Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Wood-Element Healer Awakens—Childhood Promise Haunts Elara!

What if a doctor became a healing Superpower user?

What if Kael's childhood "wife" promise wasn't just a game?

Damn, the Apocalypse is stirring up old debts.

Father Voss froze.

Then smiled faintly, memories surfacing.

"Do you remember that autumn when Kael was eight?

We took him to the orphanage."

"He ran straight for the swing the second we walked in.

Caught Elara—she was only three."

"Elara's name?

Kael gave it to her," he recalled clearly.

Mother Voss's eyes softened with nostalgia.

"Yes! He held the crying Elara tight."

"Refused to let go.

Begged us to take her home as his wife~"

"We thought it was just kid's play.

Never imagined… he really meant it," she chuckled.

"Maybe we should tell Elara about her origins.

Otherwise, she'll never accept Kael."

"Why does she hate him so much?

Did she really forget everything from childhood?"

Father Voss sighed.

Feeling sentimental.

Elara watched the emerald Beast Core.

It turned into a green light.

Drifted into Silas's mouth.

She grabbed a bowl of honey.

Fed him a few spoonfuls.

Then tore open his shirt.

Diluted some honey with water.

Applied it to his chest, ribs, arms.

Her heart raced.

Staring at him, waiting for a change.

Time dragged on.

Just as Elara's hope faded.

A faint green glow seeped through Silas's skin.

Wriggled beneath the surface like a living thing.

Then vanished.

Elara exhaled, relieved.

She moved to Piper.

Applied diluted honey to her broken bones and wounds.

Fed her a small amount too.

She didn't dare overdo it.

Their injuries were obvious.

Sudden recovery would bring trouble, not blessings.

Stepping out of the car.

Elara spotted Jaxon.

He leaned against the hood.

Holding a sword in one hand, Silas's Tang Dao in the other.

Looking lazy and carefree.

Elias stood nearby.

Chopping a scrap of metal with the knife Elara gave him.

It was a car part.

Already split into pieces.

Six people stood in front of their vehicles.

Smiling obsequiously.

Elias's gaze snapped to Elara the second she appeared.

"They~" he whispered.

"He'll be fine."

"Not sure when he'll wake," Elara replied softly.

"What's going on here?"

"They want to tag along to City X," Jaxon cut in.

His mood lifted at the news about Silas.

His scowl softening.

"Silas and Piper can't handle bumps right now."

"We'll leave in a few days," Elara said.

"If they want to wait, they can stay far away."

"They can come, but they're on their own."

She turned to Elias.

"Help Jaxon get our car back.

I'll make lunch."

Jaxon relayed Elara's words to the group.

After a quick discussion.

A young man named Qian Chuan—nicknamed "Money String"—nodded eagerly.

He rounded up a few strong guys.

To help flip the overturned Land Rover.

One of them was a mechanic.

Who checked the car.

"Just loose parts—tighten them up and it'll be fine," he said.

Jaxon drove the Land Rover back next to the Golden Lion.

Elara had already set up a stove.

Boiling water.

Once it bubbled, she opened several packs of instant noodles.

Dumped in all the seasonings.

Added eggs and sausages.

Jaxon stared at the messy stew.

Raising an eyebrow.

"Elara, you've never cooked before, huh?

Even instant noodles look this bad~"

Elias coughed.

"Edible is good enough," he said.

Jaxon quickly backtracked.

"Right! Rich people in villas never cook."

"You being able to boil noodles is already impressive!"

Elara shot him a cold look.

Jaxon shrank back.

Feeling a chill.

"You cook while Piper's injured," Elara said.

Turning back to the car.

Elias patted Jaxon's shoulder.

Amused.

"Looking forward to your cooking, Master Lu!"

He strolled to the car.

Leaving Jaxon stunned.

That night, Piper woke up.

Her broken bones still felt stiff.

But she was mostly fine.

Jaxon told her how Elara had defeated the Mutated Plant.

