Chapter 28 - Chapter28: Black Fire Awakens—Love or Ashes!

What if the ultimate Superpower was black flames that burn even love?

What if saving him meant letting him burn for you?

Damn, this awakening is a love letter written in fire and blood.

She leaned casually against the car door.

Watching Kael stagger toward her.

Beneath the mask, her expression was unreadable.

Reno frowned.

He'd thought Elara had returned.

But the woman wore a mask—never revealing her identity.

He didn't dare be certain.

"From the Voss family, we only have martyrs—no traitors."

Elara's cold voice slipped from her lips.

"Traitors to the Voss family… die!"

She waved her hand.

"Kill them all! Not one left!"

"Got it!" Jaxon laughed.

Charged into Cyrus's team first, sword in hand.

Piper followed close behind.

Elias pushed up his glasses.

A golden blur of his long sword cut through the air.

In an instant, he stood before Cyrus.

Cyrus paled in terror.

Weaponless, already frightened by the earlier supernatural scene.

He didn't dare fight back.

Turned and ran.

Silas moved calmly.

His Tang Dao flashed—taking a life with each swing and retract.

Even his killing blows were graceful.

"Elara~ Elara~"

Kael finally reached her.

Pulled her into his arms.

Elara stiffened.

Fought the urge to push him away.

Kael's state was clearly abnormal.

Like someone whose Superpower awakening had been forcibly interrupted—mindless.

A bright light flashed across Kael's forehead.

Elara stared.

A flame pattern flickered there—dark red mixed with faint black.

"Is that… Miss Voss?" Zhu Jun whispered.

"Not sure. But… it must be."

"With our boss's personality—only Miss Voss is in his eyes," Reno replied.

Zhu Jun nodded in agreement.

His gaze shifted to Jaxon and the others.

"Are these Miss Voss's friends? Their skills are impressive!"

Reno nodded.

"Extremely impressive. Clearly tempered by life and death."

"No fancy moves—clean, ruthless, fatal strikes!"

"Should we join in?" Zhu Jun frowned.

Cyrus's team of over twenty had dwindled to a handful.

He clicked his tongue—their speed was incredible.

"I don't think we need to," Reno said.

Watching his boss stand quietly beside Elara.

His eyes were still blood-red, but no longer blank.

His gaze on Elara was tender, unreserved.

He sighed softly.

His boss's path of love was destined to be brutal.

Only Cyrus remained—covered in blood, huddled on the ground begging for mercy.

Elara pulled Kael, who clung to her tightly, over to him.

Staring down at the trembling Cyrus.

Her voice cold: "Keep him alive. Let my brother deal with him when he's sober."

She turned to Reno.

"Handle the rest. The Safe Zone was built by my brother—it's his."

"Find someone to manage it for him for now."

Reno's face lit up.

Saluted and nodded: "Yes!"

"Anyone who objects…" Elara led Kael into the hotel.

Her voice icy: "Kill them."

Reno froze.

Staring in disbelief at Elara's group disappearing into the hotel.

His mind went blank for a moment.

"Never knew Miss Voss had such a similar temperament to the boss," Zhu Jun muttered.

Sending men to drag Cyrus over.

"Tie him up tight. Guard him—wait for the boss's order!"

Reno snapped back to his senses.

Regardless, their crisis was over.

The future looked bright.

Elara entered the hotel.

Kael's parents rushed over.

Fussing over her with deep concern.

After comforting them, Elara took the delirious Kael to a room.

Kael sat on the bed.

His gaze followed Elara as she moved around.

Sometimes blank, sometimes warm, sometimes wild, sometimes sharp.

Elara removed her mask.

Took a bowl of honey from her space.

Held it to Kael's lips: "Drink."

Kael looked at the honey, then at Elara.

Suddenly grinned: "Elara feed me~"

Elara's expression turned cold.

Kael shrank back, grabbing her sleeve in fear.

"Elara~ don't be mad~ I'm scared~"

Elara's jaw twitched.

Slamming the bowl down, she rubbed her forehead, pacing the room.

What the hell was happening!

The consequences of an interrupted Superpower awakening were either permanent failure or fatal injury.

She'd never heard of mental regression!

And she had no idea how to cure it.

For now, she had to get Kael to drink the honey.

Hoping the magical substance would help.

Gritting her teeth, she sat beside him.

Grabbed a small spoon, scooped up honey, and held it to his mouth: "Eat."

Kael grinned, obeying immediately.

His eyes filled with joy.

Occasionally, he lowered his lids—hiding the flash of calculation and triumph in his eyes.

