy to find one.

If he wanted to, with his looks, physique, and the temperament honed by years of boxing, it would be very easy for him to find a female classmate willing to be his companion.

Peter, on the other hand, simply couldn't find a female companion.

To be precise, why did Peter have to hang himself on one tree, Mary Jane?

Mary Jane, Peter's neighbor, was also an eleventh-grade student.

Perhaps Peter thought no one knew about his crush on Mary Jane, but in reality, most people already knew.

After all, everyone wasn't blind. In this situation, no girl would agree to Peter making herself a substitute for Mary Jane.

And the real Mary Jane would not accept Peter's dance invitation.

Peter also didn't want to go to the dance alone and watch his dream girl dance with other men.

Gwen was not surprised by Peter's answer either.

Because she was friends with Mary Jane, and when the grade dance was first confirmed, Mary Jane found her and submitted her and her male companion's names.

Harry Osborn.

Hmm.

It perfectly fit Mary Jane's long-standing boyfriend standard.

Gwen thought to herself, but didn't say much. After getting Peter's answer, she nodded and turned to leave.

However…

After Gwen turned to leave, she seemed to think of something and instinctively turned her head, glancing back.

Peter was still standing in place, staring somewhat intently in the direction Hawk had just left.

A few days later.

Cheers suddenly erupted from Midtown High School.

Vacation! Vacation! The summer vacation, most beloved by students, had finally arrived.

"L, have you planned your summer vacation itinerary?"

"Yep, Hawaii it is."

"Tom and I are planning to go to Slovakia."

"Hiss, Slovakia, haven't you seen the news?"

"What?"

"Didn't they say last week that a tourist went missing in Slovakia?"

"Fake news. Besides, Tom and I are so strong, what could happen?"

With the arrival of the holiday, students walked in twos and threes towards the parking lot, chatting and planning their respective vacations.

Vehicles started one after another, and in no time, the entire Midtown High School seemed to suddenly become deserted.

The noisy sounds that had filled every corner of the school also disappeared.

Only the rhythmic thudding from the old gymnasium continued to resound.

About ten minutes later.

The thudding stopped.

Hawk stood in place, adjusting his breathing while looking down and unwrapping the bandages from his hands.

Although his bare hands wouldn't even turn red striking steel plates now, the habit of over a thousand consecutive days had formed, so he still habitually wrapped bandages around his hands when boxing.

Just as Hawk was removing the wrapped bandages, his sword-like brows raised.

The next second.

A voice came from behind.

"This gym is said to be turned into a swimming pool next semester."

"…Peter."

Hawk turned around and looked at Peter, who stood not far away with a face resembling Maguire: "It's not 'said to be', it's true."

Peter smiled and didn't speak.

This was another reason why Hawk liked the original Spider-Woman.

Compared to the slightly verbose nature of the Amazing Spider-Man and the extremely verbose nature of the Hollander Tech Spider-Man, he still preferred the introverted nature of the original Spider-Woman.

Just like him.

Talent introverted.

Not good with words.

Hawk thought, then tucked the wrapped bandages back into his pocket, and then looked at Peter: "You didn't come here today just to tell me this gym is being converted into a swimming pool, did you?"

Peter quickly shook his head: "No."

"Then what is it?"

"Uh…"

Peter was about to speak, but the words caught in his throat, and he looked at Hawk, hesitating.

Hawk smiled.

He looked at Peter, who was hesitating to speak, and didn't say anything. Instead, he walked towards his backpack, slung his shoulder bag on, and then walked outside.

"Happy summer vacation, Peter."

"Screech!"

Hawk, who was almost at the door, heard a sound like a spider spinning silk from beside him. As he turned, his right fist had already shot out.

Peter, who had shot out a web from not far away, had his Spider-Sense activate and instinctively dodged to the side.

The next second.

"Bang!"

A rest bench in the old gymnasium suddenly split in half.

Peter's eyes widened involuntarily as he looked at the shattered bench.

Hawk, meanwhile, plucked the web adhering to his shoulder bag.

It was very sticky.

He shook it a few times before finally flinging the web away.

Peter had now recovered and looked back at Hawk.

"Hawk, you too…"

"I'm not."

Hawk looked up and directly interrupted Peter's words.

He had achieved his current strength through his unyielding struggle and effort, day in and day out.

Of course.

In all of this, the cheat perhaps played a small role.

But not much.

Hawk firmly believed that even without the cheat, he would still be able to awaken his Little Universe.

Yes.

Anyway, the cheat had already left and had no say, so his statement was flawless.

But this was not the real reason he interrupted Peter's speech.

Hawk gave Peter a look.

Peter, who had Spider-Sense, understood instantly.

Hawk smiled slightly.

"Happy summer vacation, Peter, see you next semester."

"…Okay, see you next semester."

Peter swallowed the words he had originally intended to say this time, responding.

Hawk said nothing more, turned, and walked out of the gymnasium.

Then…

He looked at Gwen outside the door, a hint of surprise flashing across his face: "Gwen?"

Gwen: "…"