Earned the title "Golden-Masked Goddess."

And saved Silas.

Piper's admiration for Elara grew even stronger.

Grateful for saving both her and her brother.

Elara glanced at Jaxon.

Who was trying to curry favor.

"Go remind Qian Chuan to keep watch."

"If there's trouble, I won't warn them."

Jaxon pouted.

Dragging his feet as he left.

Piper stared at his retreating figure.

Confused.

"What's wrong with Jaxon?"

Elias pushed up his glasses.

"Nothing. Just got bold," he said.

Glancing at Elara.

Piper's eyes lit up with realization.

Suppressing a laugh.

Jaxon must have offended Elara.

"You guys rest.

I'll take first watch," Elara said.

Climbing onto the car roof.

Sat cross-legged.

Scanning the area.

Jaxon returned just then.

Two men from the other group stood beside their cars.

Keeping watch.

"Why do we have to send two people when they only sent one?" one grumbled.

"Shh! Keep it down!"

"Haven't you seen their strength?

I don't want to die!"

The other man stepped away.

Rolling his eyes.

Idiot—Jaxon's team had impressed everyone in the Mutated Plant battle.

They were a lucky charm.

No one wanted to anger them.

Elara sent out a string of bubbles to scout.

Drank some honey.

Closed her eyes.

Began cultivating with the Beast Core.

On the second night.

Silas finally woke up.

After being unconscious for over a day.

"How do you feel?

Any changes?" Elara asked.

Her heart racing with a hunch.

If she was right, they'd gained a powerful ally.

Silas looked even gentler than before.

A faint smile on his lips.

He lifted his hand.

A wisp of green light dancing at his fingertips.

"Did I just become a super doctor?"

Elara frowned.

Waving Jaxon over.

Confused, Jaxon leaned down.

Elara flicked her finger.

Slashing the back of his hand quickly.

Jaxon yelped.

Jumping back.

Blood streamed down his hand.

"Elara! I'm sorry!"

"Stop torturing me!

I'll never say your cooking is bad again! Sob!"

Elara shot him a cold look.

Piper covered her mouth.

Giggling.

Elias coughed.

Adjusting his glasses.

"Shut up," Elara snapped.

She grabbed Jaxon's injured hand.

Shoving it toward Silas.

"Try healing it."

Everyone's eyes fixed on the wound.

Silas's green light wrapped around it gently.

To their amazement.

The bleeding stopped.

The cut healed.

Leaving only a faint scar.

"Brother! You're amazing!" Piper cheered.

Starry-eyed.

"Whoa! We've got a healer in the team!"

"No more worrying about injuries!

Hahaha!" Jaxon laughed.

Elias pushed up his glasses.

"Is this a Superpower?"

Elara nodded.

"Wood-element. Its healing ability is second only to water-element."

She turned to Silas.

"Can you control plants?"

Silas shook his head.

"Not yet."

"It might be because your Superpower is still low-level," Elara mused.

"Wood-element attacks rely on plants—communicating with them."

"I'm not sure how to use it exactly.

You'll have to experiment."

Silas nodded.

"I'll master it soon."

"Elara! You're so unfair!

You helped Silas awaken his Superpower, but not us!" Jaxon complained.

Pouting.

Elara stared at him coldly.

"If you're on the brink of death.

I might consider finding another Mutated Plant's Beast Core."

"Whether you awaken or not depends on your luck."

Jaxon rubbed his nose.

"Never mind.

My luck's always terrible."

Piper laughed.

"Elara, thank you for saving both of us!"

Silas said nothing.

His clear eyes looked at Elara.

Warm with gratitude.

"Piper was never in mortal danger."

"As for Silas—it was his fate," Elara said.

"I couldn't guarantee he'd awaken."

She dusted off her clothes.

"Since you're both better, we'll leave at dawn."

"Jaxon, tell Qian Chuan."

"Elias and I can take watch tonight," Elias offered.

"You need rest too."

Elara hesitated.

Then nodded.