After finishing the bowl, Elara stared at him nervously.

At first, Kael held her gaze brightly.

Gradually, she noticed beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

"Does it hurt anywhere?" Elara asked anxiously.

Touching his body gently.

But Kael didn't even frown.

Still smiling, his eyes content.

To be cared for by his beloved—Kael had no regrets.

"Speak up! Are you feeling unwell?"

Elara's face paled as Kael's sweat soaked through his clothes.

"Hot~ so hot~" Kael's brows furrowed.

His clear gaze was instantly replaced by wildness and violence.

"Ah~!" He threw his head back, roaring.

Pushing Elara away, he grabbed the crystal tea table and smashed it to the ground.

Crash! The table shattered into pieces.

Elara stumbled back.

Staring in shock at the possessed Kael.

He went on a rampage—smashing everything in the room.

Even the bed didn't survive.

The sheets turned to ashes the moment he touched them.

Elara caught a glimpse of black flames flickering.

Black! How could it be black!

Elara grabbed Kael's hand in disbelief.

A translucent black flame, an inch long, burned on his palm.

Even with her full Ultimate Gold Superpower resisting.

She could feel its all-consuming heat.

"Elara... step back!"

Kael seemed to regain consciousness the moment she touched him.

Gasping violently, he pushed her away again.

His features twisted in pain, sweat pouring down his face.

"It's... Ultimate Fire Superpower!"

Elara stared blankly as Kael slammed into the wall.

Suppressing his roars.

"Get out! Elara... I'll... hurt you~ ah~!!"

Kael roared, punching the floor.

A huge black hole appeared in the wooden floor—its edges charred.

Elara stood frozen.

Watching Kael struggle through the agony of Superpower awakening.

She knew the process was brutal.

Especially for Ultimate Superpowers—the stronger the power, the more painful and dangerous the awakening.

Great strength always came with a great price.

No pain, no gain.

Ultimate Superpower awakening was already rare.

Kael's had been forcibly interrupted—now continuing.

The pain and danger were multiplied several times over.

If he couldn't endure it.

Kael would burn to ashes by his own Superpower.

His awakening was a choice: win or die.

The thought sent chills down Elara's spine.

Kael must have sensed her arrival—forcibly interrupting his awakening to greet her.

He'd remembered their promise, worried about her safety.

Now, watching him suffer, she was helpless.

Elara bit her lip, tears falling.

If Kael failed to awaken.

If he burned... no, no!

She shook her head frantically.

Watching flames flicker across his body, feeling powerless.

Her own Superpower awakening had been accidental.

She had no experience—especially not with Ultimate Superpowers.

Since the Apocalypse began, this was the first time she'd been at a loss.

"Ah~!"

"Boom! Boom!"

Kael punched the floor and walls repeatedly.

His fists were bloodied, but he felt no pain.

The room was in shambles.

Yet no matter how crazy he got, he only circled around Elara.

The area where she stood remained untouched.

A spark of hope ignited in Elara's heart.

Kael hadn't completely lost his mind.

At the very least, he knew not to hurt her.

There was still a chance.

She took step after step toward him.

Kael backed away in alarm, struggling: "Go... leave! Elara... run!"

Elara stared at the flickering flame pattern between his brows.

Taking a deep breath: "Kael Voss, you're awakening your Superpower."

"Defeat it, and you'll become a powerful Fire Superpower user—able to protect me."

"Will you... protect me... for a lifetime?"

"I will... I want to... protect you... forever!"

Kael's features twisted.

The flame pattern on his forehead flickered rapidly.

He trembled violently, staring at her, nodding frantically: "You're mine... mine... no one can... take you away!"

Elara's heart skipped a beat.

For a moment, she was stunned.

Then she grabbed his burning hand without hesitation.

Her words firm as an oath: "Then fight. Become a Superpower user."

"Otherwise, I'll leave you."

"No... don't... you can't!"

Kael pulled her into his arms abruptly.

"Whoever dares to take you... I'll kill them!"

Boom!

Pale black flames erupted from every part of Kael's body.

"Ah~!!!!!"

Kael screamed hysterically.

Suddenly pushing Elara away.

Whoosh! Kael's hair burst into flames.

"Kael Voss!" Elara screamed, rushing toward him.

"Ah~~~~~~~~!!!!!"

Kael clenched his fists, roaring in agony.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

His clothes caught fire too.

The pale black flames darkened.

In an instant, Kael was engulfed in fire.

Elara felt as if she'd fallen into hell.

"No! Kael Voss!!"
